GWC Podcast #169: Transformers Primer, Part II

So I’ve been doing a little browsing. Does anyone remember this? It was a Toys R’ Us exclusive. Nothing special about it except you got the Constructicons all in one set. I have to say that I did want it because I thought it was cool they put 6 transformers into one box…

thanks !!!

It looks like WALLE really is a representation of Woody Allen.

Just did a google search and found this interview with the director of WallE.

Here’s the key part:

METRO: But I did note a few. Seeing the angle of WALL-E’s binocular eyes and the myopic quality of the gaze, I wondered if you modeled him on Woody Allen, particularly when Allen is posing as a robot in Sleeper.

STANTON: Funny, I definitely picked that scale—I mean, why the robot Eva is that tall and why WALL-E is that short, is because of the size difference between Allen and Diane Keaton in Annie Hall.

Wow Chuck was right. I didn’t pick up on that. I did love the obvious nod to HAL.

I know the all knowing internet wiki might say that it was a toy’s R us exclusive… but it wasn’t. When the Constructicons first came out… I bought that box set at Lionel Play world in 1984 or 85. We didn’t have a toys R us in Chattanooga til 1992. By cousin Chad got the Devestator set ( in a different box - but all in one package) it for christmas from Granny Payne and she bought all christmas toys at the Service Merchandise store.

Just a liitle heads up.

This is interesting. I’m sure out of the Toy stores in my area, TRU was the only one that ever carried this. (The other was KB, really) I wonder if the manufacturer shipped it out where it ought not to have, or the possibility that, in fact the information online is incorrect (impossible!). There’s also the possibility that Lionel bought it retail and marked it up for local sale… hmmm, intrigue!

KB toys was bad about haveing toys that were “KB exclusive” but the package was what was exclusive. Lionel would have the same toy on a different card fairly often.

I really enjoy the podcasts and you are usually spot on about all the content but I disagree with Sean’s representation of Riddick. I feel that he does care about others and puts himself in harms way to save those he feels are innocents. I see this in all of the movies in the series. thanks and possibly consider doing a watch and review of this short series…

Welcome to the forum islanderwi! I agree with you about Riddick…he cared about Kyra in Chronicles.

There are making a sequel to Riddick.

My wife is listening to Primer, pt 2 and is having an “issue” with the part about Spike’s girlfriend. She insists that she’s in “several” episodes of season 2 (introed in ep 3, appears in episode with “Cybertronium”), and that she has a name (Carlee).

She was all but declared holy war on Sean because of this. Beware.

One TF source (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Carly) puts her in no less than 7(!) episodes, including 3-post-86-movie, proving that Daniel’s mom is more present than we think.

Alien is a Horror movie.

isn’t Ripley (in the first Alien movie) just the sterotypical “nerdy, reponsible chick” that survives to the end of EVERY horror movie. She even has the moving slowly while nearly crying and beats the bad guy with a very simple act: ( like pushing a button) scene.

I know that she is a pumped up charater in later movies… but in Alien she is just every plain girl that survives the horror movie.

Also … April O’neal was the main character of the original TMNT Comics. She is the “strait man” of the comic. Every other charaacter in TMNT is a fringe character. She isn’t a hollywood female included character… she is arguably the most importnat character in TMNT comic. She is their ONLY link to the real world.

Also … obviously you can tell that I just got around to listing to the entire podcast/

Queston: Where in G1 is the story of the female transformers. I can’t find it in my DVD’s and was wanting to watch it.

I think it is in the comics…
