I thot they did a great job with the whole Buffy/Spike thing in the finale. Very satisfying. Except for the whole knowing he was going to be on Angel the following season.

TBH, at first I thought they were going with the First being “made flesh” thing as the way to defeat it, like they did with the Mayor. Glad they went in another direction.
