Eve Online

Curious… The last post before yours was right about the time that SWTOR came out. That’s where I’ve been, to the exclusion of ALL other gaming anyway.

If you are playing, join the “GWC” chat channel in game and say hi.

Same here. I’m not sure I’ll ever take advantage of there 5 day $20 reactivation deals again. All I’m doing in EVE is skill training.

Can I have all your stuff?

Ok. That made me laugh.

But no. (:

Just got a pc that can handle EVE (thank the lords of Kobol) and im interested in starting an EVE account…

any tipS? any friendly tutors? i understand it is quite a steep learning curve (or as they say in new york loining coiv)

Yeah… EVE’s learning curve can be steep. Traditionally it’s viewed as something like this:

However a recent post from the makers of the game, CCP, claim that the new in-game tutorials make it more like this:

To be honest, the truth is probably a mixture of both

To start with I’d advise following the tutorials, they do a pretty good job of getting you familiar with the basic mechanics of the game.

But my main advice is to find yourself a player-run corp to join as soon as possible. The NPC corps are full of the sort of bigoted, ego-centric jackasses that plague online games. You can look for player corps in the EVE forums or the in-game corp chat channel – just look for something new player friendly that’s in your time zone to start with. And don’t go paying any joining fees or crap like that. Proper newbie friendly corps should be throwing you ships & modules and things for free, not making you pay anything. They should also be able to help you with ship fittings and advice on how to do missions (which are a good way to get used to the game before you try any PvP, should you wish to go down that route).

Oh and also join the GWC chat channel in-game. It’s not that active right now, but I’m often in there and I’ll be happy to answer any questions.

MUCH OBLIGED friend!

Yeah, there are quite a few good beginner corps out there. Some of them even have relationships with larger corps in big pvp alliances, if you are interested in that sort of thing. Eve University used to be a good place to start, but I don’t know if they still are or not. Anyway, check out the recruitment section on the Eve-O forums and see if anything catches your eye. See you in the GWC channel!

Personally, I’d wouldn’t advise going EVE Uni.

Uncontroversially, there’s normally a long queue to join. And by then time you do get to join, you’ll already have had to learn a lot of things on your own. While putting up with the NPC corps nonsense.

More controversially, I don’t think they teach EVE that well. I mean they teach the basics, they give good fits for missions, and have good minings ops… but when it comes to politics, PvP, pissing people off for lols… they don’t seem to get EVE… They moan and cry instead of getting revenge. And they seem to instil that same bad attitude to those who attend. EVE is not a game to moan about things not being fair, it’s a game to find how to be unfair to someone, and then be unfair to them

Anyway… just my opinion.

I guess they aren’t so hot these days. My experience with recent graduates was cool 4 years ago. But, that was 4 years ago.

Welcome to EVE. I made a post a few years ago that you may find helpful.

My subscription expired on Monday. I’m devoting my MMO time to TOR now. But, I wish I could make time for both.

So I can assume you left me a contract?

You can’t have my stuff! d:

Hey, it’s always worth a shot;)

“EliThayer” in game…learning hard…lonely out in the verse!

Videos like this one below make me miss the game.

Then I remember, I couldn’t make money as easily as I can in SWTOR. sighs

watches the video again

I’ll be in my bunk…

Yeah, I let my subs lapse a couple of weeks ago because I haven’t had time to think about playing. I’m eager to get this last project out of the shop and play some video games again!

To make your Eve withdrawals worse, I’ll add that they’re live streaming the Burn Jita event.

Why are they burning Jita this time?
