Anders and crew were not traveling for thousands of years. Relativistically, it was 2000 years for the Colonies. On the ship far less time would have passed.
Anders likely did NOT wear out both hands!
OK. This has happened before. This will (unfortunately, I think) happen again. Let’s clear the air on the relativistic travel stuff so we maybe don’t circle back on ourselves.
We are aware that the people traveling at relativistic speeds experience time more slowly than the rest of the universe.
However, as I explained in this podcast, there are lots of reasons to believe that though Anders special time with his palm (while less than 2,000 years) was still plenty long enough to cause social/aging problems!

Back when I was in form, I actually sang at Carnegie Hall once. They didn’t pay me, but hell, getting to put that venue on my CV was payment enough.
Unfortunately, I had a house fire and all my recordings of when I was good went up in smoke… I can only remember how “Che gelida manina” used to sound with the high C.
Back to BSG, Chuck, it only takes 35 days at 1G acceleration to reach 99.9% of lightspeed, and hardly any time at all to crank it up to 99.999999 etcetera. It’s not the time of acceleration that’s the problem, it’s the energy. As you start adding nines to the speed, the energy required to continue to accelerate increases exponentially, because your mass increases exponentially. Plus in the real world fuel = mass, making it even more difficult.
I think the actual issue was chaffing…

It’s been my belief for a while that Tilium has magic powers that make as unearthly efficient as it is for the extensive power that should be needed to make a jump…so maybe it has no mass too?
I always assumed it’s the excrement of Tyblonians, an adorable, cape-wearing, extremely intelligent species that loves to eat and immediately therafter have its tummy rubbed.
