GWC Podcast #152: BSG 4.5 Deadlock

Not sure if this has been answered yet, but …

Yes, Chuck, that was John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness.

Or, as a friend of mine called it, “Evil in a Tube.”

Yah, I agree. Haven’t finished the podcast, but so far Audra is smokin this week.

Remember this from Razor:

“Soon there will be four ([Tigh, Tyrol, Tori, Anders), glorious in awakening, struggling with the knowledge of their true selves. The pain of revelation bringing new clarity. And in the midst of confusion, he will find her (Leobin and Starbuck). Enemies brought together by impossible longing (Rebel Cylons + Humans). Enemies now joined as one. The way forward at once unthinkable, yet inevitable. And the fifth, still in shadow (Ellen Tigh), will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering (Death of Liam?). I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin. But in time, it is sin that will consume them. They will know enmity, bitterness, the wrenching agony of one splintering into many (Cylon Civil War). And then, they will join the promised land (is this the “Colony” Cavil talked to Ellen about), gathered on the wings of an angel. Not an end, but a beginning”

Later the Hybrid says this:

What am I, a man? Or am I…machine? My children believe that I am God…I have seenthings…As my own/lone existence comes to a close, only to begin anew, in ways uncertain (This hybrid will resurrect into a new form?).

My theory is the first hybrid is Daniel, my reasoning:
*he is old enough to be equal Cavil in age and all the other hybrids are female;
*he is guarded by “rebel-old school” Cylons. Possibly when Cavil tried to kill him, other “Old-School” Cylons saved part of him, and fled.
*he shows contempt toward “self-described machines who believe themselves without sin,” it reads like a dig at Cavil!
*he is predicts he will be reborn, something only the humanoid cylons and the raiders could do.
*he is the only hybrid that does not appear to control a base ship.
*he appears to be reverend by the “old-school” cylons guarding him (what would they be guarding him from…Cavil!).
*he is the only hybrid that shows self awareness.
*he knows the Five had their memories wiped clean by Cavil and are struggling to regain their true identity.

Thoughts?

I like this theory a lot.

Personally, I think Daniel is just a way to rectify the “how can one of the seven be number eight?” problem, and I don’t think he’ll play a role at all. But we shall see pretty soon. (How weird is it to be able to say that?)

GWC…plays in Peoria (T-shirt please  ) . Couch jumping…not so much. Fun podcast, thanks for the laughs!

yes! i felt i needed to make the effort since there are only a few more eps left!!! good stuff here!!

gathered on the wings of an angel ~ starbuck will lead them there??

i liked this a lot! i’m just along for the ride!

Hmm, if you liked Prince of Darkness, Chuck, did you ever see the 1982 The Thing? Same director for both (although Carpenter didn’t write The Thing).

“Bat Frak Crazy” Sean

I love that !!

Yes, I’ve been waiting for this.

Hey, Welcome to the Forum avoidswork.

I think the reason the baby died has more to do with Caprica Six’s altercation in Dogville.

To say that Ellen is a complicated being is an understatement. She is the demi-god, the wife, the flirt, the mother, she is all these things.

Welcome to the Forum, Albatross.

I know, I keep waiting for something or someone to snap Adama out of it, and put that frakkin bottle down. And it needs to happen soon!

Very interesting. If Daniel is the first hybrid, I wonder if he is still alive somewhere?

Thanks! I wish I had more time to spend here, but it’s a great place to geek out.

Look what someone posted on the youtube page :

ANarayan
Frak. From toasters to blenders. :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha that’s a good one!

…And Chuck is now known as the dude who cried, Wuff! :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice… and how did he identify Kara as the harbinger.

Re: Drunk Adama…

Maybe it’s not entirely appropriate, but one of my favorite Adam Sandler quotes is,

“OH, have another one, ya [frakkin’] lush!

I think it’s that plus the stress Ellen is putting her through. Too much going on with a baby of a type we haven’t seen before.

But I’d also go back to the idea that love is a prerequisite, since Ellen urges Saul to spill his guts.

As a father myself, the episode, while not that strong as a whole, still hits like a semi truck at the end.
