Chuck's Virtual Birthday Party: 12/30 @ 10 p.m. ET

So I’m stuck away from home on my birthday, so I thought rather than just sitting in the hotel watching cable I’d do one of my favorite things: chat with GWC friends! If you have the time and would like to join, there’ll be virtual cake, virtual booze, and virtual pantslessness.

Ok, maybe not. But there will be real fun.

Here’s the TalkShoe page for the (unlisted) call:
http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/31972

For those of you new to TalkShoe, it’s really easy. There will be two conversations going on – one via an online text chat and one via voice. To just listen and participate in the text chat, just navigate to the page above and join the call.

But screw that. You want to talk, too, right!

You can join the voice chat by either plugging a headset into your computer, downloading the TalkShoe Pro (“ShoePhone”) software, and connecting with that option. Or if you have an unlimited long-distance phone plan, you can just dial into the number shown on the screen above. (You can, of course, use Skype-Out to dial the number as well.)

Either way you’ll want to sign up for an account with TalkShoe. It’s free, and once you’ve signed up they’ll give you a special code to enter when you dial in so instead of appearing as “Guest23” or whatever you’ll show up as yourself – much better for participating in the text chat, and everyone can see when it’s you talking. All good things.

Hopefully one of the recent TalkShoe pros will chime in here with some better instructions, but this should at least get you started. If you’re planning to participate, you might want to sign up ahead of time and test out your headphone/etc. beforehand to make sure everything’s working.

See you there tomorrow night (if you can make it)!

Woot! I’ll be there.

Bah! This sounds fun, but the sister & the kids are coming over to take down my Christmas decorations! =/ have fun Chuck!

I finally got Talkshoe working. I had to download the latest version. So I should be there. Looking forward to it.

Will do my best to get there as I was bummed I missed the live show. Just walked in the door back from the beach, and guess what site was first on my screen? I missed you guys!

I have no idea whether the technology will agree with me or not, but I’m going to try and call in and say hi. At the very least, I’ll make sure to drop by the live chat. No one should have to spend their birthday alone in a hotel room.

The event time in various zones all over the world via TAH’s world time page:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=12&day=30&year=2008&hour=21&min=0&sec=0&p1=70&sort=1

I shall virtually be there getting my virtual drink on!!

I will be there.

Phone’s on the charger, beer mug in the freezer.
Almost time to kick it, BSG style !!

Timing is going to be tough. I’ll try to be there.

I forgot darn it, I was planning on joining in, but I just remembered.

Oh well there is always next time.

WE’re on now. Give it a shot

Join! Join now!

This was the first time I heard you people’s voices (well, except for Chuck and Audra, obviously). I must say, I liked the experience. I may have to do this more often. You know, if I’m paying attention and don’t fall way behind on podcasts and remember to attend the live one.

This was so much fun. I was a bit dissapointed I couldn’t stick around longer but I had to cook dinner for New Year’s Eve

Did they ever figure out a flight for you? A good hour was spent on the subject!

I know! We all got a bit obsessed about it. There is a Qantas flight, around $2100 plus taxes, so that is really out of my price range :frowning: Although that is less in US dollars, it kind of translates dollar to dollar in many ways compared to what I’m earning

hey peeps,

can someone teach me how to listen to a livecast? how does this virtual birthday thing work? I’m afraid that calling in from Singapore to Dallas is gonna cost a bomb for me ~_~

PS And i’m a total twitter noob. Does that make me a twit? :stuck_out_tongue:

Chuck didn’t record it. At least that’s the official statement.

Post your twitter link in the Twitter thread and join the madness.
