I’ve laughed at a lot of dialogue in this game. I’ve truly gotten my money’s worth.
Ok a Halla I can understand (ok not really, but you know what I mean), but a Nug is just wrong. I’m scared to look at the video… d:

I watched it, but couldn’t read the text even on the HQ stream. Found a complete video at:

Now, I don’t have to go through the trouble myself. d: I still say Nugs are just wrong…
Now, excuse me while I take a shower to rid myself of this dirty feeling.
ya the humor really is good here
I hope it sells well enough that they make a sequel
You haven’t heard? They made over a million in the first week. Question becomes which options and endings do you want to keep for three or so years (my personal guess, nothing official) until the sequel comes out.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/dragonage/news.html?sid=6239818&mode=all
Brown recapped the nearly instantaneous success of Dragon Age: Origins, the BioWare fantasy role-playing game that arrived in stores early last week. The executive said that sales of Dragon Age downloadable content are already “well past $1 million” collectively. Brown also reiterated the company’s intent to support the game with new add-ons for an entire year after launch.
They made over $1 million with just the add ons themselves… I wonder if Bioware is hiring.
woo!!!
I know I’ll keep supporting the DLC
that said though I’m assuming the sequel IF they do make one (oh please please PLEASE do) that it would take place 200-400 years after the blight in the first one since it seems like thats the ‘normal’ time between Blights?
then perhaps they could draw upon your saves to see how things played out after
though even if they didn’t do another Blight there’s so much they could cover though right?
there’s the obvious big choice of Morrigan’s child but I don’t see how you could base the game off that since not everyone picked that ending
another factor would be how soon like you said would it come out? if they went off the same engine and just did minor upgrade tweaks I’m sure they could probably crank another one out in 2 years or so like Mass Effect to try and get it out for this gen
but if they build a new engine chances are we won’t see it until the next gen of consoles which we still don’t know how they’re going to handle the save changes over and all
though I am speaking from a xbox 360 point of view
Anyone who sided with Carridin have any advice for that fight? I went in at like level 16 with my main (a dwarf dual-wield warrior), shale, wynn and oghren. Those two golems on Carridins side got spanked in a jiffy and Branka herself fights like shes possesed or something. Had to revert to a previous save, since the best I did was killing 2/3 of her golems and getting her low enough to summon those simulacra.
Side note: Zevran wont betray you if youve gotten his approval rating to like 30+
I beat Branka at about lvl 13-14 (I can look to be sure, but it was my second Blight Arc after Broken Circle). I had a two-handed weapon dwarf (PC), Wynne, Shale (tank mode, two fire crystals with Stone Heart active mixed with Pulverizing Blows for some damage), and Oghren (DPS). Took me three tries as well. I went after the yellow golem(s) first, then killed whatever golems were killing Carridin’s golems to keep them alive for the rest of the fight. I spared some mana to heal them as well. It helps to focus DPS on whatever golem a Carridin golem is on.
I think two of the most important advice I can give is to make sure your healer use the lyrium veins lying around. This kept Wynne’s mana high while limiting the veins Branka can use. Also, keep track of the original Branka when she summons her clones. Ignore the clones except for Shale to Bellow, Stone Roar, and Regeneating Burst them to keep damage on her. Then just pound on the original Branka with with everything. Mighty Blow, Arcane Bolt, etc. With luck, the Carridin golems will still be alive to help you.
Good luck.
I focused on the golems first but Carridins two still died with the quickness, I guess my damage output wasnt high enough to down them quickly enough. I grabbed lyrium veins when I could, but as Wynne I got to the top of Brankas aggro list pretty quickly; especially after my main died. My main has a problem with aggro as he deals almost 60% of the parties damage by himself, at the time Shale couldnt aggro enough to keep my little dwarf from getting himself killed first. A bigger problem is having 3 melee and very little crowd control since I made some questionable talent choices.
Ive gone back to open chests I missed in all the areas I completed, plus mopping up sidequests to make money. Soon as I finish Denerim (not the landsmeet bit) Ill attempt the Branka fight again. This time with better gear, more points in tanking talents for Shale and Ill follow your advice and micro manage more (keeping those golems alive, taking more lyrium veins).
Did you defeat the High Dragon? I think I managed to kill it about 1/4 of the way before it spanked me, lol.
Yeah killed it at lvl 16, then Flemeth afterwards since I was already wearing the fire protection gear. You MUST let Shale tank those fights since dragons never chew on her. You can let Alistair or Loghain tank, but I dunno how that will go. Badly for me.
As for Branka, sounds like you’re not letting Shale grab hate and/or Bellow before you engage with your PC, and/or you are using too many talents on your PC too soon.
