Dollhouse

oh, and why we are at it, Olivia Williams is very underrated in the hotness stakes but Sierra is probably the hottest.

I couldn’t agree more. That’s exactly why I didn’t like her backstory. It felt just too…done. No emotional resonance for me (though I dislike animal testing). Very ho hum. I was expecting something a lot cooler/mysterious/juicy.

I’m having a hard time getting into this show enough to get caught up. And with the ratings being what they are (and this being Fox working with Joss Whedon), I’m not sure it’s worth it at this point. Help!

More importantly, Tikkachic, where’ve you been?

I can’t imagine it’s really that simple. It’s still pretty early for us to have seen her full backstory already.

Man on the Street was by far the best episode of the series so far - and I have to admit I was a bit disappointed that last week’s wasn’t as good. I agree that Caroline’s backstory feels a bit off, but I’m hoping that there’s something we don’t know that will make it WOW later.

That said, it’s still better than anything else that’s first run that I’m watching. And I still enjoy watching it - where Man on the street is my favorite, the crazy cult one is my 2nd fav.

Watching Joss has taught me to have faith (small “f”), so I’m really hoping that was just a quick snapshot of past and not The Whole Story. I’ll definitely give them the benefit of the doubt.

The series is kinda hard to get into because the first episodes were a little inconsistent. It is getting better and I can see where it could be great.

Armando - I’ve been switching roles and switching offices, so been MIA, but I’m waiting for our next DC Frak Party!

Though there are still numerous problems in the show, I am starting to enjoy the ride a little bit that we’ve got at least two intriguing episodes and it’s not just about Echo screwing up her missions, which was more the most part hot but mindless.

That being said, I’m still finding it difficult to really like Echo as the main character. Other than looking damn good, she’s really kind of boring. I would like to know a lot more about the other four actives - yes, even the blond dude, who’s kind of awesome - way more than I care to find out more about Caroline.

And, for the moment, I don’t find the Dollhouse Organization to be all that interesting - at the moment, we still don’t really know the motivation other than money and power (which in itself is questionable enough given we’ve seen so many frakups in the missions; who’d want to pay all that money for dolls that don’t work all that much better than normal people?) behind the cool techno slave trade, which I hope would change soon enough, because otherwise, why should I really care if Ballard/Caroline/Echo/Alpha wants to take down the boring typical evil Dollhouse? I’m definitely hoping for a larger plan behind the Dollhouse. Otherwise, it’s really just a high tech hooker slave house. Big whoop.

Either that, or get more backstory behind the people running Dollhouse so I can understand why they’re there - be it they’re truly evil or whatever. So far, they’re kind of a dull (and in the case of Topher, annoying) bunch of evil doers. Excluding Amy Acker, because, man, I can’t dislike that girl.

But yet, even with all my qualms, I’m still watching, mostly due to the Whedon effect, though I’m not sure if it’ll really pay off - we don’t really have a lot of episodes left in the show (unless, miraculously they do end up with another season…). Hm.

I have to agree with you there Coco. I am liking the show much more now, but how much does it cost to maintain the facility and the operatives, and how much are they really getting paid for the jobs? That can be a more interesting story. And I like ED, but she doesn’t seem to be filling the main character role here. I hope that a better group dynamic appears like in the other Whedon shows.

But on the other hand I can still maintain my suspension of disbelief, heck I didn’t question why Buffy could kill dozens of vampires a week in a small town and nobody notices that huge monster population.

I agree about the atypical Dolls, but I’m also very very curious as to the relationship of that House to others, who is pulling the strings and why. If Adele can believe they are helping people, well, how can that be reconciled with human trafficking? I’m intrigued, to say the least.

Beyond just mindless suspension of disbelief, I think of it in the same way that one might reconcile human suffering with the idea of a loving, all-powerful God. Either it is indeed for the greater good, in which one must accept that the “big picture” is beyond understanding, or it’s just bullsorrybarb.

So the real question is: Does Adele have genuine faith in the true mission of the Dollhouse organization, or is she deluding herself about its righteousness?

That’s one thing to consider is how far down the chain of command does the knowledge of the true plans of the organization go?

At a certain level, the people working for you have to know what you are trying to do, otherwise they will either not be able to do their jobs correctly and the mission will fail, or they will go off in their own direction.

I’m sorry to say, my road on this one stops here. I just can’t watch it anymore.

They have a warhouse full of clothes, they’re trying to escape captivity. Soooo…Mellie decides to wear a dress & a cute pair of sandals! errr…

They are almost out! Echo jumps out of the car & goes back in! Why? She’s a passionate activist! Really? I have yet to see any passion for it.

Ballard finds a device & takes it to some pawn shop. He then intimidating the guy running it into looking at it. He takes it apart & see’s a circuit board with flashing lights! OOO! This is a huge signal device that is beyond our abilities to block! Really? It looked like a blinking circuit board, how the hell can you tell what it is?

Topher? Annoying, Adele? Boring, Dominic? Dick

Yeah, sorry can’t do it anymore.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that. WTF? especially those sandals.

I guess I’m still putting just a little bit of hope in there that the Dollhouse can get more interesting like Buffy or Angel (which both, especially Angel, took a season or two before really getting its footing, at least for me. I didn’t like either shows too much at the beginning, and I remember having stopped watching for a while for both before getting back into them later. Let’s face it, Firefly was the only one that was like, AMAZING, right from the get go. Well, for me, anyway.), when the mythology is built enough and the characters finally get to the point where we can like them and care about what happens to them. (because, now, even if they say, kill off most of the people on the show, I don’t think I’ll bat an eyelid.) I just don’t think the show will have the time to do so before it gets cut.

Liked the latest episiode–except teh ending bugged me. Realyul wanted them to escape and have the ramifications of it…

I am amazed- its good!

It’s definitely coming around, and while the episode ws somethign of a red herring, it was still surprisingly sly at making a red herring very good at adding to the overall meat of the plot, which is appreciated. There may yet be a show here worth watching.

And hopefully, we’ll be able to watch it.

The GF and I are both following it.

Therefore, it is doomed.

Rumor has it that, indeed, it is doomed.

I’m finally caught up on Dollhouse and, I hate to say it, I’m seriously underwhelmed. Last week’s episode had potential, but just when I think Joss is going somewhere with this, he hits the reset button and we’re back where we started. What’s up with that?

I am lovin this show. My girlfriend and I already have out favorite actives,

I love siera, my girl loves fat active (helo’s girlfriend). But that’s really just because she was bangin Helo and she has had a huge Helo crush for a while.

I didn’t like Victor at first… but now I do. That kid is a pretty good actor as well. I actually think that Eliza is the worst actor in the cast. I like her… everyone else is just better.

I am really likeing the scared up doctor girl. She is pretty cool

I could go on and on and on.
