GWC Podcast #105

Man you just misquoted somethin. I misremembered an entire scene including location and characters involved. Think about that, thot

I like the Kara being the harbinger of Cylon death theory, but didn’t the Hybrid in “Razor” say she would “lead humanity to its end”? Did this season’s hybrid simply “retcon” the prophecy to read “lead them to their end,” which is more ambiguous? I don’t have the texts in front of me, so it’s a mistake to theorize without that – but, if the original form of the prophecy specified humanity, that would seem to present a challenge to the theory advanced in the podcast (or at least a minor complication).

I realize I am late to the discussion, but my belief is that a Trekker is a Trekkie who takes themselves way too seriously  (which is why I was a Trekker all through my teeange years but now, hell yeah I’m a Trekkie!) Still no Spock ears, though

Grandpa Goo says: “Kara Thrace will lead the human race to its end. She is the herald of the apocalypse, the harbinger of death. They must not follow her.”

except the “end” and the “death” of which she is the harbinger aren’t necessarily the same thing. “end” could be the end of their journey, and “death” could be cylon death.

Thanks for the precise text of Grampa Goo’s oracle. I would say that the plain sense is that “they” = “the human race,” but of course, as many on the podcast on the boards have pointed out, the hybrids’ speeches needn’t necessarily be interpreted by plain sense.

The herald and harbinger part seem similar to ancient Hebrew poetic parallelism. “Herald” is parallel and roughly synonymous to “harbinger,” and so I would guess we are supposed to take “apocalypse” as parallel and roughly synonymous to “death,” although, as I’ve said before, “apocalypse” in a literary sense simply means “unveiling” or – ta da - “revelation.”

I suppose it is still a mystery…

Wow, did you not read when it was said where this came from before? Hope that wasn’t going to keep you up all night because you missed it the other two times :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s my take on that. “End” is another word for “Ass” (sorry Barb!). Earth (or “Erf”) is pretty much a big hunk of ASS. So in effect Kara led humanity to its “end”. So say we all. Life sucks, wear a helmet:eek:

I guess my newest interpretation is that Kara will lead humanity to its ‘end’ which is finding Earth/the Promised Land. The route by which she will take them there is via peace with the cylon faction and destruction of cylon resurrection capabilities, which to GooDaddy would be the bringing of the cylon apocalypse and the harbinger of death. In this interpretation the they cans still refer solely to humans and there is no death contradiction…

You’re right. I should have thanked everyone who answered “Serenity”. I chose to single out bkitty only because she said it like it was a fact. (no “I think”, no “probably”), so I knew I could rest easy.

Of course today I feel compelled to dig out the movie and go watch that scene.

I was only certain because I was at the Can’t Stop Serenity viewing Sunday nite! Fresh memory- smells good!

Sorry. I didn’t mean to become the quote police.

As she’s unplugged The Hyrid in Faith grabs Kara and lucidly says: “Thus will it come to pass. A dying leader will know the truth of the Opera House. The missing Three will give you the Five who come from the home of the Thirteenth. You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end. End of Line.”

The First Hybrid, Grandpa Goo, who seems to be the most coherent of all the hybrids, tells Kendra: “Kara Thrace will lead the human race to its end. She is the herald of the apocalypse, the harbinger of death. They must not follow her.”

My take on the differences was that Grandpa Goo was more lucid, speaking in full sentences and able to communicate more information. But it could also be a retcon.

Okay, there was something about a thread about the Larry T-shirt and where is hand was placed? I can’t find this…

There’s a link at he bottom of the page for the GWC Store. You can see the shirt design there.

Now that I look at it, Larry’s hand does appear to be somewhat strategically placed and ‘cupped’. Nice job, Sean.

ordered mine yesterday–wonder how that’s gonna play working at an elementary school over the summer

I have to wait for payday to order mine…sigh. I can’t wait!

You will be remembered fondly by about half of your students.

I’m only halfway thru the thread, so perhaps this topic has been laid to rest already, but…I called myself a Trekker in high school in a feeble attempt to escape persecution as a Trekkie. I never heard “Trekker” until TNG came out, and since I wasn’t the obsessive fan type, I latched onto the new word. I had no idea it had passed out of vogue, but it was kind of a stupid word, anyway.

So glad I’d set my drink down before seeing that.

I was looking for the comment threads Audra mentioned.

Here maybe ?
