me too. just not too late this time. starting a 2 1/2 hour drive at 1:30 am was not the brightest idea I ever had.
I still feel bad about that. But it was so great hanging out with you!
GODS I wish we could be there for ComiCon!
I am up for a Friday night meet up. Hopefully we can pick someplace cheap? I spent all my money on the trip, so I won’t have alot to spend there.
Anyway, let me know when it is, and I will be there!
Yeah, the hub and I are thinking about it…
Yeah, Pierre’s Place closes at 9 pm, and is quite a bit of walking distance from the Convention Center, however, there are shuttles that run from the CC, and you can see them listed in a pdf here:
http://www.comic-con.org/cci/forms/cci08_shuttle.pdf
Only the ones in black are serviced after the con is over, so keep that in mind.
I suggest somewhere closer within the Gaslamp, or maybe Little Italy. It’s a trolley ride away from the worst of the congestion. Of course, take into consideration where you park to go to the con so it’s easier (and trolley feasible) to make it back to your car at the end of the evening.
I mention Little Italy, as the hub and I have made use of that way many times before. Honestly, you can just throw a dart and find a good place within walking distance from the con.
It helps to plan your routing in advance. The farther away from the CC, the cheaper the parking.
We are coming from Clairemont Mesa, and we often park at Hazard Center for free and ride the trolley in.
If you are coming in from out of town, please let us know and we can help plan a route/parking strategy!
See you all soon!
I’ll check the Friday schedule and see if there is any panel that people will want to meetup for.
There was one panel I really wanted to see :
5:30-6:15 [adult swim]’s The Venture Brothers— Jackson Publick (creator and voices of Hank Venture, The Monarch, Henchman 24, Pete White and Sgt. Hatred) and Mike Sinterniklaas (voice of Dean Venture) speak about [adult swim]’s original series, The Venture Brothers. Now in its third season, the show picked up after the explosive wedding of The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend from the season two cliffhanger. Room 6B
Since the popular panels are really crowded we may just have to meetup for dinner.
We are coming from out of town. We are staying a little ways from downtown, so we have a rental car. Any help with parking tips would be much appreciated!
Parking Downtown can be a bear- if you are close to the Trolley or Coaster, those are a nice bet! Just be prepared for all the goodies you’ll probably be laden with- though if you’ve been to a con before, you are probably already prepared for that!
Transportation: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_trans.shtml
If you truly want to park closer, look at the shuttle map for the areas serviced. We also like to park near the Star of India and take the shuttle from the Holiday Inn. If you don’t get down to the CC before 8 am, it’s full up!
The big parking structure just south of the CC is a bit expensive, but nice and close- and it fills up fast, too!
Thanks guys, you are really helping!
Ciro’s Pizza on Market, Dave’s Mexican Cafe on 5th, Dublin Square Irish Pub on 4th which are all within walking distance, as is Horton Plaza for shopping, chilling, parking, Starbucks, and great sushi at Sushi Deli 3 on Broadway. Farther afield are The Waterfront bar in Little Italy, Balboa Park has much awesomeness to offer, including Star Trek the Exhibition now running at The Air and Space Museum, and great fun for kids at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center with 45 min. documentaries in IMAX. Finally, after the Con ends on Sunday, the Stone Temple Pilots reunion tour will hit Qualcomm Stadium in the Valley, if you haven’t spent all your money yet. Would love to meet some of you GWCers but the schej is pretty tight; hope to see the new X-Files at some point. A great place to hook up is Saturday night at the Masqerade Overflow Party under the sails in the registration area; they show it all on a big screen, have free nachos, popcorn, and veggies and dip, and they sell drinks and have a geek rave after, all with late night programming going on in the adjacent meeting rooms. In any case, have fun and don’t sweat it if you miss something you really wanted to see, something else cool is happening.
Hey this is FrenchToast from San Francisco.
I met up with the Watercooler group for dinner and a BSG viewing at Annalee’s house not too long ago when MakerFaire was here in the SF Bay Area.
I’ll be in San Diego for ComicCon, so just let me know when and where, and I’d love to meet up with fellow Watercooler listeners. I’ll be staying at Holiday Inn Downtown and volunteering at the Browncoat booth on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. See you there - can’t wait!!
Well I guess we need to pick a time for Friday!!!
Lady D have you plans firmed up any?
What time is good for you guys? I was planning on going to the 5:30-6:15 [adult swim]’s The Venture Brothers panel for sure, but any other time is good
Here is my cell 1 310 529-5949, you can also text me at that number
7 seems appropriate.
People who have a ways to drive oughta chime in- Lady D, etc?
Gaslamp will be packed, but fun!
You said a MOUTH-FULL!
Too many choices!!! eep!
I am also hoping to see the new X-Files movie. So far Sunday night is looking like the best night for me. If anyone is interested, let me know!
7 is a good time, but I might be late. I am going to the Kevin Smith panel and it is over at 8pm. So, if I know where everyone is going, I will join you later. If anyone else is going to Kevin Smith, I will be happy to arrive fashionably late with you.
7:00pm to 8:00pm is good (Friday 25) ,
Everyone will be tired by then
Now a place to meet Ciro’s Pizza on Market?
I’ll be the Asian guy wearing the “Get the Frak off my Lawn” GWC Tee shirt
Won’t be able to go to X-Files on Sunday, I’ll be heading back to LA Sunday morning for 9:00am 'The Dark Knight" IMAX showing. My brother just reserved the tickets.
7 is good for me. the only thing I will slit my throat if I miss is the Dr Horrible panel with Joss & co.
I’m going to see The Dark Knight tonight at 10:30 at the IMAX theater on Mira Mesa Blvd, the X-Files movie at the Pacific Gaslamp theater on 5th at 12:01 Thursday (early Friday morning, tickets still available), the Masquerade overflow party near the registration area Saturday night, and the STP concert at Qualcomm Stadium Sunday at 7:30. (If anybody’s down for any of this it’d be great to have some company.) That leaves Friday night open and I intend to party hearty. I’ll check back on these boards to see if there’s a confirmed place to meet; Ciro’s is great, but a hole in the wall without much space. Perhaps we should meet inside the convention center somewhere. Haven’t gove over the whole schedule yet to see what programming is happening Friday evening, perhaps we could meet outside of a meeting room and go from there.
I would totally be down to meet up with all y’all, but a recent motorcycle “mishap” has me down for the count, so I will have to catch you all next time.
weef!! you okay?
Yeah , I am alright … Hyper extended knee and new respect for my motorcycle and deeper hatred for piss poor SoCal drivers … I will be on crutches for at least another week… LOL
