Dark Knight SPOILERS

Oracle was just the first Batgirl, there’s a second now, isn’t there? And then there’s Huntress who used to be Batman’s daughter but now is a mafia child, right?

They buried the body, so I’m with you, RMHPH. If Gordon hadn’t been there to supervise collecting the body I might have suspected that he somehow survived. But it’s also not very Batman-like to leave a bad dude alive if he doesn’t have to leave before the job is done. Batman’s moral ambiguity balanced against his moral clarity is the best part of the whole character.

Wow. Since I don’t read the novels/comics of these anymore (haven’t since I was like 12, actually), I did not know this. Somehow, and I know this is weird, but I kind of pictured Batman as impotent. Don’t know why. But he should definitely NOT have a child.

I loved watching that when I was a kiddo. It’s SO cheesey-delicious.

Batman isn’t impotent. Didn’t he have another child with Thalia?

i think i read somewhere a while ago that Chris Nolan said he would not have Robin in any Batman movies that he is a part of, possibly because he draws so much from Frank Miller’s work.

although i think if anyone were to reintroduce Robin as a sidekick, in a way that is believable and coherent with this rebooted Batman, it would be the brothers Nolan.

Chris O’Donnell was just so whiney as Robin, especially in Batman & Robin, it just left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak.

What are you doing reading this thread? I thought you were preserving your Dark Knight innocence for the theater?

Probably not the best example, considering what Gordon himself does in this movie… :stuck_out_tongue:

But it’s also not very Batman-like to leave a bad dude alive if he doesn’t have to leave before the job is done.

How so? I thought that killing anyone, good or bad, was against his code.

Batman’s moral ambiguity balanced against his moral clarity is the best part of the whole character.

Agreed.

I kind of pictured Batman as impotent.

Wuh-wuh-what???

His cover story is that he’s a billionaire playboy with an insatiable appetite for carnal delights. Don’t you think that stories of impotence would tarnish that image somewhat?

I loved watching that when I was a kiddo. It’s SO cheesey-delicious.

I know, I loved it. There’s so much really subversive humor in it too that completely flew over my head as a kid. A few years ago, I was on third shift and watched the entire series at least twice on TV Land. I much preferred that to having to wait until next week on the same Bat-Channel at the same Bat-Time.

He had just watched his family die, so give him a little slack. Besides, in the hands of a less cheesetacular director, his Robin could have redefined the character in a good way…

I’m guess sterile would be the world your going after. Maybe he has too many high energy devices attached to his utility belt…

He does keep some radioactive kryptonite there. “Just in case.”

Yeah, that’s what I was going for. Able to get up to all sorts of adventures but unable to pass on his genes. I get that it’s blasphemous/insulting to his manhood, but somehow it just makes sense to me. I fully accept that I’m just going with a gut feeling.

I always notice differences. Gordon’s girl never shown her face and his son has lines and sees Batman several times stating he is a good guy. Maybe he will take Batman’s place when Batman gets to old. That was a cartoon I saw a few times but I do not remember what it is called. Barbara face may have not been shown so that in the next movie she could take a more active part with another actor.

Since there was more than one Robin maybe they will change his background again.

I think Twoface’s death may have been planned in the movie but may have changed after H.L. death. I do not see anyone taking the Joker to another movie.

Twoface could have been placed somewhere in a crazy ward to hide the fact that he is alive. I thought that H. Dent died to keep him as a hero but I am not sure about Twoface. The city needs a hero and H.D. had to die one not live as a crazy man.

Can you tell I like the movie?

yea, it’s probably more of a problem with Joel Schumacher that i have anyway. i could buy the whining in Batman Forever, but in Batman & Robin his main complaint was that Batman was getting all the limelight, which really just bugged me.

I haven’t actually read anything, I just peeked and responded. I’m still a virgin.

When is the movie out by you?

August 20th. Or the 21st? The Thursday. That’s gonna be a long three weeks…

ooh, unfortunate batarang mishap…

Hopefully he’s got the sense to keep it contained in lead, unlike a certain supervillain president.

