So remember that big concert I’ve been trying to organize in part with help from the Dutch embassy? Well, I finally heard back from them today. In the morning I got another positive yet cautious email from my contact at the embassy, telling me that Louis Andriessen (that’s this guy: , by far my favorite composer alive and someone I consider a great idol, whose music affected me more than any other composer’s) and his management were very excited about this project but to keep in mind that excitement does not always translate into money.
So, this evening I open my emailbox and see an email from Louis Andriessen. “HOLY CRAAAAAP,” I think. Well, it turns out it’s from his agent/manager. It reads:
Through _______ I heard about your plans to do a performance of De Materie with the Great Noise Ensemble in april 2010. I informed Louis Andriessen about this and he finds it a great idea. This week I had contact with Stan Paardekooper and Willem Hering of Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, who are preparing an application for a Dutch contribution to the Andriessen events in the US in 2010. They agreed that it would be good to include the Great Noise Ensemble and De Materie in this application.
One of these days I will send director Stan Paardekooper the information I have about your plans. Did you already make a budget of the performance? It will be needed later on, I suppose. But I will ask Stan Paardekooper to get in touch with you directly in case he needs more information.
And of course ____ will keep an eye on us all, so that everything comes together.
Looking forward to collaborate with you,
OH. MY. GODS!!!
It sounds like this project may actually be happening. This is a career making project. The people making proposals for us in Holland are HUGE! (Like, they run the biggest, best funded organizations in the country and can tap some serious funding sources.)
I am positively giddy this evening.
