There was also Operation Valkyrie, which was conducted entirely by Nazis.
The question isn’t whether good Cylons/Nazis exist, the question is whether the fears of the fleet are unreasonable, and should be overruled at the point of a gun.

I certainly do not take this as you picking on me. Besides the fact that I totally put my foot in my mouth ‘jumping’ on someone who I mistakenly thought was insulting me and have since learned that the folks here on the forum don’t do that or ‘pick’ on people (except in a good natured way at times), I think you and I probably have similar opinions of Jackson.
AAAAHHHH!!! NNNOOOO!!! I listen to the podcasts in the car and they keep me very much entertained for the 3-5 hours that I am typically in the car each day. I have to say that I was suprised by this most resent 2.5 hour session, but I’m not compaining
I would absolutely love if they did that! I’m afraid it’ll be less of a happy ending, but it seems to make sense and explain why Leoben was so afraid. Tigh/Six’s baby is supposedly this miracle…imagine if Kara came first, a forerunner of all that. But it would make sense in other areas, at least in my mind. Especially when you look at how Anders and Tigh both dealt with guerilla resistance, and the psychology idea of women marrying men like their fathers…there’s at least some similarity there. (Though you could also make the case that Starbuck and Tigh are similar, just like Starbuck and Anders are similar).
Just a couple of quick thoughts - I have to agree that it was a totally bonehead move on the part of Zarik to attempt to incite civil war amongst the fleet. But now that he has call and received the vote he wanted to have each ships commander make their own decision as to if they want the Cylon FTL tech I think that the skippers need to think long and hard and make their decisions. Those that want the cylon tech, get it and are able to jump with Galactica, those that don’t want it are on their own. Immediate exceptions are the tillium ship and the food production ship - they get the cylon tech by force if need be due to the fact that they are stratigically necessary for the maintenance of Galactica. Those that take the tech travel with the safety and protection of the battlestar, those that don’t are left to their own devices…and if the 145s show up then they have to take the consiquences.
Is this the best or smart way to go about it? Don’t know, and I’m not saying that A/R are doing the right thing b/c I think that they have dug themselves a hell of a deep hole, but I think that stratigically speaking that would be the way to go.
Absofrakkinlutely!
I don’t believe in bullying, but it should be made clear that those who agree to the upgrades get them, those who don’t (all should consult their peeps and perhaps have a vote) get left.
If “the people” are truly Zarek’s concern, they should be consulted. See how he likes taking his own medicine.
People who don’t agree with their ship’s captains should be able to migrate freely to ships that share their point of view. A big shuffle. Free will is not violated. The people take the risks they can live with.
It would be a giant clusterfrak, so there has to be someone without cranial/rectal inversion to lead this call.
Frakkin’ Gaeta. I loved you, maaan. Still do, but it hurts. It hurts.
I can’t wait to see how this one pans out. How crushed will I be? Don’t know, but I’m in for the ride!
Oooh that sounds like fun!
And once people have “migrated,” they can also be forced to swap physical ships in accordance with population
Gachnar, a well-argued and thought-provoking post! Welcome to GWC. I know you’ll find plenty of folks here who enjoy this type of conversation.
Reydaman, glad to have you around - one of the things we try our hardest to do here is make sure everyone feels welcome to voice his/her opinion. Lots of good people here - hope you continue to post and enjoy the podcast.
Re: Length of 'cast – like Armando stated, I also listen to mine on my to/from work commute so the Crew can make it as long as they want.
Peeps, Ellen is the Fifth. My Comcast description stated that “The final cylon is revealed” as the summary of “Sometimes A Great Notion.” And, let me say, the ONE thing I did not want was for the Fifth to be dead. Grr…
That said, it’s BSG and I’m along for the ride. As long as what the show presents is plausible, I’ll bite.
I do hope soon that we discuss Kobol, the Sacred Scrolls and what occurred on Kobol that caused the exodus of the Thirteenth Tribe (of [Ancient] Cylons), followed millennia later by the exodus of the Twelve Tribes.
I agree with Sean: whatever happened to Starbuck v2, I believe, is the key to the Final Five and how they found immortality. I just hope it is not supernatural, but somehow related to whatever technology is used by the Final Five (maybe some time of Guardian Centurions?).
Somewhere in S3, I recall Cavil mentioning something about the original programmers in reference to D’Anna’s quest to uncover the Five. Are our Five/Four these “original programmers” or is there something we have yet to see.
Man, I love this show. Always surprising.
Thanks, Audra! (You totally sound like an English prof in your post )
Frakkin’ Gaeta. I loved you, maaan. Still do, but it hurts. It hurts.