Infertility isn’t quite the blow to his manhood that impotence would be.

but somehow it just makes sense to me. I fully accept that I’m just going with a gut feeling.

I prefer to think of him having dozens of illegitimate children all around the world, as befits an irresponsible billionaire playboy. One must keep up appearances, mustn’t one? :stuck_out_tongue:

Batman Beyond. Barbara Gordon was the police commissioner in that. The kid who was Batman was unrelated though. Not a bad idea though.

Barbara face may have not been shown so that in the next movie she could take a more active part with another actor.

You see her face very briefly while her mother is hugging her toward the end. She could still be played by a different actress later, of course, since she’s barely in this one.

Since there was more than one Robin maybe they will change his background again.

Could be.

I think Twoface’s death may have been planned in the movie but may have changed after H.L. death. I do not see anyone taking the Joker to another movie.

I almost think that if we see Two-Face again, it will be a brief cameo like Scarecrow was in this one. I can’t see this franchise going beyond one more movie, at least not without a lot of cast changes.

Can you tell I like the movie?

A little.

You’re right, of course. I’ve blocked out those two movies from memory to the point that I forget that they even were two separate movies. I’ve combined them into one über-crappy movie in my mind. Yeah, he did sort of suck in B&R. Especially with the nipples and Bat-butts…

uh-huh. “c’mon, just the tip…?”

 the tip of the spear, so to say?

Then again it could be intentional. Maybe he had his “bat cords” cut? Avoids unwanted paternity suits…

k…not sure if anyone has said this yet, but i soooo hope that heath ledger gets nominated and WINS for this…seriously, when a supporting actor becomes the star of the film (ie johnny depp in pirates??) c’MON!! i’ve been lucky enough to get my hands a copy of this movie i shouldn’t have and i am continually blown away by his performance…not only that, but the pacing and the music and the story…so this isn’t some lameass real life drama like erin brokovich or some such (you know what i mean?) but i got (and still get) freakin chills everytime gordan says “because he can take it” and the music kicks in (which should ALSO win for best score…the music is so moody and PERFECT for what it’s helping us to feel about what’s happening on the screen…/sigh…just frustrated that movies like this with these great messages and artistry get ignored come award time…i just really want this film and these actors (aaron eckhart too!) to get the attention and acknowledgement they deserve!!!

What I loved is this: The Joker is a character of substance. Like the best literary Big Bads, he actually represents something.

And I know it’s been done before, but what a brilliant compromise: real smile, fake makeup (as opposed to permanent discoloration).

Livia, I think you might enjoy this article: http://filmexperience.blogspot.com/2008/07/naked-gold-man-dark-knight-for-best.html

thanks!! just read it and i have to say that the people that posted comments at the end were very articulate and made very valid points…

one thing that bothers me is the trends in the oscars ~ a good movie SHOULD win on it’s own merits…i didn’t think little mermaid was all that great because they didn’t stick to the original story so now you got whole generations of little girls missing out on the tragedy of the little mermaid giving up her life for not being able to kill the man she loved when he ditched her for the other princess (thanks disney!!) moulin rouge was a far superior cinematic achievement (imo) compared to chicago (although i enjoyed both but in very different ways but oscar is lumping them together??) and beauty and the beast just confused me…so just because no other batman film has won doesn’t mean this one shouldn’t…it seems like they nominate these movies to suck us in and then diss us!! star wars’ nomination was the reason i first watched the oscars lol cause they kept showing clips and with no dvd’s vhs tapes it was like crack whenever they showed the commercials for the movie!! what’s the little check list that oscar has to decide best picture?? lol

dxf ~ i totally agree wtih you on the makeup choice…i was lucky enough to see this with a close friend who is a fan of the comic and he pointed out the little details from the comics that were incorporated into the story (ie joker having no origin and joker in drag!!) my friend phil (jimenez of wonder woman fame) let me borrow a dark knight comic (he was actually the one that turned me onto the xmen especially the phoenix saga) and i just remember it being very dark and bruce wayne was like in his 50’s and there was no robin…there is just too much good material in the comic book world and i am so thankful that the technology exists to do these stories justice!!
