And this was one of his other memorable movie roles:
That’s agent Smith in the middle and come to think of it that’s Chancellor Valorum/General Zod on the right…

OMG Phil! You beat me to the punch!!
(and you won’t see Dirty Dancing?!! wtf!!???)
I abso-frakkin-lootely love Priscilla, Queen of the Desert!
As Alpacas!
Lol! I had that thought during the 'cast and didn’t find a place to squeeze it in.
Thanks for the props, Solai! (Still wondering what inside knowledge I revealed but appreciative anyway.)
I also had a problem with the two roles. I guess it is a testament to good acting. I just love his voice.
I did not find a problem accepting the Matrix clothing and odd visuals. I think it is all that fantasy and science fiction reading I did as a kid. I mean they flat out tell you it is not real. Back to listening.
I’m thinking he meant the Galaxyranger Jersey comment.
I finished the cast a while ago and I just wanted to say that I thought the philosophical debate about the movies was really interesting. I found Audra’s comment about fearing that you have no purpose in life fascinating. I’m like Sean and just live for today and try to be the person that I want to be. Sometimes I find that to be a challenge. I see Audra’s point though. I think most people at one point or another feels like they need validation that all they’ve done in life matters and makes a difference.
Yeah, I was surprised that someone wouldn’t ‘get’ the movie, so it was interesting to hear how Sean was noodling his way through it.
It may be as simple as thinking to hard to make it real. I accept the parameters of the fiction I read or watch. Superman can fly and time travel is possible. I just hate when the writers break their own rules.
I have not finish more than half an hour of the podcast and will return to listening.
Now listened for the first hour. I thought the end of the movie speech on the phone was being directed to us.
I dunno I’m with original Sean still on the pvc and leather and such. Not from a “I don’t get WHY” but from a technical standpoint. Body Armor >>>>>>>>>>>>> Looking cool
I’ve mentioned this before, but it seems apt now: If you haven’t seen The 13th Floor, go rent/DL it now.
It was a really good movie that happened to be about virtual reality and had the bad luck (prolly due to the title) to come out right about the time of The Matrix. I remember one of the actors complaining that they were told to say on the talk shows “It’s like The Matrix, but without the visual effects” which didn’t sell many people.
But it’s a good movie in its own right, and deserves more attention.
I am listening to the podcast then Olympics then podcast then the Olympics.
Hate to call you out on this chuck but I think you wern’t reallyf air here. You said you were a “jackass” when you first saw the Matrix. Is that reallyf air? lolI mean its an opinion lol
To be truthful, the “not a fan” statement was just me being diplomatic. Kind of like saying “I’m not a fan of getting cancer.” Doesn’t mean I’m not still anticipating the conversations on the next two movies. But Audra stuck up for me, so I thought I should be honest.
BTW, does anyone think bkitty’s avatar looks like it was born to be trapped in Matrix code? I didn’t think I could laugh any harder at that poor bunny until I saw it “plugged in.” “Not like this! Not like this!”
absolutely!! I think Munch’s original looks very much like someone who’s just learned about the matrix
For some reason my copy cut off the moment Chuck started talking about steaks and cabernet. Sigh. Gotta re-download.
THANKS for putting up a Matrix rewatch! I’m glad to hear Sean so animated.
Oh, and I wonder if anyone noticed: the series may be as far out into the future as we can imagine, but I snickered when I heard the opening sounds: a modem dialling and picking up a signal.
Great cast. This movie is cool beans and it’s great to have an excuse to watch the whole trilogy again…and watch Animatrix for the first time.
Totally agree about the Elrond scene in LOTR. “DON’T LISTEN FRODO, HE’S JUST GONNA STICK HIS HAND IN YOU AND TURN YOU INTO HIM”.
I always though Neo was the One all along but now I’ve heard the cast, I’m starting to think about the possibility that he wasn’t always so. The oracle telling him he wasn’t used to anoy me as it seemed pointless to say that when he wasn’t but this would make it make sense.
Lol at Audra’s comment about cookies. Now, I’m not gonna be able to watch the scene where Neo bites in in the same way again.
