GWC Podcast #155: BSG 4.5 Islanded In A Stream Of Stars

Most. Rambling. Podcast. Ever.

I’m just messing guys. Great cast. Very funny.

a. absolutely agree
b. absolutely disagree (the book ruined the movie for me…I mean where are the suits!!!)

I actually like the movie more than the book, but they were really apples and oranges for me…but not her boobs, those weren’t apples and oranges…and I’m a girl!

I recently pulled out my copy of Razor and watched it again. After seeing the current episode, I have a sneaking suspicion that Anders may be the first Hybrid from Razor.

My reasoning: Anders (one of the final five) was apparently air-locked with the rest of the FF by Cavil. What if he lived through it just like he managed to live through being shot in the head. Cavil took this opportunity to tinker with Anders and attempted to hook him directly into a ship (early Hybrid experimentation?). And when he was found in Razor, before the nuke was detonated, he used the same words Anders spouted in this episode.

When Bill Adama first found the secret cylon base (the day the first Cylon war ended, fourty years prior to the destruction of the 12 colonies) they were developing their first Hybrid.

During Razor, Sharon V. explains that Cylon lore tells of a group of original Centaurians tasked to guard the first Hybrid.

The only real problem with this is a little overlapping in time line that would conflict. This would mean that the FF met up with the Original Centurians while the war was going on, made Cavil and the other 8 and had Cavil Airlock the FF and start experimenting with Anders all while letting the war continue. Would that mean that Cavil actually stopped the war?

This is all just kind of square pegs fit into round holes but still throwing it out there. Please correct any mistakes I may have made

As Audra said, maybe Anders will jump Galactica to the real Earth, and find Cavil’s forces nearby.

Maybe Galactica’s final mission wil be to ram Cavil’s basestar.

The Admiral dies.
Roslin chooses to stay with Adama, she dies.
Tigh stays on Galactica, he dies.
Anders is hooked up to the ship, he dies.
The Chief dies.
Let’s see, who else?

Gods, I’m depressing myself.

I still think there is more to Starbuck, the whole thing of her finding her body on earth. I think they Dee will be found alive next, some how alive, kinda like starbuck… sorry I miss Dee. I think anders will soon control the whole ship and he alone can fight the ship for the crew.

I’m totally fighting with my own curiosity over things just like this. While I really like the idea of just sitting back and enjoying the parking of the narrative (thanks Sean), I’m also a little whiplashed by the changing pacing of how quickly and when the answers will be coming. If I’m honest with myself though, I wouldn’t want it any other way. RDM and the BSG crew take risks and sometimes they don’t feel right to me as a viewer, but I can still appreciate the risks they take and respect the willingness not to be like every other cookie-cutter TV show out there today. While I’m a huge trek fan (can’t wait for the cast arc), I don’t think any of us have to worry about everything being tied up neatly (too damn neatly!) as they did with say TNG. I got a little weepy at the end of TNG, but I don’t go back to that series as much as I suspect I will BSG. TNG finished, hit all its marks, left you with a warm feeling inside…and was consequently done for me, really not to be rewatched. BSG may not end with all the proper conventions, but I’ll be watching it years from now, guaranteed.

Having said that, I’m not sure I need for people to die here. I mean, death would almost be too easy, wouldn’t it? What does Adama have to lose? Laura will die, Galactica’s dead, Lee’s his own man and all growed up now. What is he living for and why would death be such a big loss? Same thing with Ty–how could the guy lose any more, except perhaps if Bill bites it without him? The only two characters I would be shocked to see die is Kara (again) and Hera.

Thanks to everyone for a great cast and more great ideas to chew on!

BTW, I forgot to add before: The woman with the breasts in Starship Troopers was Denise Richards.

Actually, I don’t think there is an overlap.

Please see the following scenario based on your speculation, please note, I am going by memory here. While my memory is good at times, other times it fails miserably!

First the FF get to the colonies after the war is already happening. They offer the resurrection tech to the original centurions in exchange for them ending the war, The centurions end the war & the cylon’s disappear for 40 years. In those ensuing 40 years, the FF come up with the humaniform cylons & the resurrection tech, creating Cavil first. Cavil in turn helps them to creat the other 7 2nd gen hunaniform cylon models. After those 7 are created is when Cavil throws his temper tantrum. I would figure this takes them at most 10 years. In that time he could have hooked Sam up as a hybrid.

There are a couple of problems with the theory itself though. That first hybrid is cearly older than Sam would be in 30 years. There is the possibility that being a hybrid ages you though. Hybrids say similar & the same things other hybrids do on a regular basis, it could be that it’s just something they are getting from the data stream. Lastly, that hybrid’s nose was freaking HUGE! Sam’s, not so much.

It’s possible, I personally don’t think it’s likely.

Huh, I thought it was Dina Meyer who coincidentally played a Romulan in Star Trek: Nemesis…

I dunno, the morning radio shows around here are always talking about her boobs in Starship Troopers. I am not willing to take one for the team & double check!

Denise Richards indeed was in Starship Troopers, but not naked. Dina was.

Denise more than made up for her modesty in Wild Things.

That must be it, I must be getting the 2 movies mixed up.

It was totally Dina - Denise wasn’t showing her boobies at the time.

Jeez, Shaun, where’s the love for all the TF news I brought you? I only showed you pics of Soundwave, DEvastator, and the Fallen, which as far as I know where the first times you saw those characters. That and I informed you and Audra about what will surely be the greatest movie ever made:

Sean is CLEARLY playing favorites!

And I posted all that stuff to the forums.

Oh wait. I see the problem here.

random notes from first hour of 'cast:

  1. re: Adama crying… remember Scott Farkus, the yellow-eyed bully from A Christmas Story? “What are you gonna do, Adama? Cry? C’mon, CRY!”

  2. re: the smoke-able object… what sounds better: space blunt or space spliff?

is it too late for a jay & silent bob cameo as Roslin’s dealer?

hey guys

Sorry I’ll miss the group meet - but I’ll be there in spirit!

And sorry to the listeners for sending the Trek previews that caused Chuck, Sean and Audra to talk Trek for the first half hour or so of the cast. I suck.

Send your hate mail to me at S-E-A-N@galacticawatercooler.com! :D:D

Peace out, my homies!
