"Fitness Club" Thread

Dude, that is OSSIM! I think only a couple weeks ago you were building up to a 1/2 marathon. Sweet!!!

Bkitteh, congrats on finishing the Boot Camp!!! That’s an insane commitment, and it looks like you crushed it on the final day with 26 min! So OSSIMLY proud of you!

Phase, that’s awesome too dude. Let’s face it, we’re all geeks here, and combining tech with fitness is kinda what we do! We discussed this a few pages back, but without my iPod I probably wouldn’t have been able to keep up with my fitness goals over the past year. Wil Wheaton posed a sweet blog on fitness and gaming I think around a year ago. He said we should all get gaming-like achievements for different fitness goals. Kinda fun!

Was a good week diet side for me, and a decent one gym wise. Was feeling burned out on Thursday so took a mid-week rest day, and hit it hard on Friday and Saturday (and played Red Dead Redemption all Sunday). Put in a solid 40 minutes each day on elliptical, with the standard 20 minutes of high intensity intervals/shadow boxing. However, took off the 1lb wrist weights and put on the 2.5 lb weights. With the 1lb gloves it’s a brutal workout  Friday was core intervals then circuit training, and really felt the burn. Decided to end off doing dips, and managed 5 sets of 15, a new best. Saturday was a leg day in honour of skipping thursday, so Phase I hear you buddy. Plus, I pulled a couple new ab exercises from the Jan issue of Muscle & Fitness – wow, bring the pain  Well, beddi-bye time for me. Gym in 5.5 hours…

Nite all, and congrats to everyone on sticking with their diet and fitness plans, and sharing and motivating the entire community!!! We’re all kicking ass!

ps: Darth, It’s totally all muscle dude! You’re a marathon running, P90X machine

thanks for the encouragement everyone!

got through the P90X chest and back work out tonight

tomorrow is going to be TOUGH

I will be doing another half marathon, at 6.7mph speed, but upping the incline to 2.5, not sure but I might fall over dead afterwards :stuck_out_tongue:

hey phazed, if I hadn’t sold my Wii (just wasn’t playing it enough) I too would be interested in trying some of those Wii exercise things, be sure to let us know how they work out for you!

Right, so, my Sunday night weigh-in suuuucked. I was +5.4 lbs from last Sunday. Seriously. I did everything I was supposed to do. Except sleep enough. And I had huge amounts of stress. I was starting to get very discouraged. But I got on the scale when I got up tonight, and 4.8 of that is gone. Whew! I don’t know what happened, but I think I may need to not get so down on myself. It will work, I know it will. But this means my net loss so far is 8.2 lbs.

Are you tracking body fat percentage or your measurements? Sometimes that’s a better way to track when you’re building muscle. I have a friend who started doing water running and in 2 yrs has lost 3 pants sizes, but actually weighs more than she did then.

thanks for that folks, you guys amaze me, gyms don’t really work for me, I’m not confy exercicsing in front of others at my current shape and fitness level, i’m continuing with the weight watchers stuff and despite my quads killing me, managed another workout on suunday, yesterday was a rest day, along with a three hour drive, today i’ve got a three hour drive the other way and then I’ll do my workout, record my podcast and collaps in to bed!

well everyone I managed to do my half marathon, at the higher speed while upping the incline to 2.5…I think this is my limit though

my body has hit the wall, I cannot begin to say how awful I feel right now, I’m light headed, I feel like throwing up, despite still sucking down the water I’m dehydrated, and my legs are so burned out I had to crawl up my stairs after eating a tiny bit for dinner

going to go lay down and examine what my plan going forward is from here on out during tomorrow’ off night

It has been so nice to REST after that 21 day Crush.

Even better, our trainer took a week’s holiday with his family!

The sad news- he left us homework!

Here is what I would recommend for exercise this week.

Sunday REST

Suffice it to say I am not looking forward to this evening when the hub and I undergo our torture together! lol!

And I had a large fry from McDonald’s yesterday.

It was EVERYTHING I thought it would be! lol!

Today, I cut calories by splitting an iced nonfat mocha with the hub.

Back on plan now. Making Richard Simmon’s gumbo for dinner.

His recipes and Sam the Cooking Guy’s are the best investments ever!

Muscle weighs more than fat, but it’s good weight.

I’ve had a rough month. I got sick and then sicker, then I got better then I got sick again. When I finally startd feeling better I went and stabed myself in the palm of the hand while preping a meal. That also set me back. Anyway, I got my stuff in gear and have been hitting the gym this week but it feels like starting over. Today was meh, I felt slow, heavy and weak.

I am feeling a little down about it all today but i’ll get over it. There is a local 5k I want to run on April 9th. I’m not sure I will be able to run but I will be able to do run/walk intervals during it. I am going with the glass half full attitude of that is more than I could do before and I will have a faster time than the 5k I walked in December. Baby steps, but going forward.

ugh I’ve totally gone off the wagon the past two nights

attempted to run last night but had to stop after 3 minutes when the pain in my legs was screaming at me ‘STOP’

ended up going out to eat and eating greasy junk, then so far today went out for breakfast and got hangover food and for lunch bar food

ugh…going to try and get back on track for dinner and attempt to run again tomorrow

We saved up our cal budgets over the weekend and enjoyed ourselves at a BBQ joint for a friend’s bday.

Back on track and tonight we are back to boot camp. blerg. lol

engaging my core as I write this

Looks like we’ve all had some setbacks, but getting back on track is where we shine!

I’m not looking for perfection, I’m just happy to be traveling in the right direction for my future health.

