BSG Re-Watch: Crossroads, Parts 1 & 2

Well, here it is. The end of a truly epic three-season BSG re-watch. Thank you so, so much for making this absurdly long off-season bearable through your sharp, witty, and candid observations during the whole process. When we started the re-watch, we were all BSG fans. Now we’re BSG veterans.

As Tigh said way back in the mini-series, “No one’s a rook anymore.”

If you get a minute, let us know what you think of these two episodes. We’ll podcast about them in a few days, and then we’re rockin’ on into <gasp!> new material!

Once again, and I think I speak for all of us, thank you Audra, Chuck, and Sean for keeping us all sane during this drought.

Not all of us, not always …

Sanity? I thought this was my slice of insanity on my otherwise boring world!

RE: Sane

Poor choice of words. How about:

Hopeful
Occupied
Entertained

I watched them both today & something new (for me) struck me, how did Gaeta know it was a #3 that handed Baltar the death list? Granted I know he was lying & trying to make it sound good, but why a 3? Why not a 6? or Doral or Cavil? Maybe I’m looking too much into it, but it’s kind of striking to me.

Interesting side note, Michael Hogan’s (Saul Tigh) wife plays the lead tribunal judge in these episodes.

I took the revealing of Tigh, Anders, and Tyrol, as Cylons much like Starbuck’s fans took her death: not very well. Since these three are some of the most human characters in the show, I felt like I could really empathize with them. Having them become Cylons really felt like a betrayal to me. Hopefully—and I am sure they will—the writers will come up with a reasonable explanation for the Tighlons.

I too would thank the GWC crew for keeping the site going. Thanks to you all, instead of my interest waning during the hiatus, you all managed to get me even more interested in the show. Looking forward to what should be an awesome season.

Agreed…much thanks to the GWC crüe for keeping us entertained and thinking about the show over the hiatus. It is hard to imagine this last year without the weekly podcast reminding us about our favorite show and keeping us thinking about it.

T-minus 1 week and 2 days…

Right there with you. I take some comfort from the fact that Michael Hogan objected to it, but RDM convinced him. I just hope that the reasoning comes through in the final product.

I thought it was Aaron Douglas that had the biggest problem with it.

Wow, just watched em both back to back, and I think it finally hit me we’re about to get new content. Awesome episodes.

Awesomenesses:

  • Galactica watercooler in the room they discover they’re Cylons
  • That shot of jumping into the Ionian nebula blows my mind each time I see it. Audra gets a wicked hero shot of the spinny ship!
  • Tigh: “Thats enough gods damnit!”
  • Racetrack training the nuggets. Starbuck’s badass replacement, eh?
  • Tigh: “Whooaaaa.”
  • Six punching Tigh right back.
  • Romo leaving his cane.
  • Doc Cottle’s reaction to Roslin/Sharon’s freakout.
  • The fact that the power is out for a couple minutes, but Roslin doesn’t react until the power comes back. She seems to be out of it (as does Six). Maybe the signal that ‘activates’ the four is incapacitating/wierdifying the other Cylons (which may affect Roslin as she has some Hylon blood in her), but we don’t see Hera or Sharon to further confirm this.
  • Lee’s speech.
  • Lee ‘forcefully’ gesturing to the launch tube operator to punch him out (ala “get me the frak out there”)
  • Lee’s seemingly unnecessary barrel roll while turning left. Guess its better than just listing lazily to the left
  • Adm. Adama’s still in his dress uniform. This whole engagement seems to be within half an hour of the trial ending.
  • Serene Starbuck. Creepifying.

So. Much. Awesomeness.

Is there any reason for the raptors to get out there as well? ECM maybe?

Great job KMehthas!

Very awesome!

I love that bit.

I was really despising Lee before this. I guess they had to put him through the fire before he could become his true self. I don’t think he’s out of the fire just yet, though.

When I saw that and one of the deleted scenes (the one where Kara shows up in the locker room with Lee when he is grabbing his gear), I thought, “Oh no, this is all a projection.” But that can’t be true and I won’t believe it!

that reminds me… The look of guilt on Lee’s face when Roslin said she had cancer, I think until that moment he thought maybe she was just addicted… I guess he didn’t think it through why she was taking it…

oh, and I’ve been doing my own personal ‘rewatch’ of the GWC podcasts during this season of the rewatch, very interesting to hear the crew’s opinions and speculation early on, and then comparing it to their opinions after a year. Got some good laughs listening to the complaints of the two and four week breaks between some of the season 3 episodes…

I agree but I think he is also realizing how he is being played. Lampkin is messing with his head about his relationship with his father and Adama is pulling the I-know-where-to-hurt-you-if-you-don’t-do-what-I-want-you-to-do parent thing. If you’ve experienced it, you know what I mean. He is being put through the ringer and being tested on every front. Is he man enough to face it? Up until the final speech, he doesn’t seem it. Then he puts everyone in their place. Then the cherry on top, he puts Baltar in his place when he mouths off about Lee’s papa. At that point, Lee redeemed himself in my mind.

Agreed. In regards to Baltar’s jab at the admiral at the end, that really rooted how unredeemable he really is. Baltar faced execution and didn’t learn a drop of humility. Ugh.

To be honest, although I liked the scene, I felt a little spoon-fed. The scene is total exposition for the audience. OK now we want to show you that Baltar hasn’t changed, even after this ordeal. A little too much hand-holding, whatever. Who am I to judge?

According to the video blog, this was the first time that they distributed false scripts and things to hide the true ending. My guess is that the scene with Kara in the locker room was one of those.

If Lee had run down the hallway and ripped his dress shirt off and the flight suit was underneath it’d have been way cooler >_>

Lol! I thought of Superman, too.