I dunno why Carradin’s golems die quickly for you… I’ve kept at least one alive in each of my three tries. Kept both alive on the third. You may want to use Shale’s Stone Aura talent if possible and convenient. I never had to. I just stuck with Stone Heart and Pulverizing Blows myself.
I like micro managing. The Tactics window can help, but most often it yields unanticipated results in important fights (like against Revenants or Sloth Demon in Broken Circle.
It may sound like I’m on some kind of Shale band wagon, but it’s coincidence that’s she’s great against Branka (for the story line), and dragons (for tanking). I tried using Shale in the Proving battles, but turns out Alistair was better.
Edit: Oops, I meant to edit my last post, not quote. Sorry. I’m not that impatient to reach 1,000 posts, I promise.
Edit edit: Confirmed, my two-handed Dwarven warrior was level 14, as was Oghren, when he beat Branka. Shale was 13 and Wynne was 14.
If I recall correctly I hadnt really invested points into Shales tanking tree and I had inferior gear. I was using Alistair as my tank and Shale as DPS but grabbed Shale instead of Alistair when I went into the Trenches because Shale was more versatile. When I tried the fight I generally let the team go off of tactics, only pointing them at the same mob, while I healed with Wynne. Since my main is pure damage the tactics just go through all of his abilities as they come up.
What difficulty are you playing on?
I play on Normal. Recently reconsidering using easy for my other characters to get achievements.
Edit: And, I’m now OG. d:
Congrats OG!
Im playing on Hard, soon as I finish my first playthrough Im going to try it on Nightmare. I have a feeling its going to be a lot harder than Nightmare on Mass Effect.
finished my second play through last night, story didn’t come out at perfect as I wanted with the whole having Allister do the nasty with Morrigan
next play through is going to produce a true abomination of the story, I plan to slaughter the mages, slaughter the Dalish, put Harrowmont on the throne, side with the Queen and have Loghain join up at the end to die
then after that in what will probably be my final play through for a while (I’m estimating I might finish it just before Mass Effect 2 hits…so we all know where I’ll be when that comes out) where I’ll truly get the good story with the self sacrifice and everything
Thanks.
Yeah, that would explain it. d:
Harrowmont is the good guy. The nightmare option would be putting Bhelen on the throne. And, siding with Branka of course. Don’t forget to sacrifice Connor for the Blood Mage specialty or a free Talent tome.
I sided with Bhelen because I read that it ends up better for the dwarves. I didnt like that I couldnt ask the questions I would have asked in real life. It doesnt give you the option of investigating whether Bhelen is lying through his teeth (you can find out after you agree to help him) and then telling his so called supporters.
Play through the Noble Dwarf Origin. d:
Actually, you get clues if you do Harrowmont’s side quests too.
Harrowmont has side quests?
I plan to do all of the origin stories eventually, but right now Im a lowly dust-town nug.
Man, being casteless is hard. You stay in dust town and everyone with a caste treats you like an offensive smell they dont know how to get rid of. You become a warden and come back to Orzammar and your fellow casteless think your putting on airs, and turn their back on you, and the nobles still think you are only marginally better than gutter scum.
Being casteless really gives you a different perspective during the Anvil of the Void quest. Sure, it may start off with volunteers, but how long before the nobles decide that sacrificing some ‘casteless scum’ is the best way to win the war? History repeating itself.
Finished my second playthrough this weekend and I frakked it all up again. My character stats were better (female human melee rogue duelist/assassin), but I hated the ending so much! Morrigan left in a big huff when I refused her deal, which made my final assault crew a little sad - especially because I forgot to take back all the nice equipment I gave her! But I kinda liked the implication that she’d become a presence in the Orlesian court. Just like with the demon baby, that does not sould like it will bode well for my hero.
And then, because I didn’t toughen up Alistair after the meeting with his sister, he all but hates the idea of becoming king. I couldn’t in good conscience force him to do that (poor guy), so I made Anora queen. The epilogue rolls around and I find out she’s a decent queen but is really hard on the alienage elves and insists on making some statue of her dad that everyone ignores.
Worst of all, I had planned to sacrifice my character, but then when the time comes even though I say “I’ll do it”, Alistair does. Ugh. Most. Depressing. Ending. Ever.
So it looks like in the interest of a sequel-save-game, I will have to play through…again. I’ll be holding off til that new DLC comes out! And I’ll likely just play on easy to move things along.
Tyr is my new favorite name for dog. But the first time through, I named him Carth.
Oh and quick question: there are five spaces for allies in the final assault, though I’ve only ever had four to choose from. I’ve heard a rumor that the fifth slot is for the werewolves? Is that true?
Dwarves, Radcliff Soldiers, Elves or Werewolves, Mages or Templars. That’s it unless a DLC introduces another.
Edit: Could be a space for golems, but I’d think they share with Dwarves.
