Did Daybreak Part 1 stink?

Caprica flashbacks?!?!?! Really, We have 3 hours left in the BSG world and we’re seeing Anders in a sports whirlpool talking to a reporter!?!? Lee taking pot shots at a bird!?!?! Seeing how Roslin’s and Baltar’s lives really did stink before the holocaust!?!

Anyone ever see the ST:TNG finale?(I know, stupid question). Anyone think the singularity have anything to do with the ending? ala time travel? Perhaps it’s the sigularity that resets the path of the human race, and spawns the whole (it’s happened before, and it will happen again) thing? And, pehaps, one person is needed to change it’s course(like Data in that repeating ST:TNG episode, where the Enterprise is destroyed again, again, and again, and then resets). Notice how Baltar kinda, sorta, wanted to move accross the line on the mission but didn’t? Maybe he really is the key.

Without seeing it in what I assume is its intended context (as a component of a much larger storyline) I can’t say for sure, but even as its own episode it felt more meaningful and important than I expected. The table was definitely set here.

I have edited my post so that people can know that I meant “it” and surely not a lewd reference to Caprica Six and FCC guidelines.

I voted no. Of course it didn’t ‘stink’. It did what BSG constantly does to it’s fans: Changes the rules, gives you what you didn’t expect, and challenges you to see something new at the most unexpected moments.

I think it was fascinating to step backwards for a moment and see these people at their beginnings, as we approach their very end.

The only way I’d vote yes is if they’d wheeled out a daggit. Or Jar Jar Binks.

I rewatched Daybreak Part I again.
And not only did it not sink, I think it’s a thing of pure, masterful, beauty.

When I watched the episode the first time on Friday, like everyone else, I was busy being surprised, figuring out what was happening, etc.
On the SECOND watch through you can really sit back and enjoy the visuals, the great moments, the subtlies of the story and reflect on the series as a whole.
I really loved (not just liked) this episode on the 2nd watch through.

No. I was so impressed with the Baltar flashback in particular, because all this time the general assumption was that Caprica seduced Baltar on a purely physical level - but now we see that there was a much more emotional beginning to that relationship. And I think it will be even more interesting to see if Baltar does join the Hera rescue mission and finally do something for someone (or a cause) that in all likelihood will not benefit him.

IYKWIM!?!

Seeing that Laura had lost EVERYTHING that mattered to her, long before everyone else, let us know why she was a little bit more clear minded when the FALL came.

did anyone else notice that the guy she was being set up on a date with was the male cop that came to tell her that her family was killed?

I think RDM is going to be telling us more and more right up to the very end. Every minute is going to matter. And I am sure that there are some questions that won’t be answered until “Caprica” and some that just will never be answered.

I prefer it this way, as I do not like my TV spoon feed to me. I think it one of the things we have all liked about this show, and we can’t lose touch with that just because RDM is not putting a ribbon nice and neat on it for us.
IMHO.

i had to vote no. after my first watch of it, it really left me with an awesome feeling. yes, we didnt get answers, but we got these beautiful flashbacks, heartfelt music, and awesome scenes on the hanger deck making me sooo excited for next week. so maybe if next week is crap or something i’ll have to reconsider… but this was they way i felt.

I’m not going to consider Daybreak pt. 1 until after I see the finale. This was only the first act of a 3 hour story. It’s an introduction, the pay off will come next week.

I guess, if this were three episodes ago, I would have LOVED the details in this episode. I think it’s just that we’re getting so, so close, to the end that I getting that desire for closure. And, I’m not sure I’m going to get it completely. I’m waiting for the catharisis, and I’m not sure we’re going to get it.

Yes. It’s a little late for background character development, IMO. Seemed to me like they had some extra, unused footage available to eat up some time in the episode. Roslynn looked more like those girls’ mother than their sister, too.

I was thinking that during the episode, but I can suspend my disbelieving for that I suppose…that is not why I thought it stunk.

I just don’t want to see anymore development of the characters at this point. I don’t expect them to tell us the answers to everything, I don’t even think RDM knows them all. I just think they will use next week to give us an excuse to why the kill everyone off in the show. Notice everyone is going with the Galactica except for the Doc and Baltar.

I posted somewhere on here that it looks like they are leaving the fleet with nothing by the end of the show when it became clear that the Galactia was not going to make it to the end. And I suppose that also includes there leaders too, Laura, Bill, Lee, Helo, Starbuck, ect. Everyone who has been leading (and the ship captains didn’t look like leaders when they showed them so I think no better or worse than any other average Joe out there in the rag tag fleet) will die and the 39,000 or so left with have to rebuild without any human or material resources.

Just has been feeling depressed, and that is why I say it stinks.

And for that, you get an amen.

It depends upon how far apart they were born. My grandmother has a sister who is about 10-20 years younger than her. It can happen.

Maybe I’m, on my own here - but I really enjoyed it. Felt a lot more liek a Season One ep…complete with Starbuck being all daughtery to Bill Adama and Lee in uniform at the end…

My mother’s youngest sister is 18 years younger.

I voted no. I really enjoyed the flashbacks. And yes, I feel the clock ticking as everyone else, and I want my questions answered, but I can’t complain about BSG.
Bottom line: it’s been a thrill ride, and it looks to be, till the very end.
I just simply love it.

I can be an episode hater (black market + Sine Qua Non). But I loved Daybreak Part 1.

I think the anger of other forumers come from that we are way too near the end of the series to have the plot move almost no where for consecutive episodes. It’s not because this episode sucked that caused the “Season 4.5 disappointment” thread to appear. So far, I am not really disappointed by their decision to resolve everything in 2 hours. I really have to wait until I have seen the finale to pass judgment on that. I suppose that is why I didn’t mind this episode that much. In fact it is one of the more interesting episodes of 4.5.

I wasn’t really a fan of the mutiny arch. I think it didn’t do Gaeta or Zerak’s character justice. It also felt like you can skip those episodes without missing too much. All you really needed to know is that Anders got shot. I can see why the Writers want to do that story, because they feel the decision of allying with Cylon rebels should have a consequence. But more interesting story could have been told. Galactica breaking up also dragged on for episodes, when there were few left in the series. I think they could have moved the point a little quicker and bring in more story. It is probably because since Galactica is stationary since 4.5 began, the pace slowed down.

When we had the fleet on the run, and a B story on Caprica or Kobol, that was when BSG was at its best. When it’s just the fleet wondering the stars, it started to feel slow (good portion of season 3). And now the fleet is dead in space, when the plot drags it really drags. But it doesn’t bother me that the pace is a bit slow. I’ve gotten used to it since season 3. I can feel the budget isn’t what it used to be for Season 1, and with more episode to produce and saving up for the big shows, I can live with a more character driven story.

If the finale didn’t live up to the hype, then I might come back and feel differently about this episode. But so far, I loved the Caprica flash backs. At least it gets the view out from the ship for a bit.

I would agree. I do, however, find it curious why people would be threatening to jump off the train just as it’s reaching the station. But, then again, I’m pretty stubborn in my old age. I have gone this far, I will see it through to the end, suspending final judgement until I get there.

So say we all.
