Classic Sci-Fi Movies

Very good choices for a second arc. I haven’t seen the restored Metropolis yet but it’s available on Netflix instant watch and in my queue. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome aboard, photo, and good list. I didn’t realize that Wells did the actual screenplay for Things to Come. Need to rewatch that one.

The restoration on Netflix is from 2002. Last night I watched the new restoration which adds an additional 25 minutes that were thought lost. That version will be available in November on DVD and Blu-Ray

Thank You Pike. Wells was heavily involved in the production of that film. It’s a bit melodramatic, but fun to watch.

Thanks for that info, I’ll watch for it this fall.

Welcome, Photonutz! I second the Metropolis suggestion. I bet we could also win Sean’s support by pairing the Fritz Lang masterpiece with the interesting 2001 anime homage/reimagining by Osamu Tezuka.

I love that anime. The creator of the manga on which the anime is based on was inspired by a movie poster of the original Metropolis, though never watched the movie!

Another thing Sean might like is the number of firsts in Metropolis - Macro Photography on Models, The Schufftan Process, and the way the blinking lights and moving shadows on the background images of the city are done by lightly erasing and filling in charcoal drawings and shooting it stop motion style!

It really is an amazing film.

You’re welcome. To be honest watching the new version is like watching a new film all together. Having seen nearly every previous version, I can honestly say, I have NEVER seen Metropolis until I saw it Friday night. I’m going again this week - it’s just that amazing.
