Wolverines for you sir!
I was looking forward to a bike ride this afternoon, but the 30mph north wind changed my mind. I’m gonna head to the gym. Gotta get back into that swing sometime.
managed to run 3 miles tonight! also had a healthy eating day, can feel the momentum building! RAWR!!!
Way to kick some butt Darth_Revan_Rules!!!
Momentum heading into the holiday season is awesome!!!
Managed to get to bed an hour early on monday so I could sneak into the gym an extra 30 min early and blast out an entire hour of cardio as a warm up before lifting.
By the way, @keirhansen asked for my workout plan a couple weeks ago on twitter, so I ended up PDF’ing a copy. If anyone wants a copy I’d be happy to send one out - just kick me your email by Msg’ing me here on the forums or DM’ing me on twitter (For some reason, my brain thinks “Dungeon Mastering” me…)
And finally, I just got around to listening to the Spaksgiving cast, and I want to give a huge shout out to Chuck and Audra for including the stories about their trainer and personal fitness journey in the cast. Crue, as always, thanks for being an inspiration.
Go and bring the Wolverines gang, and remember, “Pain is just weakness leaving your body”
(unless you’re actually hurt)
If you’ve noticed a lack of foodstuffs around you recently, it’s because I have eaten everything… except a bunch of peanut butter. One day at a time. Workout routine is going steady, back is holding up, knock on wood… Keep up the great work, everyone!
I’ve just joined GWC, supposedly to find out if anyone knows where I can watch Corner Gas in the UK after hearing about it on Eff This Week. It’s my first time on the forums and having listened to Eff This Week during my daily cycle ride as part of a new lifestyle regime to get fit and healthy… my eyes were drawn to this forum area. As in: huh, so I’m not the only person trying to do this healthy lifestyle thing.
I heard lots of “the GWC forum members were there for me” mentions during the 300th GWC podcast. I never expected I’d get a bit of that feeling on my first visit here… but I did! I am not alone… I’m not the only geek trying to get fit and healthy. I feel better already!
Good luck to everyone else trying it. And thanks to the GWC 'casters who keep me company during my cycle rides!
Oh and if anyone wants to talk about cycle gadgets… I’m your man. I have my phone mounted on my bike handle bars for GPS maps and recording my route, and charge it while riding using a battery and USB converter setup from a hub dynamo. And my rear light is a LED strip that whooshes left/right like Knight Rider.
Dinner party last night and left overs today… not the healthiest food. But I did make sure I got the exercise in despite the hangover. And enjoyed learning about the awesome podcasting system Chuck and Juan have set up.
Welcome to the par-tay. There will be sugar-free punch and gluten free paaaah served shortly.
Heya mtg101 - welcome!!
If you’re looking for a fellow cyclist, check out Edoz and his sweet custom rides!
We’re all here for ya buddy no matter what your fitness goals are!
After a weekend of indulgnce that included 2 b-day parties and the company xmas party, I went fracking hard this morning. 40 min HIIT on the elliptical with 1-min ‘stiking’ intervals throghout, 15 min of abs (hanging leg lifts, s|s with stwisting swiss-ball crunches, s|s with weighted crunches for 4 cycles), and shoulders! Decided to more than double the weight on one lift today, and BOOM, nailed it (albeit for only 8 reps x 4, with a bit of a struggle).
I find Monday’s are the hardest day to get out of bed to hit the gym for. My strategy: I’ve put my favorite body part on my least fave’ day of the week, so if I skip it, I miss working shoulders. Yup, another stupid trick to play on your brain, 'cause nothing says you can’t simply work that body part the next day )
Let’s keep our fitness momentum heading into turkey, shortbread and fruitcake season. WOLVERINES!
Welcome mtg101, and tell me more about your dynamo hub usb setup.
Welcome, mtg101. I think you can find all the episodes of Corner Gas on youtube.
So I tried something new at the gym today, I did cable crossovers for my chest and IT WAS HARD! I was down to 20lbs just so I could keep everything stable and shake around too much. I think I even found a new muscle in there somewhere. Frakkin OUCH!
So I can! Thanks.
Wow… keeping up the exercise during the Christmas period with lots of late nights and drinking isn’t easy! So far I’ve kept to my daily cycle ride (if I don’t do it every day… I find excuses to not do it this day, and then not that day, and before you know it… I’ve got an excuse for every day).
Anyway the daily cycle has managed to stop me putting on weight this week, despite office parties, cheese markets with free samples, and various other opportunities for indulgence. Trying to lose weight over the next couple of weeks is just asking for failure and being anti-social… but I’m going to try and keep up the daily exercise to minimize its effect. That’s got to be better for me than what I did last year: smoked 30 cigs a day and didn’t do any exercise at all…
Holidays are hard and there’s a lot of not-so-good-for-you food out there, but I’m not going to avoid them. But I am going to try to keep from going overboard, like having only one piece of pie instead of two. I will keep up with my workout routine, and this year I’m probably going to try and include some extra cardio.
There’s a store near my home where they offer pre-made meals that are low-cal, low-fat, and I think I’m going to sign up for it for a month or so. Trying to cook on my own has been pretty slow going, I think I need a jump start. But I’m still going to be trying out healthy recipes when I can.
Are any of you Wolverines coming to the meetup? Let’s workout together!
I’m planning on coming to the meetup, and I’ll almost certainly have a bike with me. I have a few friends in the Dallas area that I’ll probably hit up for a mountain bike ride.
well I haven’t been able to keep up the exercise with work getting busy and me working 9-10 hour days and now even half day Saturdays all the standing has sucked the energy from me
I have other than a few days been able to keep up eating healthy, and tonight after dinner while I didn’t run on the treadmill I did walk a mile and a half so it’s better than nothing!
That would be great to find a place to get a workout in during the meetup. Maybe we could get a weekend pass to a gym up there. I’m in!
It’s always possible to get passes for 24 hr, and there are lots of them around the area.
I’d probably be up for a group trip to the gym. It depends a lot on the weather and the schedule at the velodrome in Frisco. Is the meetup venue in downtown Dallas?