Just a quick question. What is the podcast gonna be on next week. I wanna “call” (aka send mp3 file as I can’t afford to call USA) for next week but wanna send a relevent comment. Will it be Animatrix, Matrix Reloaded or Clone Wars? Or possibly neither
Great 'cast, as always, though I was shocked when you started talking about the S&M club. That made me pause my ipod and think, “Were we watching the same movie? I think I’d remember seeing that…” Then it dawned on me that I’ve only seen the first to Matrix movies (“Matrices”?) on cable. Guess they left a few shots out of the TV edit, eh? Oh well, it’s a good excuse to rent them now.
I really loved the Matrix music. I however did not know all of the particulars. Thank you for the info.
Speaking of which, I was just wondering about that. I’ve noticed a lot of people have given their avatars the green character waterfall treatment… Did everyone take Photoshop classes together, or is there some kind of script on a site somewhere that does this for you?
I’m actually giving myself too much credit. When I saw the movie in the theater I was a complete jackass in every sense of the word. You know how I can be annoying sometimes now? Just multiply that times 100, remove a healthy chunk of competence and skill, and lop off a little patience for good (bad?) measure.
Seriously, though, I’ve learned a lot about how to watch movies. I’ve discovered that a lot of the movies I truly hated back in the day turned out to be quite enjoyable later – even some of my favorites. It’s so easy to get all tied up in knots about some particular concept and end up missing all the rest. When I originally saw The Matrix, I was so tangled up in the details that I missed the overall concept – which, incidentally, would’ve explained the details. Doh!
All of which, BTW, doesn’t mean that some movies don’t suck. Some do. But thankfully, I get enjoyment from more movies these days.
Funny: this is one of the things I made fun of when I first saw the flick. When you think about it, everything in the Matrix is anachronistic as the world’s at least a couple hundred years – and maybe as much as a thousand – older than it seems. I always thought that it sorta made sense that the crew flaunted older items like he '68 Lincoln, the rotary dial phone in the initial find-Neo-the-battery rig, and the beat-to-hell wing chairs. They bend the Matrix in other ways, why not this way?
Once I realized that the Oracle isn’t an oracle at all but rather a manipulator from hell it all makes a lot more sense.
That’s a great question and one we should’ve answered before we recorded the 'cast, I suppose. Officially, the next podcast will be about Matrix Reloaded. We’re considering inserting a 'cast about Clone Wars but haven’t yet had the chance to see it. I’ve heard mixed reviews. Hopefully we’ll get out to the theater this week.
FWIW, nothing’s really explicit. It’s more the aesthetic that carries through. The Rolling Stone article Audra and I mentioned has a really good take on the whole concept regarding the Wachowski lifestyle and how it infuses the movie with a unique style and feel. Which, incidentally, leads me to:
I’d first like to note that I’m talking about an RS article that ran around 2002 or 2003, not the 2006-7 “Mystery of Larry Wachowski” bit.
I’d further like to first that my comments regarding “alternate lifestyle” referred solely to BDSM as opposed to any rumors regarding Larry Wachowski. My attitude regarding these matters is simple: Unless I’m involved with the individual romantically, what’s in their underwear is none of my business, and I’m happy to call them by whatever name they choose and feel comfortable with. This most certainly applies to Larry Wachowski.
And I understand that Andy Wachowski lives differently than his brother. I always assumed that since they were so close, Andy must experience some of Larry’s lifestyle. I guess I didn’t feel a strong urge to separate the two since I don’t see my comments re: Larry as an indictment. From all I can tell, what he’s doing isn’t damaging anyone, except maybe a few of the sit-around-the-scanner-all-day types. (Yep, I grew up in the middle of nowhere.)
I wasn’t kidding when I said that Sean completely turned me on to this music. I enjoyed it in the movie, but didn’t own any. It probably makes up 50% of Sean’s listening, so I’ve heard it over and over now. Great stuff, and awesome for working.
I don’t know about the rest of the gang, but I downloaded GIMP for all my image manipulation needs, since it’s free. I’ve used Photoshop as well, and it’s similar enough that if you know one you can figure out the other – layers and filters and such. If you don’t know either, well, there are a whole bunch of people here who can help you through it.
Basically, I took my usual avatar (Marahute, the Great Golden Eagle from Rescuers Down Under), turned it greenish, and then slapped a picture of Matrix code over it that I DLed from the Internets. I can lead you thru the details if you’re interested, DBT.
