GWC Podcast #114

The GWC crew spends some time this week with Matrix Reloaded. Highlights: we discuss Matrix diversity and the struggle against conformity, marvel at how love, spirituality, and sexuality blend into one amazing life-affirming rave (and why, therefore, humanity is worth more than a good steak), ponder the architect’s very important speech, enjoy seeing the “humanity” of the machines (and the necessity of human/machine interdependence), and note that Monica Bellucci wears a rubber dress like no other.

Bah I’m debating with myself.

Watch a movie or listen to the new cast?

I save the casts for Mondays at work!

I wonder if they got my call in time for this.

I haven’t listened to this 'cast yet. But I did watch The Annimatrix for the first time this past week. And I did half of my rewatch of Matrix: Reloaded last night.

“Kid’s Story” is one of my favorite of the Animatrix shorts, and after watching Reloaded last night I just figured something out!!
I don’t know if you’d call this a spoiler or not, but I will put spoiler tags on it just in case some of you haven’t seen Animatrix yet–it is a spoiler for Animatrix “Kid’s Story”:
The “Kid” in "Kid’s Story is the kid in Matrix: Reloaded !!! (I mean he’s the kid that’s fawning all over Neo when Neo arrives at Zion–offers to carry his bag etc.) How cool is that!! And in reload the kid says to Neo “Thank you for saving me.” And Neo says the same line that he said to the kid at the end of Kid’s Story: “No. You saved yourself.”
Not really a spoiler IMO. There are a bunch of little connections like the Kid with the Enter the Matrix vid game. Also the first scene is a direct play off of Flight of the Osiris.

I am midpodcast and think the machines making a perfect world may have just been pride. I mean the programs are perfect in their “eyes”.

The bodyguards I thought were vampires not werewolves. They had the teeth thing going and were watching a vampire move. So could they made a mistake with the bullets?

hooray~ XD

Great call IYKWIM. You do have a great midwestern U.S. accent. Now we know you are not from New Jersey. GR is from Chicago.

on the usbject of destiny, i am here to share not really my belief of Buddhist view again, simply because i think a lot of the background of this movie is build upon that.

When you are born, you are born with Karma, which reflectsdeeds, good or bad, from your past lifes. Some are born into royalty and riches, or born with disabilities or into a bug or something. That is the part of Karma that a person can’t change. If the person doesn’t do anything to better or worsen his karma, there is a path which he will likely follow and ever break out of it. However, by creating new karma in this life, and thus changing your destiny, you can become a totally different person going down a different path.

In the Matrix, that’s similar to the function you were given by default, whether it’s a program with a specific purpose, or a human battery that is guided to certain profession. But as we seen in Reloaded, the program can choose to go down another path. Thus creating their own destiny.

Just to share with everyone.

Ok So first off I guess I should say Hi! I found you guys shortly after Revelations and have fallen in love. I agree with what chuck had to say about the matrix and the fighting and how it stands for talking in that world. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of the anime Ghost in the shell? It is what the makers of the matrix looked at as an idea for the movies. Anyway back to the podcast

Hey CodyfromOhio! Welcome to the GWC forum. From what I understand the Wachowski bros original concept for the Matrix was to make a live-action Japanime film. Bullet-time technology made that possible.

Yeah. I’ll have to find the video on youtube but the brothers were interviewed about it at some point. It’s good to meet you guys on here at last! I have to say this place is much better then the sci fi fourms for bsg.

I think I saw it on the DVD Extras from the Matrix DVD.

Here’s the video. Make of it what you will. It seems that they really wanted to take animes LIKE ghost in the shell and use them as a jumping off point for the fighting scene’s in the movies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3tF7TL0Qh4

LOL!! This has got to be one of the funniset podcast’s I have ever heard! I’m going to steal some of sean and chucks joke’s!