Dude, I know! Only on this show could I feel so bad for a character while simultaneously hoping that someone will smack him on the head with his own prosthetic leg.
Wow.
These last few episodes have really started some discussion! Wow.
BTW, I love the two hour podcasts. It is my favorite podcast and I hope they go on forever!
So, um, not to be a downer, but frankly I am not sure anyone will live to see the end of the series. Keep in mind that things are falling apart and that while everyone is being a bit of a douche, they are at the breaking point.
I do think that everyone is honestly trying to do what they think is best for the fleet, except Tori of course. But Chuck’s heat sink analogy is pretty true.
I hope Audra is feeling better. Lots of people are passing the cold/flu around this time of the year:
A quick Audra update: She seems to be feeling a lot better, and though she’s not yet ready to take on a spicy vindaloo, she is ready for a normal-sized meal.
Thanks so much for all the well-wishes, which really did help cheer her up last week!
Now it makes sense—Gaeta is from the mirrior universe!! On the ISS Galactica
I just wanted to remind everyone of something I just remembered. This kind of goes with this conversation as well as Richard Hatch’s Cain conversation. Adama has left people behind in the interest of the greater safety of the rest of them before. If you recall, in the mini they left behind all ships that were not FTL capable. That IS making the hard choices. At this point I’m sure they want to keep as many survivors with them as possible, but if they become an albitross, they need to be left behind as well.
While the Crue were talking about Zarek and the sheep in the Quorum, I thot about the ‘Phantom Menace’ Palpatine and his rise to power. Zarek and the Sith Lord have much in common, especially in the way they conduct politics. Zarek always has an ace in the hole.
Roslin made the decision to leave those people behind. She fought with Adama first then they were attacked. Adama thot they died so he went to Ragnar. Roslin was left to deal with the crisis alone.
Glad to hear that she’s feeling better!
Yeah, I thought of that too. Although at the time you have to remember that a bunch of cylon…sss were bearing down on them and within seconds of killing everyone. So the decision was either stay and die or leave the non-FTL ships and live. I probably would have made the same call. The good of the many and all that.
In Kane’s case however, she had time to work it all out. She had to choose between being a military force ready to strike back at the cylon…sss or a caravan leader willing to lead away a colonial fleet. I think this speaks well to the difference between Kane and Adama as the one was a “fighting admiral” and the other was a “compassionate admiral”.
I partailly agree with R Hatch here in that Kane did have to make a hard decision and it may not seem right. But put yourself in her shoes. The admiral of the fleet, just had the whole fleet wiped out and hers is the only battlestar left. I think she thought “look I can either kill these people fast by leaving them to the cylons or kill them slowly be dragging them around the universe always running.”
Not saying it was right, but being a bit of a hard-ass and fighter Kane chose to turn and fight, and since we’re all gonna die anyway, we’ll take what these civillians have so that we can inflict as much damage as possible for as long as possible.
And lets not forget that she opened herself up to a relationship, maybe for the first time, and found out her girlfriend was responsible in part for the death of humanity. Kinda skews your perspective, know what I mean?..
Anyway, I like Kane the character, even if I don’t agree with everything she did.

When Chuck mentioned the possibility that Starbuck deleted her own memory to hide what was really going on, in a similar Zaphod from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It made me laugh because what if Starbuck was in on the whole thing; but she messed with her own memory because she knew and rightly so, that no one back in fleet would believe her or be willing to trust Starbuck 2.0 have just come from some unknown power or fleet that was able to build a new Viper, and Starbuck for that matter.
I could not help but think of how messed up Zaphod was after he met the person who ruled the Galaxy in the book “Life the Universe and Everything”. It is not unlike what has been happening to most of the crew on the Galactica and the civilian fleet.
To be more specific what happened to Zaphod when he did a bit of soul searching, might just mirror what Gaeta is going through.
The first shock of that moment, thinking back, had been discovering that he actually had a soul…
…but suddenly actually to encounter the thing lurking there deep within him had given him a severe jolt.
And then to discover (this was the second shock) that it wasn’t the totally wonderful object which he felt a man in his position had a natural right to expect had jolted him again.
Then he had thought about what his position actually was and the renewed shock had nearly made him spill his drink.

I know this is off-topic, but I am relatively new and I’m curious.
Is there a story behind the Alpaca thing?
