GWC Podcast #148

Bwhahaa!!
Me thinks it must be those stories we’ve been told were coming?

Hi. I’ve been a listener for a while, but just joined the forum to say that I thought this was a particularly great episode on the podcast. You guys made an excellent point about the people who had close contact with the Cylons and/or final 5 behaving quite differently when the s*** hit the fan than those who didn’t know one of them personally. I think this is a great observation in the way it ties into those of us who are queer. They always say (for example, see Milk) that coming out is the only way to change people’s minds about hatred and discrimination because only those who know and love and respect people who also happen to be queer will actually believe in and support our equal rights. When you who don’t know someone (gay or Cylon) personally it’s much easier to vote to take away rights, imprison, or execute someone. I think it’s important to talk about Gaeta’s mutiny as entirely racism/hatred motivated and even if we know that he has a lot of strong personal reasons, he’s not overthrowing Adama because of tyranny - he’s on a personal vendetta against an entire group of people.

I first have to say this was one of the best Pod cast to date, great job guys. I would bet that everyone else was on the edge of your seats for this ep too. I on edge for most of the show, pausing only once to get something to drink. How was Gaeta able to recruit so many people with out one person hearing about it and telling the leadership? I once on a 9 month deployment with no go home date, every day there was a different rumor about going home. The CO heard almost all the rumors, I know this due to the fact he got on the MC1 (ship wide speaker phone) and told us it’s just a rumor. The day we got the word to go home he was the first to tell us. Back to the show, if you are going to Baltar for help that means things are really bad, but I believe the president said it right, he’s core valve to stay alive, since we saw only him leaving, none of the girls that built him up as a god.
The brig was filling up fast, but since we didn’t see Prego 6 getting picked up like the rest I would have to say I think she is still in the brig, but I don’t know why. Only other thing I can come up with is that she is living with Tigh like the President and Adama.

After hearing about Trucco finding dissing on online forums abit discouraging I used the Season 3 Gag Reel audio to make up this:-

Thanks to Gryper and Pike that's all fixed up

PS I hope you can get the “Disembodied spirit of Gaeta’s Amputated Leg” as a regular! That would be great!

Great podcast! Michael Trucco is such a great guy, and you really want to give him a hug or something, because he didn’t deserve all the craaaaap the internet gave him first off. Glad you guys showed him the love of the GWC. I loved his quip about Bob Dylan…he had me too.

Loved your comments about Caprica’s wardrobe, and I guess I just don’t think twice about Cylons’ strange wardrobes anymore. Is it just me or did the guys really get the short stick this episode? Starbuck, Caprica, Athena…all fine. Anders, Helo, random marines? Not so much.

The Trucco interview was really cool. I have to say the fact that he was so hurt by the internet trolls makes him that much more endearing.

It’s funny you post on this because I was thinking the same thing especially with respect to the many parallels with the recent Proposition 8 vote we had out here in California. Many in the community supportive of gay marriage had become complacent once the state supreme court recognized it as a constitutionally guaranteed right. However, what was failed to be realized was the need for real leadership in convincing the masses that this is so. Too many leaders were willing to say they didn’t support Prop 8, but few campaigned very strongly or impassionedly for its defeat. Nor was there adequate community outreach to those segments of the population still wary of gay marriage. If Adama thought the Cylon alliance and merger with the fleet was a good thing, then he had to realize that many people still needed convincing and lead on that issue. Instead he became complacent based on his own personal experience with Athena and Tigh and didn’t realize the need to pull the vast majority of humanity along.

The funny this is, that this episode was probably completed before last fall’s election. Just goes to show how the writers are not necessarily tackling specific modern day issues, but the quality of their writing still allows the stories to serve as commentaries on the basics of the human condition that will repeatedly pertain to new specific current events…

Very True.

I bet Emily and AndersFan were screaming at their iPods for the crue to tell Trucco about Arm porn.

A little something like this perhaps?
“On a personal note, if you could’ve made Trucco squirm just a bit more about Arm porn, it wouldn’t have hurt!”
(Modelled on Baltar talking to Lee and Romo after the trial during Crossroads Part 2)

This is only my second GWC podcast but it was great! I found that I didn’t like Anders much at first myself and now that I think on it I can’t say why. I think it’s because I, like I’m sure many others, didn’t like the idea that Starbuck needed or even wanted anyone. The softening of Starbuck came off as somewhat disappointing, and at first it seemed hard to see Anders as a character with his own agenda and thoughts, and not just as a wedge to throw between Kara and Lee. As the show has gone on I’ve disliked him less, and hearing Trucco describe his character really encourages me to re-watch the show after it ends to try to better understand his character.

If someone said this I’m sorry I didn’t see it (I did skim over the thread), but no one seems to entertain the possibility that the grenade is a flashbang.

You guys make a GREAT podcast. I’ve listened to fan podcasts for several different topics of interest and this one is a great mix of serious discussion, light-hearted jokes, and great guests. It never feels like teenagers in a basement, like some I’ve heard; it sounds like people who “get” both Battlestar and the fan community talking in-depth about a show that begs exploration. The podcast saved me from hating the second episode of 4.5, and was the first thing I could NOT wait for after episode 3 exploded in my face.

An M84 flashbang to be precise. Working on mocking a few up for my marine costume.

Trucco- looks like beefcake, talks like the knows what’s what. That was a fantastic interview. Thanks, guys!

I think Sean’s Apollo-to-Anders physique comparison made him gloat enough. Props to Trucco though. I don’t think I’d be that down-to-earth if I were that huge. I’d probably be a [sorryBarb]hole. I’d tromp around thinking those kids watching BSG were a bunch of nerds.

Heh, I waited the whole interview for Sean’s mancrush on Anders to come up. Knew he wouldn’t disappoint!

I’m vaguely disappointed that during the interview with Trucco no-one shouted out AAAAARRRRM POOOOOOOOOOOORNNNNNNNNN :stuck_out_tongue:

Apart from that minor detail, wonderful 'cast!

You know, we could always send him a shirt. I bet the crew has his agent’s details.

So if the Crew actually sends Trucco an Arm Porn tee shirt, then they have to send Kandyse McClure and Nicki Clyne Larry’s Landscaping shirts…
