"Fitness Club" Thread

Came close to "not tonight"ing my time on the elliptical today, but I didn’t.

Tomorrow’s a Tuesday, so no time, but it’ll only be the second day I miss since I got the elliptical.

hey Wolverines!

I was wondering if anyone who uses a trainer could ask a question for me

if in the same routine doing the 8-10 reps for bulk and the 12-16 for lean method, if you do multiple exercises working the same muscle but do some in the 8-10 and some with the 12-16 rule am I just working against myself by not picking one philosophy and sticking with it?

So I have put almost all my regular work pants in the pile for S to start taking in for me. Today I wore a skirt (not a frequent occurrence for me) and it flopped embarassingly around all day and didn’t stay put. She’s going to have to get to work or I’ll have to wear a bathing suit to work next week.

So that’s all good! Even though I somehow gained a pound this week.

Only tangentially related to fitness, but I need help with something. I have had a bad headache since Saturday afternoon. It’s starting to be unbearable. I’ve tried ibuprofen, naproxen, neck massage, stretching, a 13 mile bike ride and remembering to wear my mouth guard so I don’t grind my teeth (sexy, I know). Nothing has worked. I still have this awful headache. Ideas?

I used to get bad headaches after working out and it used to really discourage me from going to the gym. I’m not sure if I got them because I was overheated, but I found that making sure that I drink a lot of water and keeping cool really helps. It might not be an option at your gym, but I always set up a fan nearby when I’m on the elliptical, and if I can’t do that then I use a cool washcloth.

A headache can signal dehydration. Most people (myself included) don’t drink enough water. Not drinking enough water can also make the body think it needs to retain extra, thus making you stay heavier.

@Nike
Also not enough water can lead to the problem i just got over. Kidney Stones. NOT. FUN.

So drink more water.

On an unrelated note. 90 minute spinning class tonight. All jumps and sprints (sitting and standing) I want to die, but i had to burn off like 10 million calories so there is that.

Keep it up wolverines, you are all a great motivation to me.

Dehydration is pretty much the one thing that is not even a possibility. I drink at least 100 ounces of water a day. Plus 2 cups of coffee in the morning. However, y’all are right. Hydration is important!

I just realized, stupidly, that my problem very well could be the steroid shot from Friday. The headache has been around almost that long. Huh.

Well, I’ll keep drinking water and begging S for neck rubs.

Or there’s that…

Sometimes eye strain or a change in your eyesight can cause headaches. As a lifelong wearer of glasses, I seem to get headaches when my prescription needs updated. Since you work in DC, maybe you’ve been reading too much fine print.

Last week sucked for the gym, but I got back on track this week, which was extremely difficult because work was crazy with end-of-the-semester duties. I feel good about making it four times this week despite the craziness. I also resisted temptation at a work dinner where they brought chocolate cake to everyone. “None for me!” I shouted at the man.

Tomorrow the hub and I begin another 21 day Crush It bootcamp campaign.

I have my Wolverines tee The Rev made (tho I have to exchange it for a larger size- they run small) so I probably won’t get it in time for the class. :frowning:

I forsee a LOT of fwumps in my future!

xoxo my fellow fitness buddies!

Awesome! If you guys do any more mountaineering this time around please let me know and I’ll come down for it.

Every Sunday!

And here’s me in my ‘a bit too small but dammit, I’m wearing it’ Wolverines Tee!

Thank you Reverend Sean!!

I’m so tired today, and I still need to do both of my exercise times. Really don’t want this to be the first non-Tuesday I don’t use my elliptical.

Well, only doing one cycle today, but I did 20 instead of 15, so that’s something.

Too much fine print–lol. It might be. I got my eyes checked about 9 months ago but perhaps they have deteriorated more.

Sometimes you just have a crappy week for the gym, or for nutrition. You just can’t get hung up on it. Make sure you build in incentives to avoid “bad” behaviors if you feel like you need them. Money is always a good one. Glad this week went better. 4 gym sessions per week should be a source of pride!

The shirt looks great! I love that color. Note: Zazzle runs really small for women’s shirts. It’s kind of ridiculous.

Is this your third 21 day crush or your fourth? What do you do between bootcamps? I am so impressed with you and the Hub. Those things sound really intense!

Hey, it still totally counts. And building up your endurance is important!

I had a rough week nutritionally. I bought a jar of Nutella. S ate about a third of it. I spread the other two thirds over three days and many, many strawberries. It was gooooood. But it is also good that I am doing an extra workout tomorrow to spend time with a friend of mine. We are going to go walk the Crescent Trail, a hiking/walking path that runs from Georgetown in DC to Bethesda, about 12 miles away. We probably will do about 5 miles, then turn around and walk back.

On the positive side, 3 things.

  1. This will be my 4th workout this week and the first 3 all went well. I have started adding 30 extra minutes of cardio to the end of my Saturday sessions with my trainer. Now that we’re meeting at noon I can still do a warm up, full workout with her, and extra cardio and be home by 2ish with the whole day in front of me. Or get to the office at 2ish with enough hours to get sh*t done.

  2. My foot is doing better. The doctor wrapped it up really tightly to try to compress the excess fluid out of it (sorry if TMI) and it feels so much less painful! Swelling going down nicely. Hopefully in another few weeks I’ll be allowed to get back to doing some of the things currently on my fitness forbidden list.

  3. Samantha took in a pair of pants for me yesterday and I wore them today. My butt looks fab in these pants now, which had become large enough to be unflattering. Hooray!

Wow, I lost 3 pounds this week. Didn’t really alter my eating habits yet, so I expected maybe 2 pounds max.

I agree, the color looks awesome!

Secondly, this is just further proof that Zazzle hates Boobs. The guys shirts run just fine, size wise.

Possibly of interest: Action Burn, a social workout app.

ETA: it’s currently free

ok gang I need some inspiration here, after two weeks of 10 to 11 hour days I was burned out, I’m back on normal hours this week but all my motivation seems like it’s been taken from me

I ran on the treadmill Monday night but only did 4 miles (a far cry from the half marathons I was doing, and I stopped not because I was tired or out of breath but because I was going nuts being confined to the treadmill)

didn’t do anything yesterday, today got up early to try and get it done but got about a third of my way through my strength routine and just did not have the motivation to keep going

this is the same downward spiral that lead to my weight gain last year :frowning:

rawr!!! kick some bootay Bkitty!
