Green Lantern Movie

Still a ways off, but ran across some pretty sweet concept art…and the Guardians seem a little…intense…

And Sinestro doesn’t seem like someoen to mess with either… (course he rarely is…)

And straighten up ya Poozers…it’s Kilowog

The Guardian (I’m guessing Ganthet, Long hair on a Guardian always = Ganthet in my head) looks OK, a bit too tall maybe?

Sinestro looks terrible, like he’s been dipped in slime, he should look very prim and proper no matter what, control freaks don’t usually like looking like Swamp Thing.

Kilowog looks like Kilowog, except he’s not wearing a bright shirt and sandals :frowning:

I know what you mean, but I think it actually works better this way.

Comics can do a kind of shorthand that you can’t do in movies (excepting possibly animated ones.)

Blake Lively has been cast as Carol Ferris. Who is Carol Ferris, you ask?

She’s also Star Sapphire in Green Lantern

She’s the one on the left in that photo, right?

Hearing the oath out loud gives me chills. I’m so glad Green Lantern is getting made into a movie. The Green Lantern comics have been top notch quality reading for like four years straight now.

the GL trailer - albeit subtitled

i still can’t picture him as the green lantern, or a test pilot for that matter…

Apple’s got a nice trailer up:

http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/greenlantern/

Looks like a B-grade comic book movie. That’s not a bad thing. Daredevil was a good, solid, B-grade comic book movie.

I’m super pump for this movie!!! Can’t wait to see it. My only concern is that the CGI seem a bit flat but there is still time to fix that.
Looks like they understood how to differentiate that one from they others in the Superhero genre. It’s not the next Dark Knight but it could be the next Iron Man.
AAAAAHHHHHHH (sean scream)

Ugh! I dislike apple trailers because I always have to relearn how to DL the trailers without installing Quicktime… d:

well, i’ve watched the trailer in glorious 1080p about 30 times so far tonight… i have to say OVERALL i liked it.
For those of you that haven’t seen it yet, here it is - http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/greenlantern/

Quick dissection of it from a die hard GL fan for ya

Pros:

  1. With Reynolds as Hal, it looks liked they’ve added in a bit more comedy (also a con)
  2. Details, i was almost impressed that they have him wearing his ring on the middle finger, SOOO many people get that wrong even/especially costumers
  3. the Charger! come on, that’s definitely Hal!
  4. Nod to Star Sapphire on Carol’s helmet
  5. CGI (also a major Con) Hal’s punch made me believe! and the space flight scene was pretty cool
  6. a buddy of mine made the ring and lantern  (no joke)
  7. I wonder if that was Cowgirl or Arisia in bed with him at the start of the trailer cause that would be awesome if it was one of them?!
  8. Abin Sur - enough said
  9. Hector Hammond - i was suprisingly shocked to see he didn’t look cgi and was believable to me… that made me very happy

Cons:

  1. CGI - They have plenty of time to fix this. The mask when it was total cgi (see last clip in trailer) was absolutly horrendous. That has to be fixed. I wasn’t convinced on all of the Oa scenes either though i’d like to add there are some scenes where ryan is wearing a real mask (not all cgi) and those scenes the mask looks fine to me
  2. Tomar Re - the cgi of him was fine, i just really disliked the fishy look they went for… yes, he’s a fish, but he should be a chicken looking fish, not a fishy looking fish
  3. Suit (back to cgi) i understand what they are going for in the suit look and i’m ok with it, but (again with the end sequence) they made reynolds look completely animated with his huffy chest and Hal was NEVER that built… lol
  4. Aliens - i’m not sure i like the direction they went with a lot of them, but hopefully it’ll be ok.

That’s just my first thoughts, i’m happy to go into more details if anyone wants to discuss!

Get Jdownloader and it will do it for ya

I think your list is good. Most of the point are pretty much in my frame of mind to.
I’m not a huge GL fan but enough to recognize most of the people. The green ‘‘Fist’’ look awesome and that what I was the most afraid of at first but Oha was just ok. Don’t get me wrong, I like the design but the effect look like the Gungan palace.
I will respectfully disagree with the Aliens, I love the way they went with them, maybe a bit colorful but that’s pretty much it. They seem to have given the ‘‘real’’ spin to it and I’m all for it, they look way across the board from the ones in MIB and that is going to help in my suspension of disbelief.

Your friend design the Ring AWESOME is like the Hephaestus of the GL universe. You are rooming with Gods my friend.

WB is really betting on this film. The hope is that after Harry Potter is over they can make 1 or 2 DC comics movie a year that make HP-level cash. Green Lantern is the first post-HP movie with more in development (including the 3rd Dark Knight movie)

And don’t forget the Superman reboot, re-imagined thing from Zack Snyder. DC is finally starting to catch up with Marvel.

One can hope. I rooting for DC to catch up. Marvel has X-men, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, and Hulk which didn’t do so well. Thor and Captain America coming too. DC only has Superman and Batman… But, there’s a Justice League movie coming (last I heard), and Wonder Woman up coming.

Wait, DC can’t catch up… Crap…

I think DC’s cast of heroes is generally nto as good as Marvel’s but we shall see. We’ve got some movies coming up now that really go to the mythological and science fiction extremes more than the movies that have already been made. With Spider-Man being rebooted and a giant ensemble pic looming ahead, the enxt few years will determine if comic book films are here to stay or just a wave.

Lucky for us all that Dark Knight Rising is going to hit, because that’s a guaranteed smash.

I’m pretty much onboard with uubergeek’s list. Color me cautiously hopeful.
