GWC Podcast #131

I have the same problem with “perfect storm,” “110%”, “stick-to-it-iveness,” “sent shockwaves through the community,” and the use of the word “gourmet” to describe any offering in a chain restaurant.

Hm…I should probably continue this thought in the Pet Peeves thread.

Whaaa?

Hey! No trolling!

That’s Chuck for ya. A first rate guy that returns wise-[sorrybarb]-iness with kindness…

My boss hates the phrase “low hanging fruit.” So when he went on vacation one year, we “decorated” his office. My contribution was to take some plastic fruit and hang it from the ceiling. Two years latter some of it is still there.

My linguistic pet peeves are ‘literally’ used in place of ‘figuratively’ and ‘data’ used as a singular.

Well, there was only one of him.

I don’t know…I mean, it’s fancy, expensive, probably would gather a lot of attention at an evening fête, but to call it the ultimate one? Too subjective…

Then he should have been named Datum, dammit!

I am so enjoying these X-Men podcasts/posts. This is new territory for me (outside the movies that is). Very nice, very nice.

Also, “outside of the box” and “emotional roller coaster.”

You’re just not thinking outside the roller coaster.

Use that, and watch their heads spin.

Remarks re: general awesomeness on display in this arc:

The X-Men arc marks the furtherest departure from GWC’s regular subject matter (generally outer-space sci-fi), and it’s still great. So that’s awesome to see (hear). GWC will be fine after BSG wraps.

I’ve been into X-Men off and on (mostly off in recent years) for a long time, and the discussion of them in the forums and podcast is still making me see the X-verse from new angles. And it’s great how there’s something different for everybody in the mutant world.

But the AWESOMEST single bit yet was how Audra would use Mystique’s powers. Never in my life – and I’ve kicked around the subject a bit – have I heard anyone say they’d use their mutant ability to get on NPR. That’s great!

“Welcome to Frrrresh Air. I’m Terry Gross. My guest, Audra Heaslip, can shape-shift…”

Well, Lebowski was probably the biggest departure, but your larger point stands.

Not, as they say, good radio… :stuck_out_tongue:

does anyone have a link to the sale that they referred to in the podcast of all the BSG stuff for sale?

I’m losing track in this flurry of podcasts and bonus podcasts… What if the GWC crew had the Jamie Maddox power and could conduct seven podcasts at the same time?

Addendum: “My guest, Audra Heaslip, is a mutant who can shape-shift. She’s used it to make some of the most fascinating observations on race relations since Eddie Murphy dressed up for the Saturday Night Live skit…”

The prop auction.

You may want to listen to this episode of Galactica Quorum, in which they talk to the guy behind the auction. Fascinating stuff (also, envy-inducing.)

And welcome aboard!

Speaking of which, I am going to go see it on the brig screen tomorrow night! Since I was too young to see it in theaters, I am doubly excited. Those of you in DC, get yourselves to E Street Cinema for the midnight show!

The brig? What did you do?

I “accidentally” ran afoul of the law when I discovered that they torture you in D.C. prisons by forcing you to watch Jeff Bridges’ films.

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but does anyone know what the significance is of the book “Once and Future King” is in X2? (great book by the way).
