I’ve been watching from the beginning. It’s pretty good. New episodes will be good. In fact anything new would be good. There has been nothing on for weeks. Thankfully I have a decent archive of stuff to watch.
It is dumb Sci-Fi. But it is really, really fun dumb Sci-Fi.
Like when all metal in the buildings was turning to gold:
“We’ll be rich but dangerously unstable.”
“Like Paris Hilton!”
Eureka is like that perfect storm of funny goodness. Casting, directing, set design, writing… the list goes on, but I think if just one of those elements was less than it is it would all fall down. I love it. My wife likes it because she can get it.
It’s accessible.
It is back next week! I really like the concept of the Geeks are the majority and the average man is the outsider. It is great fun. I am ready for watching it next week. Eureka is great fun. :D:D:D
Yeah that’s great. He’s like “Anybody wanna play baseball?” and then he saves the day and then the town is like “K” and he’s like “wtf is dis virtual craaaaaaaaaaap”
I love how exasperated Carter gets about all of the simple things that are “overengineered”. Because really, “virtual baseball”? Whut?
Anyway, I’ve loved Eureka since the first episode. This maybe Scifi blasphemy, but the small town feel reminds me of Gilmore Girls’ Stars Hollow.:o I know…ducks
I’ve also been a big fan from the beginning. I honestly, I know blasphemy at this point, wasn’t with BSG. Didn’t watch the miniseries. Wanted to but forgot and never caught it until after the first season started. Episode that really got me into BSG was Hand of God though.
It is a scifi comedy. The outsiders tying to fit in. It is a great show to relax with the family.
Any body catch the BSG reference in that Martha the “Cylon like robot” took out the Viper project in the beginning?
Another thought I had while watching the new episode which I think was spurred on by the SW arc discussion is that Colin Ferguson really knows how to act to a green screen. Tn the prequels there were times where the emotion/action of the characters really didn’t mess with what was shown. I guess technically this is more the animators fault because the actors performance occurs first…well actually it’s the directors responsibility to make sure the actors and animators are on the same page. Anyway, the point is, while I acknowledge its largely a comedy, Eureka does a good job having the real life performance match what is actually shown on the screen in the final product…
I caught the BSG reference when Zoe was like “I’d still be back there if your cylon scooter didn’t show me the way out” but not the Cylon vs Viper thing
Martha sounded like the old cylon and even had the one eye moving. Red eye not so nice when she had a blue eye she was passive. The shape was very similar. The Viper was not so impressive.
Viper took out like 9 of them…it’s kinda impressive.
They should built a Viper looking drone to hunt Martha. That’d have been so cool
I would have been happy with something that looked like a viper on a shelf with all the tech stuff. I really thought this episode was a great deal of fun. It also was a great idea to have a teenage drone and an over protective parent.
Eureka is one of Sci-Fi cool little shows a hidden little gem. It’s like Star wars, Star Trek and yes BSG in that it is built in its own world. The Fun part about Eureka is they are in our world but hidden from us and they have their own rules and way of life. The stories are good for the most part and taking Joe Cop and putting him in a High Tech Society with a talking house was just the right twist to make this show work in my opinion. I hope Sci-Fi can let the producers and writer do what they do best and we can sit back and enjoy the ride.
This week episode was a good twist on teenage rebellion. The use of Tech and attitude was cool and enjoyable.
One of the things I like about the show is its lower concern about continuity than other recent sci-fi shows. Don’t get me wrong I love scrutinizing all the details of BSG as much as the next guy, but sometimes I don’t mind a show that will just tell a good story at teh expense of some contradictions with what occurred previously…
so I tivo’d skiffy’s mini marathon last week, and I’ve been going nuts trying to remember where I’ve seen Deputy Jo before.
I think it was the scraped-back hair that fooled me.
btw, Solai (and everyone) thanks for recommending the show. it’s right up my alley. now to netflix season 1
I really enjoyed tonight’s episode…episode 2, season 3…Eureka rocks. Not quite the sophistication level of BSG…but fun, and fun is ok.
What does everyone think of the Degree Global Dynamics/Eureka sponsorship?
Kind of an quirky tongue in cheek admission of product placement which is appropriate in a generally quirky show…
I have been thinking about it and have decided to accept it for what it is. In my opinion, if the ad placement helps keep the show alive, then bring it on. I thought it would really annoy me, but for some reason I just find it funny.
I keep wondering if the writers will go rogue in the matter. What if the tie-in becomes the major plot point? Rogue containers of Degree doing strange, Eureka-like things out there could be an interesting shift.
I still thought the baffled expression on the part of Thorn relative to that strange nuclear detonation film was nice. Her baffled expression was probably due to the date on the film canister. After all, wouldn’t you be worried seeing something bearing the date 1938 for such?
