Caprica pilot (spoiler alert)

My friends and I just finished watching the pilot a little bit ago and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. It turned out to be much better than I expected it to be going from the interviews RDM and others have given about the series.

Things I loved:
-Joseph Adama being from Tauron

-Seeing the Cylon start shooting accurately and finishing with the distorted “By your command.”

-The insight into the politics and religious aspects of the Twelve Colonies.

-Young Bill at a C-Bucs game and seeing how bad they lost no wonder the guy prefers the Picon Panthers later on.

Did anyone else get the idea during the pilot that the Holoband and Zoe’s contribution to the “brain” of the Cylons are the reason the Cylons in BSG can project?

another thing i liked in the pilot is the Tauron accent. Now, I couldn’t really understand anything that was said. Was it a new language they’ve created just for the show? Or was that some accent or language that I have not heard of?

i think it was Huttese

I was pleasantly surprised. They very easily could have jumped the shark with the show, but it actually turned out to be quite solid. My only complaint is that the dialogue was a bit weak at times, but realistically that’s to be expected from a pilot. Once the show goes to series and the producers bring a full writing team on board (fingers crossed for Jane Espenson), I’m sure it’s really going to hit its stride.

Jane will be a co-executive producer & showrunner. So she is going to have her hands in the mix. :]

According to the BSGwiki it was Ancient Greek.

I also enjoyed the pilot more than I expected. It’s definitely a completely different show from BSG, yet they mixed in more nods to the BSG crowd than I was expecting (definitely didn’t think there’d be Bill Adama and a Cylon all in the pilot episode). I’m looking forward to a GWC podcast on Caprica (crosses fingers), and we’d better get an Audra Hair Report on Daniel Graystone.

Its interesting to think that not only did the Cylons get the belief in a one true god from Zoe, but I think she is the basis for the whole Cylon personality set. The fact that the Cylons rebel in the first place clearly parallels the actions of a typical 16 year old girl from their parents. In addition, the traits of each of the Cylon skin jobs appear to have elements that were or could have been aspects in Zoe’s personality.

The clinginess of the 8s.

The seduction of the 6s.

The petulance of Cavil.

The ingenuity of the Simons.

The religiosity of the Leobens.

I can’t place a specific character trait to describe it, but I could see Zoe growing up into a Diana type person too.

Then again, Zoe did dress better than Doral, so I don’t know where that came from.

Anyway my initial reaction was that I thought it was a little too cute for the initial Cylon Graystone’s daughter, but now upon reflection it seems to make perfect sense…

I loved Caprica. So many storylines and ideas they could roll with.
Can’t wait to see what they do with it.

Little Willie I expected, but a cylon was definitely a shock.
Especially one so very much like what we recognize as a cylon.

I have purchased the Caprica DVD from Amazon. It should be hear tomorrow. I will come back after I watch it and take a look at his thread. I am trying to stay spoiler free until I see it.

I thought it was pretty good. I am a bit suprised that they already have the basic cylon body. I’m curious though… It seems that the “Zoe” program failed in the cylon body, but Daniel still used that model to whoop up on the little penis bots. Did he know that she was still in there? Did he think it’d be OK to use her bot for combat??? Was it a different cylon body?

I thought it was terrific. The creative types got what they were striving for - a show with a new story that ties in to the BSG story without being dependent on it. Indeed, it does stand alone and may attract viewers who were not captivated by BSG.

These folks have truly created a “believable” society of humans 150,000 years in our past. Watching it I kept thinking, gee - in the RM universe these folks are our distant ancestors - how great is that?

I’ve watched a lot of prequels, but this one strikes me as the best.

And, while it may be a cliche, I still think that when all is said and done Daniel Graystone is going to end up being the OGG. And, if he doesn’t, he ought to. (Are you a god? You will have to ask my children. Wow. Mary Shelly, eat your heart out.)

(By the way - and totally off topic, how the heck did the OGG end up knowing so much about what was going to happen, before it did?)

asw it again last night–really great stuff…everything clicked perfectly.

I was thinking the same thing. However it is kinda obvious and one thing RDM and crew are known for is not doing the obvious thing.

While watching I kept thinking, Graystone even sounds like OGG. The meter of his speech.

Yeah I know. I guess for that reason it really is a long shot. However, maybe they’ll go that way because they are interested in developing “how” it happened. It’s not every day that Dr. Frankenstein becomes his own monster.

See that’s the thing, it’s sooooo obvious that there’s no way they would actually do it. Therefore, in RDM’s mind they should actually do it…

Bugs Bunny logic. Per-FECT!

And he would have gotten a way with it too, if it hadn’t been for us meddling kids…

Yeah - it’s a variation on reverse psychology with a child and we’re the youngsters.

Also, even knowing that it’s coming - because it is too obvious to occur - in the hands of these folks - the “how” it might occur boggles the mind. It probably would make Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader look like a day at the beach.
