In college we used to do this with Star Wars. Talked about how, even though Alderaan was blown up, everyone still referred to Leia as Princess and “Your (her) Royal Highness,” wondered when everybody slept (this was before the prequels, when we got scenes of people sleeping), how Darth Vader ate, what happened to Leia’s money when Alderaan was destroyed (her assets were frozen when she got to Hoth, of course!), that sort of thing.
Sadly, I went to a conservatory, so most everybody there was already a geek, and instead of annoyed reactions we got a bunch of people joining in on the conversation. Sigh!
Yup Still 86 after my vote again…But really another top suggestion is Buddy. Really Its a space ship not a character from an 80’s male nanny TV show!!!
Last night Stephen Colbert urged his followers to write in “Colbert” as the node 3 name! Those people are crazy, they almost got a Hungarian bridge named after the guy and ran the poll response into eight figures.
Today the site says “Poll results are unavailable.” It is so not right that Serenity is up against Colbert…
I do agree with Stephen Colbert that “Colbert” is better than “Xenu” but I would be disappointed if we couldn’t get Node 3 named after our favorite Whedonverse ship. Even if Node 3 is a “Water Recovery System (WRS) and Urine Processor Assembly” and “Waste and hygiene compartment.”
While Serenity does show to be 86% of the votes, that only counts the NASA suggested names.
The “suggested” names are not figured into that 100% total of which Serenity makes up 86% percent.
According to this article, Colbert has 29,000 votes in the two days since he asked his fans to vote for him. Compare that with Serenity’s overall vote total of 66,000 since the voting began. While Colbert’s vote pace might not keep up, one cannot just look at the 86% that Serenity has and think we are in the clear.
Unless my math is wrong that puts Colbert at ~25% and Serenity at ~57%. This of course is only counting the vote totals mentioned in that article on space.com.
