Hey hon, I know this guy must be king DB if he can rattle your beautiful disposition, but I am not following what it means that he mows you down…during working out? In the parking lot with his car? xo
We have our bootcamp outdoors at Balboa Park west. She was a dick during sprints. A classmate overheard me grumbling to the hub and told us the jerk gave her a flat tire during walking lunges w/no apology or notice, either. We all agreed. She’s a dick.
Yesterday, both the hub and I had a super crappy day. Guess who ended up stationed across from me? The hub, knowing my temper, warned the class about the gopher holes near us and picked up his cone and mine and moved them to the other side of the group! If I wasn’t so surly, I’d have guffawed! He is the most ossim of ossim mates.
Imagine my joy when our resident sport Suzy dusted her mug on last night’s sprints! Ours is a fun and supportive group, so my cheers were not unwarranted, if a little loud.
Still gonna have my elbows out when she’s around, though. I don’t like her and I do not trust that she has any sense of common decency or manners.
Sigh. I truly loathe negativity.
Just finished the 21 day Crush It!
It felt like today’s was the most brutal- I can hardly lift my arms.
low impact cardio the rest of the week.
#wolverines!!
way to go bkitty!
haven’t checked in for a while so here’s my status
had a good week the week before last, then came down with the flu and ended up throwing up a good 8 times in one night, so even though I didn’t exercise last week I didn’t really have much of an appetite at all during the week still so I didn’t have any real bad eating days
didn’t exercise tonight but am planning on doing something tomorrow!
I’ve been pretty bad about going to the gym lately, but I’ve been riding a lot. 2-3 hr mountain bike rides about 5 times a week. I guess it’s something.
Went to the gym yesterday to do day 1 chest and it felt good to be back. The soreness that I felt there felt famliar and I look forward to making progress.
So my routine yesterday was the following:
Incline chest press - 4x12 @ 16kg
Bent over dumb bell row - 4x12 @ 14kg
Rear delt machine - 3x12 @ 55kg
Handstand pushups - 25 (2/3rds of the way down, enough so that my arms were bent)
Good Mornings - 312 @ naked barbell
I also managed to do a run at 5.30 in the morning where I had planned to do 3 miles. I’m currently on week 9 of the couch to 5k plan, but I could only manage two miles due to breathing problems. My time for 3 miles is around the 30.40 second mark. I tend to do 10 minute miles so I like to think that I’m average. I would like to get faster though.
I’m looking to get a kettlebell for xmas so I can do those related exercises. It should be good. We’ve spent quite a bit on son but I’m looking forward to seeing his face for his first xmas where he actually knows that there is an event. He’s 2 and 5 months old.
Talking about son, he loves to play football and he loves to do headstands on the chair and roly poly on the floor.
Still hovering at the 210-213 mark but now that I’m going back to weighted exercises, I believe that the weight will come back down and I’ll get back to being more “toned” as they say. Went to get down to 13 stones and then work on buffing up and developing a nice butt, shoulders, arms and chest. I will be a greek god (nearly typed dog :)).
Today is leg day so I’ll be doing squats, lunges, glute raises and step ups among others. Still fitting in the smaller clothes, (medium shirts, size 16 shirts, size 36 trousers), it feels good to still be in those sizes.
That’s awesome…the body is still getting a ton of exercise, so its all good.
Legs today, empty gym so its all good
Routine
Deadlift - 22kg dumbells in each hand - 48
Chest Supported Step Ups (up to bench) - 22kg - 210 and then 16kg - 210
Hip Thrusts - 22kg @ 312
Goblet Squats - 22kg @ 2*15
hey gang just a simple check in here
while the exercise is still a struggle, work has just been beatin’ the crap out of my body, I am happy to report I’ve had a very solid healthy eating week so far, basically hoping to get back on the eating healthy bandwagon and hope the exercise will follow
Well exercise and diet is going good, I’m maintaining around the 1.2k and the 1.5k that was outlined by an online trainer that I’m a forum member of. I’m also doing 2.5 mile runs in the morning, generally every other day. I’m working towards the 3 mile mark and I seem to be doing the 2.5 miles in 25 minutes, so it looks like I’m doing 10 minute miles, which for me is pretty good.
I’m also going swimming in the mornings and am working my way up from doing 20 lengths and adding 2 lengths every time I go. I plan to be able to swim a mile in one go. Need to work on my breathing (esp on my frontcrawl, I wonder if my slightly big swimming trunks are slowing me down).
In the gym, I’m doing well, I’m progressing up through the weights, although I’m having to use the pulldown machine (the one where you can move the handle to the top for triceps or at the bottom for biceps and use it for deadlifts.
