I did a search to see if this had already been done and nothing came up, so here it is.

Buffy Anne Summers-

Affiliation: Scooby Gang, Watchers Council
Powers: Supernatural speed, strength, stamina and reflexes. Rapid healing, enhanced intuition and prophetic dreams.

River Tam-
Affiliation: Serenity Crew
Powers: Though never fully defined many are hinted at, empathic and telepathic abilities, enhanced intuition, reflexes, and eye hand coordination. And exceptional fighting abilities which are beautiful and deadly to behold.

So we have a Whedon on Whedon battle.:slight_smile:

If River is on, she’s unstoppable. But Buffy is consistent and always well aware of what needs to be done.

Wow I find it hard to believe this match up hasn’t been done here before!

Hmm. Both about the same weight class I would imagine. Both in awesome physical condition, well-versed in hand to hand and weapons skills. Both really hot…whatever else happens this is going to be one hell of a fight.

We’ve seen Buffy come back from being mostly dead (and well beyond mostly too) so we know she’s got the guts to keep going, even under the onslaught River is sure to dish out. River has genetic and bio-chem engineering on her side, (right?) as well as mental tinkering that’ll make her meaner than probably anything human or demon Buffy has ever faced. With the possible exception of Cordelia…

It comes down to this, in my mind. Buffy has gone up against the biggest baddest before, and won. She’s got the Slayer mojo working for her, and it’s always come through when she needs it. It’s magic, passed down for generations, one girl in all the world…okay, we know this. River is one tough bitca. But Buffy, well, she’s fought everything from hell and back and come out okay.

Then again, River rocks too. She’s a killing machine when she’s in gear. Pretty much unstoppable. She’s graceful and deadly and focused, and I think we can agree Buffy has had issues in the focus department in the past. I think River would get the first serious licks in, hurt the Buffster before she knew what she was up against. And River might even be able to anticipate Buffy’s moves and thots beforehand, which would be a heck of an advantage.

Here’s how I see it. In true Joss fashion, they both die. Mortal wounds inflicted, they fight on. In the end, River goes first, and Buffy hangs on long enough to make a wise-assed quip before passing on.

Just hope it doesn’t happen in your living room. It’ll be a mess, and all your knick-knacks’ll be toast.

I’d have to give the edge (albeit a very slight one) to Miss Tan. She’s psychic and adapts quickly.

Haven’t seen much of Buffy…besides River can kill her with her brain.

Had to go with mah girl, Buffy. She’s died twice and she easily adapts to the situation.

We need a tiebreaker…

That is a tough one. I think it would definitely be a bloody mess by the end. I gotta go with Buffy though since she’s not crazy, which would be a weakness for River IMO. Also Buffy has super strength as well as speed - whereas River only has the speed.

Gotta go with Buffy, she’s faced it all and come through. I’d like there to be a vat of pudding there, though…

I love me some River but Buffy technically is a Zombie seeing as she has died and come back from the dead…a couple times.

Plus Buffy is the chosen one where as River was created

My head says River and my heart says Buffy.

Buffy is pure grit and focus in a quippy package.

River is lyrical insanity, tho she got better after the Miranda revelation. A stable River… alien thots…

Buffy isn’t afraid of death. Been there- done that. She’ll see it through.

But what are they fighting for? I think the reason for the fight matters here.

If it’s just a cage match, I’m with Topgun. Both go out on Buffy’s snarky-suhweet goodness.

Both have ossim homies.

For people saying River is crazy. She was mostly sane by the end of Serenity. Having figured out what they did to her and what Miranda meant turned out to be therapeutic.

So, by the time she took out those Reavers, she had ultra focus. In the bar when she went under a trance, people landed punches on her. During the Reaver fight, none touched her and there were more Reavers than bar hoppers.

That said, I’m still undecided. Watching and reading the debate.

Yes, the post ‘Serenity’ River is a whole different animal than the ‘Firefly’ River. That is what made me think this would be a badass match-up! :smiley:

One thing I think we can all agree on: They’d both would wipe the floor with Echo. d:

Zoe vs. Echo may be interesting.

I think these Deathmatch assumes opponents don’t know weaknesses. They appear in a ring at their peak and without knowledge of the other within reasons.

I’m revisiting this poll after Scoobies vs Firefly. We were just saying how the community tends to vote Firefly. I admitted I voted for River in her Cameron match up.

After waffling, I’ve finally decided to go River again due to her precog, reflexes, and focus. Buffy has strength, endurance and other supernatural abilities, still I believe River can overcome that. I don’t see Buffy landing punches due to River’s precog.

Truth be told, I’m still unsure. If Buffy did land punches, that’s the end of River. But, I’m pretending there’s a gun to my head and making a choice. Maybe I’ve been biased by the fact that Jayne is holding that gun. d:
