Lol, no my character name is not a secret. Just didn’t see this forum thread right away. The ratter character of mine is named: T’Lina

Caldari Caracal-class cruiser: 3.9 Million ISK
5 Heavy Missile Launcher Is: 250,000 ISK
4 Shield Hardeners: 200,000 ISK
Medium Shield Booster: 18,000 ISK
2000 Scourge Heavy Missiles: 46,000 ISK
Insurance policy for cruiser: 1.2 Million ISK
Smoking a pirate’s T2 Force Recon Ship worth 20 times more than said cruiser with four cheap frigates: Priceless.
There are some things in New Eden that T2 equipment can’t do. For everything else, there’s insurance and backup clones.
Nice
As soon as we finish moving I plan on being on a little more. Should have the Internets hooked up at the new place on Saturday.
Anybody got a good deal on advanced learning skill books, specifically Eidetic Memory?
Also implants.
Eidetic Memory is pretty much 4.5 mil everywhere, right? And beware those implants. They’re mighty easy to lose. You can snag a full set of +1s for around 1.5 mil, but the +2s and +3s are ex-pen-sive.
+2s are somewhere around 5-10 mil I think. So basically a decent cruiser
Is it just me or my affinity for gravity that always makes me feel as though I am flying vertically (up towards something)?
Lean your chair back a bit.
Remember, the gate is down
=P
Quoted for epicness.
Sigh what a crappy day yesterday was. Lost two Vexors. Only upside was both were insured and the wrecks contained basically everything I needed to outfit my new(Third) one. Cause of the bounties, I was doing Recon and trying to kill everything lol, I broke about even but man it would have been a nice win fall if I hadn’t gotten sploded twice
Oh anyway, at the moment I’m pondering the choice of going Gallente and Caldari. Way I figure it if I get skilled up decently to fly both races I’ll also have decent chops to fly Minmatar/Ammar outside of Projectile Turrets/Lasers. Plus I really want Rokh…what a sexy awesome ship
I didn’t realize there was a GWC EVE group now.
I played for a year or so a while back but eventually dropped out for lack of time. I’ve got an Intaki floating around somewhere; maybe I should hop back in for a while and see what New Eden has gotten up to while I’ve been gone.
Oh, and this image is always worth pointing out…
tanstaffl, I just about spit coffee all over the computer I’m borrowing when I saw the above graph. It’s so true it’s not even funny. The only change I could see is that there’s actually no plateau at all. The Eve learning curve is so steep that it’s just a slightly-off-vertical line with no change at all.
In fact, it’s so consistent that you can barely tell that you’re moving along it until every few weeks (or months or years) you meet someone that’s climbing at a lower point on the curve and you look down – and realize “damn it’s a long way down!” Of course, someone else is looking at you from above. And from above them. And… You get the idea.
I’ve also heard Eve called an MMO for spreadsheet users. This is to some extent true. I’ve broken out Excel on two separate occasions to try and get my head around some of the decision I’ve made in-game, but I don’t see this as a bad thing. Hell, in many ways it feels good to see a business tool bastardized and corrupted into fun.
But it’s so easy to forget that in Eve – like, I’d assume, in all MMOs – it’s much more fun to play in a group. There’s something really fun about setting out with a group of friends on Vent to do some stupid thing or another and to actually accomplish it. Even when half the crew’s running home in pods and the other half are trailing smoke – or woke up suddenly in a clone vat – there’s always a sense of accomplishment. Take for example, watching that 350+M ISK ship go pop a week and a half ago. Sure, we lost a (cheap) cruiser and a couple of (even cheaper) frigates. But damn, it was fun to see it explode, especially considering that they jumped us. They “won” the battle, but we live to buy more cheap ships. Isn’t that a bigger win?
Seriously, though, they should just forget trying to assemble any kind of “manual” for Eve and just put a copy of the first Honor Harrington book in the retail box. You don’t need instructions to play Eve as much as some serious inspiration.
You people are a bunch of filthy enablers. I just reinstalled Eve and reactivated my account. Right now it’s downloading the latest client (mine was over a year old) but maybe I’ll see a couple of you in game later tonight.
Name is Denis Jacquard, currently (I think) in a station around Intaki V.
And Chuck, about Eve as a spreadsheet; the best description I ever heard is that Eve is a detailed economic simulation with a starship combat front end.
And the client is still downloading. It’s giving me an estimated completion time of about 3 hours so I probably won’t get into my pod until tomorrow at least.
What times are the GWCers usually online?
Uh…me, I try to play a couple hours in the evenings anywhere from like 8 to 12 eastern
Hello, This is Rick from Rainy-Rhode Island.
My Eve Handle is Rixram, and I’m addicted to Eve-online. (bored Eve-Anonymous group meeting replies “hello Rix”)
Ok, I’ve been playing Eve for about 1.5 years now, I have 2 accounts:
-Rixram, of the merc corp “A-1 Bonding”, about 20M skill points
and
-Gracely, of the 3M Corp “Nocturnal Ascendancy”, about 13M skill points
(3M = Mining, Missioning, Manufacturing)
I’d really like to fly with some of the friendliest folks in SciFi, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I found the place!
As of today, I have Rixram in 0.0 CVA space, which is an alliance with an unpronouncable Latin name that follows the NRDS policy for it’s alliance space. It’s a great place to rat and salvage. There ARE red incursions in this space, and when that happens, anyone under fire calls out their posit in local, and everyone available immediately warps to aid you. So there is great ISK in the form of ratting, mining of exotic minerals available (namely zydrine) and PvP as well. But it’s not as cut-throat as the NBSI systems. Mission ship is a CNR and PvP in a Drake. Yes, Rix flies Caldari, and also has 9+ standings with Caldari Navy, meaning Rix can request Level-5 missions (although I’ve never done one…yet)
NRDS=Not Red, Don’t Shoot (only shoot known hostiles)
NBSI=Not Blue, Shoot Immediately (Open season on anyone who isn’t blue to you, or something like that)
Gracely is my Industry alt in hisec, flies a hulk and soon an Orca, too. Can build anythign T1 and some T2 (training to build HACs right now). Mines and builds at maximum efficiency.
Someone above mentioned that it’s better to mine in a Covetor than in a Hulk. Wrong. With a hulk, you mine faster, farther and safer than in a Covetor. Grace’s hulk has paid for it’s 100M price tag many times over. Also, properly fitted, it’d take a torp raven to destroy it in a gank situation, and even then, the replacement cost of the outfitted raven is much higher than that of a Hulk, a technical loss on behalf of the ganker. Needless to say, she’s not ever been successfully ganked in that hulk.
I look forward to flying with all of you.
-Rick
For the skill books, always check the noob training systems, like Komo. Best deals on skill books are there.
I’ve gotten some flak before about being a New Eden resident while other people are slaying demons in WoW. Admittedly some of the ribbings they’ve given me are amusing though:
“Spreadsheets In Spaaaaaace!”
And my favorite…
“Excel, The Final Frontier”