Still progressing through the loose dumbells and working my way up to doing the whole sets with 26kg. They are still a bit heavy. The irony is that if I could probably bench press 52kg quite easy but because the load is more individualised, it’s harder.
Also I’m doing dumbell swings, I’'ve put kettlebells on my wish list, just have to see if I get them. In terms of clothes, things are still fitting me nicely, I’ve managed to use one more notch on my belt from using the 3rd hole to the 4th. I can use the 5th but its a bit tight. For the current belt that I’m using, I had to buy a medium, I’m in medium shirts and jumpers and things are looking good.
I will look at my cardio routine and see about adding burpees. Do they really get you fit quick?
Need to work on my forearms and triceps to really beef out my arms. Back feels nice and sore and my legs are getting more defined but I still need to build them up. It is wierd to think that I was 20 stone about a year and a half ago.
Want to look at some martial art classes in the area, see what they’ve got.
BishopMontanha, Edoz, Darth_Revan_Rules, bkitty, dxf, Starbuccaneer, Amberite, Nike, Reg, Kirokai, Xero1, Madamruppy: Thank you. You all continue to inspire me in so many ways. I appreciate your willingness to share your progress, both good and bad. It is a reminder that this isn’t a short term goal, but a life long choice. You know what the thing is? This is all your fault. Yes, I am talking to you. You. If you read this thread and contribute to it my success is because of you. In three short months I have lost nearly 30 pounds, but more importantly I have learned how to eat better and make smarter choices. I eat what I want. I drink when I want. I have a better balance tho, now eating breakfast, having an afternoon snack.
I am now floating between 165 and 170. I met with a trainer to do an assessment, results will be in tomorrow but looks good. She is recommending I can start to pull back on the cardio and focus more on lifting as I don’t need to lose more. She is outlining a whole routine to work my arms, core and back with minimum legs as that is the primary source of my cardio. Bad news is that I will have less time on the elliptical to watch Doctor Who, guess I will have to start listening to my backlog of podcasts!
I’m writing this business story, talking to people about the dynamics of, as the Simpsons called it, successmanship. Anyhow, a couple people made the point that one essential key success is this: being allowed to fail. Sometimes you’re going to get off-track. The important thing is that you keep at it. So keep at it.
Off work and about to head out on the mountain bike. One of these days I’ll get back to the gym, but I’d much rather get some dirt on my tires tonight:)
Our dojo had our karate banquet on november 13 and I was promted to yellow belt! Go me!
My husband, who was born with spina bifida but is not in a wheel chair, was promoted to green wiht black stripe.
Our awesome super hero-esque daughter was promoted to second brown and recieved a most dedicated student and assistant of the year awards.
The family that trains in karate together are not to be messed with.
Hooray for you, Solai!
That is a pretty amazing 3 month transformation. And good on you for eating breakfast.
As I have recently learned the hard way–listen to your body as well as your trainer when beefing up your upper body workouts. Learn to tell the difference between muscle-tearing/building pain and sprains, joint pains, bone pains, etc. And if you need a day off, take it. If you catch up on podcasts, I hear that the Basil Rathbone BBC Sherlock Holmes radio plays are excellent and they’re on audible.
Recovery is as important as the workout itself. Don’t skimp on proper diet or sleep, you’re shooting yourself in the foot if you do.
We’re here for you Solai, and good luck with lifting. I find it harder than cardio because when I’m on the elliptical I can zone out on the music, but when I’m lifting weights I am hyper-aware of the time. But lately I’m feeling more motivated about it, I enjoy feeling stronger and being able to lift more than I did when I first started.
I’m feeling a little down on myself because I slept through my weight lifting class yesterday. I just didn’t get out of bed when I could have. On the plus side I made a recipe from the Healthy Family Cookbook, balsamic glazed salmon, which turned out pretty good. December is going to be my month for eating healthy—but still delicious!—food.
I’ve been working out fairly consistantly for more than a year but my diet hasn’t really changed and I’m starting to feel very frustrated with myself because of it. I feel like I’m sabotaging myself every time I order pizza or go out for Chinese.
The family that trains in karate together are not to be messed with.
zen mom
Congratulations zen mom! My brother and I used to take karate and even though it was a pain in the ass at the time I look back on it with fondness. I’m thinking of taking back up again someday as a part of my exercize thing.
I’m looking to get a kettlebell for xmas so I can do those related exercises.
BishopMontanha
I’ve been wondering about the kettlebell, let me know how it goes because I hear that for some people it causes a lot of soreness.
