GWC Podcast #150: BSG 4.5 Blood On The Scales

Will they have to search? Didn’t Adama ask Gaeta to make a list of the nearest inhabitable planets a couple of episodes back (maybe he said stars, don’t really remember)?

I have to say, I kind of agree with Sean (don’t have a heart attack Sean! ;)) I’m not convinced they’ve found the real Earth. As Chuck has said before, we know it’s out there, we’ve seen it. Ron Moore fraks with out heads like nobodie’s busieness, but he doesn’t show us something & then not deliver. There’s a reason we didn’t see the continents on that wasteland of a planet. Damned if I know how it’s gonna happen though.

There are very few things I am sure of with this show, they pull the rug out too many times to be sure. However, I am sure that they are not going back to Kobol. I will even go so far as to bet 50 internet dollars on it!

Wow that was an intense post that I think hit some nails on the head.

  1. I could see this since just because the Cylon’s mantra has always been “there are 12 Cylon models” doesn’t mean it’s true and it would be very RDMish to throw a 13th one in as a twist. Since the Cylons weren’t even supposed to talk about the final five the final and 13th one could be not even in their programming/consciousness at all.

  2. Galactica not making it seems almost inevitable now. The only other military ship is the Cylon basestar, they could relocate all of their vipers there if the hybrid lets them.

  3. I can see Lee as president easy but Kara as Admiral I don’t know, she seems a bit unstable for that but she is good in battle and does make some calls better than Adama like when she tells him we don’t have time to take any prisoners, these aren’t your men anymore.

  4. Roslin for sure, I think the death scene she foresaw while the basestar was jumping is pretty much how it will play out. Hey, why no more miracle injections from Hera?

5 and 6 You know that Cavil is going to show up soon and Boomer is a natural to betray him and save the day, who else would on that ship, Simon? Boomer and Chief winding up back together would be a very natural and satisfying end to the Boomer/Chief arc that started way back in the mini-series.

Here’s one for you: How will they resolve the Lee/Anders/Starbuck love triangle that they are keeping alive by having Starbuck kiss Lee and then staying at Anders side when he’s injured?.

I’ve listened to almost the first half hour of this weeks podcast and had to stop. The general lack of knowledge of the details of the show are a little annoying lately.
Captain Kelley was indeed in the miniseries and recurred throughout the series. He was also responsible for the assassination of Baltar’s first lawyer and the attempts on Romo Lampkin, which he was jailed for, back at the end of season 3. I could see someone not remembering Narcho. He was never a big player in the show. But to forget someone who was featured in one of the better episodes of the third season… it’s disappointing.
Hell, I can fast forward through the unending political discussion that is dominating the podcasts lately, but the inaccuracies are getting tiring.

I write this with all due respect to our hosts and the understanding that I may be the problem. Perhaps I’m a little too into the show and the minutia of the BSG universe. However, I can’t see why someone would take the time to do a podcast and not strive to be a little more informed on the topic that is being discussed.

I have to admit that with all of the original speculation that Ellen might come back as Saul and Caprica 6’s baby, I didn’t think about what she is going to do when she finds them. It really hit me when Kate Vernon was talking about Ellen just wanted to have Saul to herself, how she was jealous of his time and attention given to Bill. Holy cow, I don’t think she is going to be very happy.

I have a really good memory, so I easily remember Kelly despite not having seen his last episode in ages. I try to cut people some slack, but when there was confusion about Kelly being Gage, the guy from Pegasus who threatened Helo last episode, and was seen after throughout both episodes always in the CIC while Kelly was always shown far away from CIC, I inwardly groaned.

With all due respect to 'casters, there are occasional “Oh, come on!” moments like that, an example being Audra asking if the Eight in commentary for the Hub episode with Helo was Boomer.

Maybe a quick perusal of Battlestar Wiki before the podcast would help.

Hmmm… That’s interesting. I do know that if Starbuck is somehow related to the goddess Aurora there’s so tie-ins that could give answeres. Yes, I’ve researched this a little… So the goddess Aurora was married to another god, who was conversely the bringer of the stars/night, though her main ‘love’ was a mortal who she ‘stole from the house of princes’, or something like that. Actually she stole two mortal men, one died (Zak Adama?), and she asked Zues for immortal life for the other, but forgot to ask for him not to age. Anyhoo, it seems like this could be a neat little parallel for the Starbuck/Anders/Lee triangle. Don’t their wing tattoos make sense this way?! As for resolution, this is BSG afterall so who knows!

Alas for the colonials, the new Cylon technology does not include a planet-detecting radar  nawww, there’s a reason it takes Racetrack to find anything.

What Adama says is to make a list of the nearest G and K class stars, which is one of those “that’s EXACTLY what they’d do! I love this show!” moments for me, heh, they have practical science instead of technobabble. Also, in the RDM podcast he comments on how Adama is using the same classification system as we do in our world (saying something to the effect of how they thought briefly about doing something different, but then figured it’d be confusing). If you’re curious, here’s the wikipedia article. Uhhh I haven’t read the article myself, heh, but from my stint as an astronomy nerd I can tell you that G-class stars are like our own, and K-class are arguably the most similar type in terms of being likely to have human-habitable planets around them.

Well, was kinda hoping Racetrack would find the airlock…alas…that did not happen.

Guess they can’t send those raptors equipped with the fancy smancy cylon FTL drives to look? Or did they take those out (I watch the show, don’t keep notes on the wall on my bedroom wall of everything that has happened in the show)?

Or, why can’t they send the basestar to look?

Ha, I said almost that exact same thing in a voice mail for “The Oath.”

And I will concede that I think my memory is a little more trained for remembering details like those on a show like this because I myself am an aspiring writer. It’s been over a year and a half since I last saw Kelly’s episode- no notes attached to my bedroom wall.

And I forgot one more thing- the GWCers watch together and probably say a few words to each other now and then. That’s probably how they confused Gage with Kelly despite how far apart the two were on the ship.

Yeah, this is more of a discussion podcast than a news podcast. Things are going to slip every now and then.

Okay, . . .

I love listening to the podcasts, but I think you really missed something on the last one (#150). With Gaeta going out, I think it would have been . . . totally appropriate to include KMetha’s new Gaeta song parady of “The Man Who Sold the World.”

With Gaeta going out, with his stub leg itch finally going away, with him wanting to somehow have a good last memory of life, . . . “The Man Who Sold the World” would have been totally appropriate.

Other than that, great podcast as always . . . .

Wow, what an episode.

So good to see the Chief shaken out of the aloof apathy he’s been in for so long. It was good to see him care about life again.

I haven’t finished listening to the podcast, so apologies if I repeat.

I think Adama is sick. The pills, the discomfort in his neck and shoulders and arm he showed… My first thought was “Does he have a heart condition?”

Ok, so what do they do now? Execute all the mutineers? I think not. Some more will probably be shot or airlocked, but after that, perhaps the dissenters who refuse to accept Adama & Roslin’s authority and who cannot live in the same world as the allied Cylons, will be given a ship/s and asked to leave the fleet?

I too think the situation will unfold along these lines.

On the Cylon baseship, there was a scene where Zarek tells Roslin that Adama was executed. Several reactions are shown of the people standing around Roslin. I believe one of the 8s, who reacted strongly (with grief) must have been Boomer.

I hope Boomer and the Chief can find each other again.
I just re-watched the first 3 episodes of Season 1, and it really struck me how much they loved each other.

I was surprised how many marines agreed to the mutiny, and how many were willing to shoot civilians.

Could be all that, or the fact that he is getting OLD. :stuck_out_tongue:
