I’ve been sick as a dog since Thursday and have only been able to keep liquids down, so I don’t think my 4 pound loss this week is a fair reflection.
Curses! I really needed to go to the gym tomorrow but forgot about an extracurricular commitment (I’m on the board of a local organization) that I really cannot skip.
Which means that it will be be Saturday to Wednesday between workouts. Damn. This is why it is hard to work out 4 times a week.
Oh well, all I can do is push and do my best. I have a workout date on Friday and Saturday, so those will definitely happen, and if I do cardio on Wednesday I can meet my minimum exercise standard for the week.
And I can take a 20 minute walk during lunch tomorrow… at least it will be something.
In more successful news, I stared down the massive tray of catered desserts today and just ate a bell pepper. And when my stomach started grumbling and I was out of food, I borrowed some salad from a coworker, even as she ate 3 brownies. It’s the little things, right?
Well done! I had to turn down some pastries at lunch today, too. My first day of good eating and the gym went well. Now if I can do it 4 more times, I’ll get through week 1.
One day at a time, dude. One day at a time.
Once you fall into a groove, habits like working out will develop their own momentum. It won’t be effortless, but it won’t be as hard. And you’ll feel like working out… as opposed to not working out. “I don’t want to do it” will shift to “I gotta go do it, or I won’t feel right.”
Also, once you’re off the bad food for a little while – at least in my experience – your taste buds and cravings adjust. I had a couple spoons of big, greasy hamburger helper last week, and I can normally gorge on it. But it tasted GREAZY in a bad way to me.
Just came back from the gym and managed to do the workout except for the tricep push downs as it was been used so I did as many negative handstand push ups as I could before collapsing
Gym was semi empty, only 4 people there but it was 8.30ish so I imagine people are there before hand.
I did have sausages for dinner - 4 of them (peri peri flavour), 2 in a bun…Overload on the protein :)…Worked like an animal in the gym to make up for it though. The wife has got some spinach, I hear that it’s good stuff.
I’ll be doing some progress pictures tomorrow so I’ll post them for you to see.
Note: When I do overhead squats, I swear I feel a twinge by the inside leg/thigh/groin area…Not to sure if my positioning is right. I have my feet pointing outwards as it seems natural that way.
Overhead Squat - 4x12 (10kg, 15kg, 20kg, 30kg)
Arnold Press - 4x12 (14kg)
Rear Delt Raise - 4x12 (6kg)
Weighted Close Grip Push up - 4x12 (Had to do alot of stop start as it was harder than it looked)
Chin up - As many as I can do (subbed Handstand pushups)
Standing Barbell Curls - 4x12 (30kg, 30kg, 20kg, 20kg)
Tricep Pushdown - 4x12 (Did Dips on the bike racks outside the gym).
I also agree that once you start going, it is more weird when you don’t go and I deffo agree with the fact that the taste buds change. I suppose its the bodies way of repairing the assault of bad processed food. If you think about it, your body needs to have its taste buds highly tuned to detect the nasty stuff.
Star/WV - Congrats, it truely is one day at a time, does it get easier…some days it does and others its not - Just know that life isn’t going to be diet diet diet, its just a smal blip to do.
So i did just a little workout today. i had to workout at the gym in the hotel which wasnt to bad. Its a pretty nice gym for a hotel. I ran, for the first time in a long time, on a treadmill. I also did a lightish arm and chest workout today with weights.
Bicep:
25lb alternating curls 3 sets of 10.
25lb Concentration curls 3 sets of 10
Chest:
40lb Dumbbell Press 3 of 10
Triceps:
40lb Overhead Triceps Extensions
It was rather light lift. Have not lifted in a few months but it feels good to make the arms burn again. Can’t wait to rejoin the gym and start a regular lifting cycle.
Also i weighed in today and I am down to 276 down from 300+. And that was after a day of riding in a car and two meals. It feels great to shed those lbs. I still have about 90 lbs i want to loose to hit my goal weight. I really want to get down to 180 lbs. Between GWC, GWC express (Twitter) and Facebook i get lots of encouragement which helps a ton.
ack!
Brian kicked our butts last night. 30 seconds was our maximum rest period in an hour workout!
We did the 10 minute burpee challenge, buncha planks, lunges across the field, squats, ladders (on the ground as guide to side-to-side jumpy thingy we do) push-ups galore, and tabatas up the wazoo!
I was so wiped I woke in the same position in which I fell mercifully asleep!
my Wolverines ended with a period and I could barely fwump !
took a walk today to ease my tortured flesh- lol
I can feel every muscle as I turn the steering wheel today. If I cough or sneeze or laugh my abs punch me in the junk!
on the whole, a good class!
and Jason and Katherine- way to go! I guess you CAN win friends with salad! woohoo!!
Wait wait wait. I work out and bust my ass so i dont have to eat salad. If salad had a face i would punch it. If it were a race of people i attempt genocide on it. I kinda dislike salad.
I left the house 14 hours ago but I must stop in here before fwumping into bed myself. I finally (FINALLY) got past the plateau that had been plaguing me for the past 6 weeks. I lost 2 pounds last week! Hooray!
The bad news is that my pretty new engagement ring is getting loose! I am going to have to resize it… but for now I’ll just use scotch tape
so I havent been able to do any ab activities because they all require sitting on my tailbone (see last Thursday morning’s slipping on ice and falling on my arse) but however I have found a solution!
borrowing the foam thing my dad had to sit on when he had hemerrhoid issues, did a couple test moves and it appears to keep me from putting any pressure on the tailbone
so tomorrow morning its ab time!!!
yes but thats the GOOD kind of problem to have AMIRIGHT?
way to go!
So I’d planned on getting right back into the gym after the meetup but it just didn’t happen. Tuesday was my first day back and I felt a lot more energetic. I feel bad that I didn’t go sooner, but I have a feeling this week is going to be a good week.
“I don’t want to do it” will shift to “I gotta go do it, or I won’t feel right.”
dxf
I was surprised and pleased to find out that this was true for me too after I’d been working out for a few months. I’m thankful for another reason to get me into the gym.

Cheers! Plateaus really suck, and they can be very discouraging for someone on a fitness journey. Congratulations on powering through yours.
A while ago we were talking about music that we listen to while working out, but I actually have two playlists. One is for working out at the gym and another one is to actually get me into the gym. One of my favorites is One Step At A Time and a lot of Justin Bieber songs. Don’t ask me why.
Thanks for all the encouragement, folks. Yesterday was a challenge because it was our wedding anniversary, and when the restaurant screwed up our order, to make up for it they brought over the dessert tray and offered us two free desserts. We got them to-go, and they’re haunting me from the refrigerator.
Mr. Lister, Sir, I noticed you’re using dumbbells. The workout I’m trying is Men’s Health dumbbell blast. Just thought I’d share:

Here’s the video that goes with it that seems impossible to find through google:

Yoga yesterday was great, I did a shoulder-stand for the first time in ages and it felt great! Today, not so much, but last night it was fabulous
Got to the gym all 4 days that I planned this week, and I stuck to the diet I created…except for the free dessert I got on my wedding anniversary. I also logged all my food on Lance Armstrong’s livestrong.com website. I’m off to a good start.
epic fitness fail
I’ve let everything slide, my weight is quite possibly higher than it was before i started going to wieght watchers, i really ejoyed my visit to the states but it had a fairly major negative impact on the size, I am now phaze plus 1.
My plan ot be fit and fourty is not realisable so I have a new plan now, I hope to be in a reasonable shape by next years meet up. IF y’all don’t mind i will weigh myself in the morning, then post that weight in pounds and kilogrammes.
I will continue this every sunday (as time allows) and woulda ppreciate any tips on excercise, diet or other stuff I can do to shift the load.
I’m taking inspiration from chuck and Audra, audra showed me the “before” pictures adter the live pdocast so I know it is possible to this thing, especially with you lot backing me up.

They really inspired me, too, Phaze. I’ll certainly be trying to come back here at least once a week for more inspiration. I just got through week 1 of logging food and going to the gym. I lost 1 pound according to my scale.
ok, here’s the scary news (for me)
Current Weight: 106.1 kilos, that’s a rather frightening 233.2 pounds or, in UK terms, 16 stone 10 (eek)
It’s not the heaviest I’ve ever been but as I approach 40 like a freight train it’s waaay to heavy for my own health.
Initial Goal is 100 kilos, or 15 tone 10 or 220 pounds. I am to hit this goal by the end of June.
Overall Goal is 90 kilos for now, if I can get to 85, great but 90 is a good figure and is 198 pounds.
I’ll keep ye posted on a weekly basis.

Don’t worry, phazedout, you can do this. Setbacks are a natural, so don’t let them discourage you. What’s helping me is taking things one step at a time, so first I found a gym and workout program that I like, now I’m slowly trying to get my diet under control. It’s taking a while, I started being serious about this health thing last year around May, but I’m just going to keep at it until I reach my goal.
Having to check in weekly really helps me get up and out to the gym, so it’s great you’re doing that too, keep it up!
