Dragon*Con 2008 - Aug 29-Sept 1

I know it is over 300 days away, but it is never to start planning.

Unless something strange happens I am going again next year.

I am hearing there MIGHT be a entire BSG track (this year it was just part of the ScifiTV Track), which would be “awesome”. I’ll keep you all updated as I get more info

The Bunnies are hoping they invite Jamie back because we have major plans if they do - a huge meet-up of over 20 of us, and possibly a 5K fan girl/boy walk/run for charity.

So I just found out you can start making reservations for D*C next year at the Marriot:

for the marriot, go to their site and enter the code: DRADRAA under the group name for the discount. 165/night

Now I stayed at the Baymont - about 6 blocks away - for about 89/night

For those of you who are like me and completely new to Dragon*Con, it’s in Atlanta, GA, each year over Labor Day weekend.

Here’s the website:

I am so excited - I would LOVE to go to this. I’m dropping pennies in a jar now to get started saving.

You know Audra, I was planning on going this year, but my fear of flying kept me away. So I took a hop to Wash. DC this year (by plane) and got over it. This seems like THE Con to attend if you’re going to go at all…

I think I may go to it in '08 as well. Seems rather reasonably priced and not too far to drive from Dallas :). Just straight down 20. Looks like you can get rooms at a fair rate just a few blocks from the event. Definitely going to start saving up.

Thread necro…

Ok, anyone planning on going at this point in time? Main hotels are rumored to be filling up. Apparently two major college football games in town that same weekend and they are using the discount code for rooms in the DC hotels.

I am planning to go this year (it is quickly looking to be the once a year pilgramage). I don’t know about the hotels because one of my friends lives a couple miles from the con, so I am staying with her and her husband (They are also GWC listeners, but doesn’t post).

I can tell you that I stayed in one of the overflow hotels and it was about a 6 block walk to the con hotels. I also know people who stayed a bit closer, but were not at overflow hotels.

If you want to stay at the con hotels I would say book NOW. If you don’t mind a little walk the overflow hotels are slightly cheaper (we paid about $100/night).

My other suggestion - get there Thursday and don’t plan on leaving until Monday afternoon. This is a little easier if you are driving, but I missed half of the first panel because of a late plane (not mine, someone I was meeting) and the last panel (because my plane left too early).

Also - prepurchase your tickets - the line is MUCH smaller and quicker.

As we get closer I will post some helpful suggestions from my experience last year, if you all would like.

I also have links to maps of the area that I can dig up from last year if you would like those.

I also put together a spreadsheet last year that allowed us to preplan a little, and I will likely do that this year that I will gladly share with any GWCers who are going to attend (basically it took all the track information and put it in one place.).

There are probably about 30 things that happen all at once at D*C, so a bit of preplanning is a must or you may miss something you really want to see.

They have started to announce guest for this year!!!

So far from BSG:

Tamoh Penikett (Helo)
Leah Cairnes (Racetrack)
Richard Hatch (Apollo or Zarek depending on which incarnation you are talking about)

Aaron has been added to the Dragon*Con guest list.

I can’t wait to get my Jamie/Aaron hug pick and the Bamber Bunnies group shot signed.

I was going anyway, this makes it so much more to look forward (and gives us hope that Jamie will be invited back too).

Thanks to Michelle from AaronDouglasFans.com for the heads up.

We are going to be sequestered at the Days Inn a couple of blocks over. Well under $100 a night.

Narrowing my costume list down a bit at this point…

  1. Firefly related…
  2. BSG related…
  3. Stargate related…
  4. An 80s film related…

I’m sorry, Are you saying that Jamie Bamber is going to be there with Tamoh Penikett? If so, YES!!! I’ll see you there.

Well Jamie has been confirmed YET, but I hear the entire cast was invited (thanks to Michelle from AaronDouglasFans.com)…so the bunnies are holding out hope and the 9+ of us going to London and OH are going to bug Jamie about it, assuming he doesn’t have to cancel due to filming.

What I was talking about was getting this pic signed by Aaron (and Jamie if he is there),

Sorry if is a little big, but is the only scan I have, and I don’t want to resize.

Because we had to wait for our professional picture and wouldn’t have it to get signed the photog threw in this one as an extra for all of us.

Adam Baldwin has been posted as another guest…

I bought my ticket today!! I’m so excited!!I’m going to Dragon Con!! YAY!!

Heh. That gave the GF a start. “What are you looking at?!”

Boring her with the backstory was a bit anticlimatic, though.

Well Jamie Bamber has been confirmed as well as James Callis.

So the bunnies will be there in force.

I am now hoping that they add some of the female cast, cause I would like to meet some of them too.

For the Firefly fans (I am a newish fan as I just watched the series for the first time in the last couple months) - they have added Adam Baldwin (Jayne) and Jewel Staite (Kayle) to the D*C.

The more people they add the more excited I get.

There is a strong rumor that Katee Sackoff is going to be at D*C. It is not on the website yet, but I have pretty good sources that say she is on the list.

We are also working some inside track to try and get some of the lessor known for going to cons to attend (read: Michael Hogan/Grace Park).

I will keep y’all updated as additions are made.

Racetrack has been on the list for quite a while.

Oh, Fett is going to be there too.

I will be there as well. They just forgot to add me to the guest list :stuck_out_tongue:

Still trying to figure out if I really want to wear alpaca chaps all day though.