So, my question is: Am I over-reacting? I really hope so. I loathe the negativity my experience tonight has brought. And I don’t know if I can be as diplomatic as I’d like if douchebag does it again. frak.
bkitty
Yeah, this is also my fear. Sometimes when someone has said or done something that makes me angry I wonder if I’m overreacting. If possible I like to run it by someone who has an outside perspective, but I’d trust your instincts. This dick you’re dealing with probably doesn’t even realize that she’s a dick. But remember that this person is disliked by bkitty, so I feel truly sorry for her.
It’s been getting colder, darker earlier, the end of the semester crush is upon us all. I’ve lost weight but from stress rather than through my workouts, which have petered out since Thanksgiving, but that I hope to kick-start this week with a yoga class and did I mention, the end of the semester? Both spouse and I are struggling to stay active this time of year, sadly.
In my household I try to keep some healthy “oh crap I need to eat but don’t feel like doing crap” food around. Mostly I accomplish this by freezing portions of the aforementioned delicious food and reheating it instead of getting take-out. Also, I make my own pizza, which is much more delicious and I know exactly what’s gone into everything. If I get something pre-made to keep around (e.g. mac and cheese (Annie’s!) or frozen food) I try to go the natural and organic route, even though I know I’d be eating more healthily if I were just to reheat what I made myself.
I know I’m not the only GWCer who loves cooking and tends to cook fairly healthy foods (though I admit today’s pan sauce has butter in it. because it’s delicious.), so there are lots of us out there happy to help with suggestions. And I always loved it when someone (ahem, Aset) would say, I have these ingredients, what can I make? Good times.
You can doooo eeeet!!
I don’t know about the rapidity of their effect, but they sure get my blood going and involve all my parts! lol!
That 10 minute challenge is a killer. Gets in 100+ of them in, too. 10 per minute using the rest of the minute as a rest till you get to the last go-round and get in as many as you can for the full minute. This is when I stagger away for a quiet place to die.
Go Solai!! So happy for and proud of you!
I really need to focus on my weight loss. Under all this fluffy is some real muscle- I swear! I was hanging with friends when I leaned back on my car with my hands to cushion my bum and warm them on the hood and was surprised to find a bum of IRON!! My friends laughed at the look on my face so I had to tell them about it- then we were all cracking up! What a nice surprise!
Go Edoz! I need to pump up my bike tires and ride it in to work like I told myself I would.
I’m on your team for the zombie apocalypse. Hey- you’ll need a straggler to keep them busy while you make your getaway!
DXF- I’ve got that ‘fail’ thing down! I expect to skyrocket to success any day now!
I’d listen to the frakkin phonebook if Basil Rathbone read it! Thanks for the suggest!
Yeah, it’s verified so I don’t doubt myself anymore on this one. I tend to look for the blame in myself and then analyze it to death and often miss my window to nip things in the bud. I’m prepared now, so I’ll handle it better if there’s a next time. Or at least ‘handle’ it- lol!
Oh yes! I love to cook, and the food I make is always healthier than anything else we could get. I use my crockpot a LOT since my schedule sux to get dinner ready in a decent amount of time. And I often play the ‘here’s what I have to work with’ game. It helps to have a lot of produce on hand. I’m very lucky to live so close to healthy markets that are supplied locally.
I’ve been teaching Puddytat how to pick her produce and have been ramping up her experiences in the kitchen. She loves wearing her apron! I’d like to make her one special if I can find a sewing machine (mine broke).
I’d really like to take a cooking class- I know there’s a gang of stuff I could learn!
Just so you guys know, this is the first thread I come to when I cruise the forums. You all have gotten me thru some times where I just want to give it up and potato it. Thanks to you and your non-stop inspiration I’ve kept on. I now use my trainer’s name as a cuss word- lol! He’s a lovely guy, but it’s so much fun to grit his name through my teeth when I have to climb stairs or raise my arm up from my side.
So thanks! I’ll keep reading! And trying! And fwump
Hello Wolverines! I haven’t posted here in a bit, but I wanted to let you know how much I’m enjoying reading about your successes (and even failures). It’s normal to try, make it, backslide, hell, even outright fail once in awhile. The important thing is to get back into the game afterwards and keep kicking ass.
I just came off of a Thanksgiving flu thing and hadn’t hit the gym in several days. And you know how that goes…the longer you stay away, the harder it gets to go back! Well, for some reason I woke up this AM at 4:30. Wide awake, out of bed. What to do? Lady D still fast asleep, I made coffee and checked out Twitter, did some online talking with GWC friends, and jumped on the Forum. And the Fitness Club Thread. You ladies and gents inspired the hell out of me (again). I threw on some gym clothes and headed out to 24 Hr Fitness, and spent the next hour and a half running and throwing a basketball (once in awhile it actually went into the hoop, even!)
You got me revved up with your own stories here. So thanks! And I enjoyed going in the early AM so much I plan on doing it again tomorrow.
Wolverines. Indeed!
