Giant X-Wing Rocket

Best. Model. Rocket. EVAH!

Twenty-one foot long replica of an X-Wing. Four M Motors. Wings that will open into attack position in flight. Built-in R2 unit.

That’s fraking sweet!

I don’t know why, but I must have one of those. Oh yes, it will be mine!

That is SOOOO Cool.

Pike, I hope you let us know if there are pictures or video from the launch.

I went to the Polecat Aerospace website and they had more details on the location of the launch: Plaster City, CA. A nice touch? Plaster City is located in Imperial County.

That is absolutely awesome ! You realize that if they try to fly this beautiful labor of love it’s doubtless going to end up in 5000 smoking pieces. I’d feel better not seeing the “after” pictures, thanks !! Unless it survives, then I suggest we all send these dudes a few items from the GWC Store as a thank you for their hard work. I’ll chip in !

How about having spoiler tags around the pictures if it does blast apart?
Because I would love to see the pictures either way.

That is only a few hours from where I live… so I may have to cruise down there and get a front row seat…

Any thoughts about a GWC meetup in Plaster City the day of the launch?

OK OK !! I am just remembering my Estes model rocket days, and the 'chute failures that doomed many a rocket to a quick plummet into oblivion. I suppose I will HAVE to look at the results, whatever they are. But in any event, what a great job those folks did !!

They had the launch. Let’s just say that the result was spectacular.

Boy…they need a spoiler tag for the title of that video…but that was so very, very cool.

That was fracking RAD!!!

I am very disappointed that I couldn’t make it down there for that. I wish they would have publicized the launch time… If I known they were waiting until 6 I would have headed down there…

Tis better to have launched, and lost, than to have never launched at all.

What a glorious experience and memory those involved have though, building and actually flying an x-wing fighter!! And what a great thing that we could all share in that feeling a little bit. This is why I love this site.

I completely agree.
I give it two days before someone adds a swooping TIE fighter to it.
I
WANT
ONE
it says a boy can fit in it…I WANNA RIDE

…even if it did bow up

Oh, The Humanity!!!

That was so cool, maybe the next try should be a viper

A Viper wouldn’t have those large wings that would tear apart, so it might actually work better.

Actually, yeah. I think the “flaw” with the XWing design was that they wanted the wings (which mounted the motors) ot expand during flight.

A viper wouldn’t have that issue, so it probably would have worked.

Man that was sweet. Some ion bolts and a tie fighter and I would have sworn that thing was shot down it broke up just like they do in the movies. ROCK!!!

That was awesome! Someone needs to match it up with the “John Williams Star Wars bad guy ship explosion” cue (yes, that’s the name of it) that they play when the Death Star and Jabba’s sail barge blows up.
