GWC Podcast #107

Your icon is hilarious Audra. You should go with JarJar during the SW arc. :stuck_out_tongue:

For Audra:
Women Jedi on the High Council during the movies
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shaak_Ti
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Yaddle
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Depa_Billaba

Depa plays a interesting role in Shatterpoint….One of my favorite SW Novels behind the Thrawn Trilogy.

As for Audible and Star Wars….I joined a while back mainly for Star Wars audiobooks (I also got a Battlestar audiobook there as well…so, so). Believe it or not I run and bike while listening to audiobooks and podcasts (I am a Scifi Jock…I guess that makes me a Sock). BUT they have recently stopped putting Random House audiobooks as of this year…right before the last Legacy of the Force audiobook release  (I had to get it elsewhere).

When I asked why this had happened they sent this:

We have removed some specific Random House titles from our website while we work with the publisher to renew our deal. While we want to get these titles replaced quickly, our goal is to also preserve low prices for our customers. We hope to put these titles back in the store as quickly as possible. However, you can still access and download the books that you had purchased of this series at any time. :frowning:

BTW- For all you Jedi bashers out there that feel they are baby snatchers….Podcast for you: http://www.adpov.net/

Funny, short and sweet and will not interfere with your GWC listening.

Oh and thanks for the GWC podcast… you guys have made my morning runs much more enjoyable. I often wonder what people think as I run by them laughing.

Welcome Tarzan. You Tarzan. Me frakkintalos.

That you’re crazy. Hope that helps. Do it on the bus or train. You’ll always get a seat.

Damn! Is the bar for first posts raised for everyone? I’m not complaining, mind you…

Oh yeah, Welcome aboard. You Tarzan. We, well, everyone else…

Good call Tarzan. I forgot about Shak Ti being on the council and Depa Billaba. Adding Adi Galia to the list makes a total of four female Jedi Council members.

Good call: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Adi_Galia

I didn’t know this…
In 30 BBY, Adi Gallia was sent with Ki-Adi-Mundi and A’Sharad Hett (famous former Jedi much later on) to track down the deadly bounty hunter Aurra Sing (cool female bounty hunter/former jedi), an infamous killer of many Jedi.

Cool pic of Aayla and Aurra fighting.

More notworth female jedi during the clone wars:

How could I forget Anakin’s Padawan in the new Clone Wars Movie

And one of the badest dark Jedi (also in the movie)
Asajj Ventress

Yeah, that happens in the Dark Horse on-going Star Wars series b4 turning into Star Wars:Repulic. There are some great story arcs with Ki-Adi Mundi, Quinlan Vos, and Aayla Secura in the earlier life of the series. I think you can find them all in graphic novel form now.

Thanks for the heads up…I was reading the Legacy era comics, but figured it would be cheaper to let it end and buy the graphic novel. It is about that time to check the online comic store.

It just goes to show just how big the SW universe is these days…Comics, books, games and soon TV!!!

FINALY listneing to this episode but…oh my gosh…did Audra jsut say Haydon Christonson was well casted? lol. Did my call about the two emotions of Haydon make this show? lol

Great question!
I was pretty young when 4 came out - 10 years old. I remember going to see it but pretty vaguely - memories of going to see 5 & 6 are clearer. I get what you’re asking - there are definitely movies that I remember having such a sense of wonder about as a kid that just did not hold up as an adult. That said, yep, I really do think 4,5 and 6 are much better movies. I’ve seen them all numerous times as an adult (with 3 boys, you’d better believe it!) and it’s still always fun. Not to be a hater, but 1, 2, and 3 - tough to stomach more than once in a blue moon. I still appreciate them for expanding the star wars world, but I could weep for the wasted potential.

So, just as last week, my kids are loving these Star Wars podcasts.
As soon as we get in the car they all say in unison, “Play THE Podcast.”
So now GWC is officially known around here as “THE” Podcast.
(they just can’t figure out who Barb is and why everyone is so sorry for her)

LOL

That’s a great story. More kids for the Trinity to corrupt. :stuck_out_tongue:

It is very tragic, what happened to Barb. Our hearts and prayers go out to her and her family.
I heard the eject button on her DVD player broke and the only thing they have to watch is Phantom Menace. THE HORROR!!!

Consider yourself lucky - never mind 1,2 and 3 - I still can’t get past the Ewoks and the chortling images and characters at the end of 6. Nearly 30 years ago now. It’s just all so wrong.

And, while I’m at it, so was Kirk’s death. (“It was…fun…” How can smart, talented people come up with such tripe?)

Come to think of it, these Star Wars and Star Trek screw ups are a big part of why BSG resolving in a satisfactory way is so important. It’s been a looooong time since “we” have had an ending like 2001.

I DEMAND AN ENDING TO BSG THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO IMPROVE UPON!!!

Very nice. Great story!

…Next generation Watercooler fans. God help your family once the GWC go on a “Sci-fi Book Arc” podcast series… :stuck_out_tongue: So much prime material!

Yes there have been only a few instances where long anticipated scifi/fantasy ending/productions actually delivered. The good I consider: All Good Things…, the finale of ST:TNG and the Lord of the Rings movies. The disappointments that lead fans to be wary are the SW prequels, the ultimate direction of X-Files, and the afore mentioned of Kirks death.

The one thing that gives me hope about BSG is that from what I understand RDM has always had a place he wanted to take the series. He may not have had it planned out how he was going to get there but at least he had a destination which is certainly different than the X-Files.

That said I am looking forward to the X-Files movie. While their grand story arc originally started out as quite compelling, the show also produced many great ‘Freak-of-the-Week’ episodes too. From what I hear the movie is more similar to the latter…

I just wanted to say, thank you Solai. You have explained my feelings about these movies more succinctly & much more eloquently than I have been able to since seeing them. I find myself sitting here feeling foolish because I feel that disappointment so keenly once again that I want to cry. Which pains me to no end…crying over a bunch of movies! But there it is none the less.

“All Good Things…” was a fitting finale. But DS9 and Voyager … I still don’t know what happened at the ending of either (or wish that I didn’t).

For what probably will turn out to be a one shot deal the ending of Serenity was pretty darn good - The scene with River and Mal managed to be very nice and not over the top (and then, of course, a piece of the “boat” flying off was perfect).

The ending of The Lord of the Rings is what true genius gives us lesser men. And it took years before the full greatness of Tolkien’s work was appreciated. He never had to live up to his own press or, seemingly, ever believed his own press. He remaind a don (albeit a quite wealthy one) at Oxford.

When one has the success, money, adulation, etc. that George Lucas had had before he embarked on his prequel, it must be very difficult to maintain an even keel. Certainly, there is no reason to listen to anybody who might edit your work. After all, you’re a genius - except that you’re not. Talented and smart - sure. Genius - nope.

genius ~ “you keep usin dat werd…i do not think it means whad you think it means” it just means it comes easy to you…which it did with the first two…AND THEN??..and then???..and then??..NO “AND THEN”!! and especially when you surround yourself with a bunch of sycophants like that rick mccallum?? whoever the fffffff~ phantom menace that guy is (you know who i mean!) the actors on the first film had guts to say “this dialog isn’t working” and he wrote i think with his wife, did he not???
