Dark Knight Rises info

So it looks like some news has come out about the 3rd installment of Nolan’s Batman films:

Pretty gusty move casting someone as cleanly beautiful as Anne Hathaway to play Selina! Also man, if they pull off Bane… I’ll be damned happy. Let the excitement begin!

Good catch homie - just saw this on NYT

Well, Hathaway’s freakishly massive eyes do remind me of cats… I think she’ll turn out to be a good cast if they play up the idea of Selena/Catwoman being a foil to Bruce/Batman – I see her playing Selena really well. Catwoman not as much.

Bane is one of my favorite villains in the DC. I’m really excited to see him on screen.

Moved your thread here to the Other Science Fiction with the others about movies.

Omra posted another link about it in the Random News thread a few minutes before Flik…they must have been reading this stuff at about the same time. Hive Mind! Kinda creepy sometimes…

Oh whoops, didn’t see this thread! Thanks Gryper, and the rest of you moderators.

Holy Holy Holy Craaaaaaaaap!
I notice that they didn’t use the words “Catwomen” anywhere, which is interesting. But still…
Bane is cool too, don’t know too much about him but he seems like a formitable villian. Catwomen is probably my favorite comic character ever, along with Batman, and Anne Hathaway rocks. Need to let this sink in! W00t!

If they play Bane as Batman’s twisted mirror image, it’ll be amazing. That’s my favorite interpretation of the character.

I hate how so many writers play him as a mindless thug, he’s so much more than that. I’d easily put Bane alongside The Joker, Two Face and Ra’s Al Ghul as Batman’s most formidable foes!

If Hathaway can sleaze it up a bit, she could be a great a Selina. She’s gotta be sexy and dangerous, and she definitely has the chops to pull off the role.

Very inspired casting for sure.

I like that Nolan decided to go with Bane as a villain. At first I was skeptical of Tom Hardy in this role but then I remember him in Bronson and realized he can probably pull off Bane well.

I think a lot people only know Bane from his appearance in Batman & Robin, which portrayed him as goon with no intelligence. But in his first appearance in the comics he actually comes across as pretty smart guy. He comes with an elaborate plan to beat Batman because he knows there’s no way he can take on Batman in a fair fight. So if you want to know more about Bane, read the Knightfall storyline.

Totally true man. The Knightfall story line was the bomb. I remember reading the novelization of the story for the first time when I was younger. Gosh what year was that again? (almost pulled a Sean and said last week.) Bane was as smart as they came. The way he let all of Bats villains out of the nut barn to tire him out was a classic move. Then when I saw Batman and Robin I was deeply disturbed at how he could only say his name. Later on I read the No Mans Land novel and was happy that Bane was there and smart as ever. I really hope this film portrays Bane as the intelligent charming Criminal he is n

This is true but I see her as too beautiful to be catwoman.

I thought the first part of Knightfall was really well done, but the entire middle and final chapters were pretty weak. I just couldn’t get into Azrael at all and fact is, there was only ever one true successor to Bruce so Azrael never really had a chance with me.

Thank god Dick finally took the mantle in the latest arc in the comics.

Anyways yeah, this movie. It’ll kick all kinds of ass. Nolan’s built enough goodwill with all of his films that even though Hathaway doesn’t spring to mind as an “ideal” Selina, he’ll make it work.

Hell, who saw Heath Ledger completely owning The Joker? I for one didn’t.

Stupid work…always getting in the way of my finding coolness…or late psting of coolness :frowning:

io9.com has a nice Bane primer:

Bane broke the Bat’s back! I think that’s pretty much as successful as you can get, and in order to do that well, you pretty much gotta be at least roughly as smark as him, too.

As far as I know (hivemind, correct me) but Bane was the only one of the Rogues Gallery that not only figuresd out who Bats was, but set teh elaborate trap that allowed Bane ot break him.

Im hoping its this Bane that Nolan uses and not the watered down Bane that the cartoons and later comics have shown. And of course, pleasepleaseplease NOT the Schumacher bane…that was…Just…GAH!

You are correct on that count. The back-breaking actually takes place in Wayne Manor.

I’m confident that Nolan will do this right. If he uses any other version of Bane, no one is going to care about him or find him interesting.

So, who else wants to see Anne Hathaway attempt this look:

I didn’t expect to like the whole Azrael storyline but ended up enjoying it quite a bit. I still don’t see it as a great movie plot, but I’m willing to be surprised.

Hugo Strange, Hush, and Dr. Hurt all figured out who he was but didn’t kick his ass

I don’t have enough drool to express how much.
