GWC Fantasy Football League

You know now that you said that, the week it happens will be the week the rest of your lineup under-performs…

It looks like it was an especially rough week for a lot of people.

Screw you. d:

I’m having my best week of the season!!

I just need to win the rest of the season to break even at 7-7. Sad, but that’s my goal.

I look back on some of my comeback seasons the fondest. I went 0-6 in my own league the first year I ran it and finished 5-8. I felt pretty proud about sticking it out and staying involved and hopefully ruining some playoff runs.

I knew I needed some kind of miracle to win this week with monstrous Frank Gore churning up the Cardinals, and then he broke his durn hip. I’m not happy a workhorse, tough guy got sidelined at all, but I was happy when Fitzgerald’s touchdown was out of bounds.

This next week is do or die week. Boys from the Dwarf are a game up on me after another win last week. The last playoff spot is within my grasp. I have to beat a very good team, and then win again the week after. And then, ideally, the last two weeks. Let’s do this.

I feel like every season I get to learn a big new lesson about Fantasy Football. I know this season isn’t over yet, but the lesson is plain to see. Whether you owned Ryan Mathews or Mike Tolbert, CJ Spiller or Fred Jackson, or any other mix of hot-shot rookie and underrated incumbent, the lesson is this:

Rookies are unproven. Do not go all-in on rookies. Some will surprise you (like Mike Williams of Tampa or Dez Bryant in Dallas), but most will disappoint you. Do not turn a cold shoulder to veterans who have been in the system for years and know the team, because they are the proven commodity.

I learned this lesson more in my other league than this one (where I dropped Mike Tolbert but did get Fred Jackson recently), but I’m sure most of us have been enticed by the Next Big Thing and gotten burned at some point this year.

I knew I could either go for the recently promoted Brian Westbrook or I could hopefully find a real solution to my defensive woes. Went for the latter. I see Andy got Wesbtrook.

I really want to beat Talos today. It’s obscene how many points Vick can put up. Got a lot of work ahead to reach my goal.

Happy Game Day friends!

Bring it on!! Hulkamania pose

Oh. BTW. You’ll probably get your wish. My supporting cast is asleep, again.

I just took a gander at the standings. It’s possible we’ll have a 4 way tie at 8-6 for 4th place.

THAT’D BE INSANE

It’s been an insane season you have to admit.

When I left for my run, we were close, and then two hours later, you had me. It’s crazy how things can change all day long back and forth.

Do we do playoffs? HubAZ & BrettAZ are in playoffs now.

Wow! You’re right. The rest of your team did not show up. Dang. After Rogers and Jennings, you got nothing. That sux.

Personally, I was surprised Jackson did as well as he did. He has been a bust all year. I hope he can rally through the playoffs for me.

Week 15/16

Ouch. My QBs made 1 and 5 points respectively. But, I do have the 5 point qb in my lineup for all that helps. My 7-7 dreams are all but gone.

Crossing my fingers. If I can beat the Boys tonight I’m in control of my playoff destiny.

Kyle Orton laid a giant egg, but Foster, Wayne, and McCoy have carried me well.

I don’t know what a guy has to do to get a few points out of DEF, though. I’m going to calculate my total defensive points, week by week, at the end of the year. I bet it’s less than 30 points.

DEF is weird. In another league I’m in, we chose individual defensive players. It avoids all eggs in one basket, so to speak. We could discuss trying it next year. Maybe create a poll.

I like it the way it is currently. Having to become familiar with even more players in a league as deep as ours would be a bit much for me.

My defense scored like a QB, TE, or RB/WR should have scored this week, while the others scored like a defense would normally. I don’t really have a problem except putting under performing players in my line up.

My butt is gonna be sore all week from the whupping I received. But, at least I have peace of mind knowing I’d still have lost even if I had made optimal choices. sigh I can’t even break even this season now…

Edit: I take that back. I’m against another 5-8 owner. I think I can get into it for one more week…