I’m gonna keep on truckin’!

Heya Gang,

Well, it seems like small setbacks are a recent theme. Last week my wife was out of town dealing with a family ‘thing’, which left me with our dog. The good news, I got an extra hour-long walk in every monring. The bad news was that it meant no going to the gym before work for me, and I ate like a bit of a bachelor for dinners.

Good news though, the family thing is resolving, and my wife is back in town. Back in the gym this morning, and pushed it so hard that, well, um, it left a nasty taste in my mouth… Feel great to be back at it!

We all go through cycles, the important part is that we each have the infinite capacity to rebound, and with the encouragement of everyone on the forums, we’re all just one workout or run or hike or salad away from our fitness goals. We have an advantage over the vast majority of the other folks out there - each other!

bkitty - awesome inspiration bkitty, thanks! You’re one of the bell-weathers in this thread.

Darth - dude, if anyone out there has earned the right to cut him or herself a bit of slack, it’s you my friend. Re-read some of your old posts, you’re run more half-marathons in January than most people run in a lifetime.

Memyself - crappy with being sick, but we’re all with you on this one. Your attitude is amazing, and my money is on you making that 5-k. Take your time, heal up, then crush it

Phase - How’s it going?? Re: exercising in front of others, think of this. When I see people at the gym, I never sneer. I always think to myself - that’s freakin’ OSSIM. They’re taking control, they’re motivated, and they’re doing more than most people!

Go team GWC!

good to see you back Amberite!

Bkitty, as usual way to kick some bootay

only did 4 miles on the treadmill yesterday, was interupted by my dog with an emergency (aka ‘take me out now!!!’) and by the time he was done I could tell if I tried to start up again I was going to cramp up (stupid cold weather cools down the muscles fast)

tomorrow it’ll be time to attempt another half marathon but with no increasing any speed or incline, I just want to match what I did last Tuesday

I’m considering starting up the full P90X again but with a couple tweaks

the tweaks being instead of doing the plyometrics and kenpo x (I freaking hate the kenpo x more than anything) that I would do my runs, that way during the ‘easy’ weeks that P90X does I can use then as planned breaks from running, currently I have no planned breaks in my running I just end up going until what happened last week happens and am forced to take a rest

I’m thinking of starting this one week from today so the 7th, any thoughts?

my goal was to be at where I want to be by shorts season which is usually in May sometime here in Wisconsin, and I’m thinking that by starting that then I should finish the 90 day program right about then and be ready to just maintain what I worked to achieve by doing some mountain biking and fun outdoor physical activity when it’s warm (can’t wait to get myself a new bicylcle with the tax refund! ) along with a maybe once a week long run and one or two night a week weight routine

Phazed, Starbuccaneer, Apollomy, Memyself, Nightwing, Flik, Bishop, and anyone else that stops in here that I forgot off hand (sry!) how are you all doing?

My weekly update: -3.6 lbs for a total lost so far of 11.8 lbs.

woohoo! thanks guys!

Ossim!! I weigh in about once a month. But my major target is fitness. I was getting too strung out on the weight loss, so I dumped that cache- lol!

Still watching the intake and doing my physical activity.

We did 100 burpees in 10 minutes- 10 reps then rest the remainder of the minute. This time I kept up with the class! woohoo! But my head felt like a sprinkler system! zoinks!

The rest of the class was a brutal blur, but my recovery was much improved. the January conditioning really helped!

still want a nap, tho…

Congratulations Apollymy! From what I’ve read, that’s a great amount of weight to lose in a week.

My workout routine is up in the air because of some schedule changes at the gym where I work out, but I’m going to figure things out this week and then get locked into my new routine by Monday. I’ve said it here, so now I have to follow through.

Second goal for the month of February: cook at home more. I’m not closer to my target weight because of the junk I keep eating. I know food can be delicious and healthy so I’m going to pick five recipes and make them during the weekend.

Heya Darth - so how did the 'half go today? Doing the running sounds like a great sub for Kenpo x, esp if you’re looking at building the endurance that the running is probably developing. You’re an inspiration dude!

Way to go Apollymy!! Truly OSSIM! Do you have a goal we can cheer you on to, or just one day at a time. (Both are totally cool btw)

Nicely done bkitty! I tweeted you this morning re #10minuteburpeechallenge. I’m totally going to give that a try tomorrow! When I did martial arts, I absolutely hated burpees, but without meaning to, you tossed down the virtual gauntlet

Heya Nike - we’ll keep ya on the straight and narrow

On my front, great cardio session this morning, followed by amazing traps/lats/delts day. I actually played around with a couple new trap excercises in response to Chuck’s comment about shrugs at the start of the AI cast  I happen to love shrugs tho :stuck_out_tongue:

Amber - managed to nail that half marathon again tonight, takes a lot off my shoulders since the two previous failures were putting doubts into my mind

Apollymy - that is EPIC 3.6 in a single week is insanely good

Bkitty - I had no idea what burpees were so I had to google it, wow that looks tough! 100 though holy craaaaaap :open_mouth: way to nail it!

Nike - don’t sweat it, just find what schedule works for you and go with it, remember the only deadlines are self imposed deadlines so no need to feel hurried!

oh noes! I hate them too! but I’m glad I kept up this time!

no kiddin’. we do them 10 at a time for 10 minutes using the remainder of the minute to rest between sets. the last minute you go all out and get in as many as you can, right up to the whistle. ACK!

This last time, Brian had us follow up in extended push-up position and bang out as many as we could in one minute, then we went down to our towels for the remainder of class. fwump
