Boba Fett appreciation thread

Sean alluded to an upcoming Boba Fett rant, so I thought I’d get the party started in anticipation of that.

Once, a friend and I were debating Boba Fett. He said he was the single-most overhyped character in the SW universe – barely does anything, barely says anything. To which I retorted, “Yeah, but he’s totally badass.” And that was about all I could come up with. Which was more than enough for my monkey brain.

So I ask you, O Fans of the Fett… What makes such a minor character such a major cult icon?

And as long as we’re on the subject… When the Boba Fett action figure was first announced as a special-offer-with-proof-of-purchases-from-other-figures-only, the picture they showed had a figure whose edges were more rounded than the one that eventually arrived… Does anyone know if any of those prototypes ever reached the public?

My brother (13 years older than me) took me to see all of the Star Wars movies. I was 6 when A New Hope came out. He constantly reminds me how all I could talk about was Boba Fett. The last 2 Christmases he has given me autographed head shots of Boba Fett. “Beware the force! Boba Fett.”

What really sealed his cool factor to me was that he didn’t talk much. He didn’t have to. That and his armor was kick ass.

Oh yeah, last year my brother bought me a Slave I transformer that transforms into Boba Fett (bot). How frackin cool is that??? I’m 35 and I still love it.

I think your argument “He kicks ass” is all that is necessary.

I’m a huge Fett fan. Hehe, my normal internet user name is always Pat-Fett. To start with, his look his is so cool. Even the slight details of his costume speak volumes about the man. The wear and tear show that this is a guy you don’t frak with. The wookie pelts go even further in telling the same thing. Also I’m a big fan of the Bantha skull.

As for the character himself, he’s a bad ass. He’s the best bounty hunter in the galaxy. You need a job done he does it. The guy was swallowed by the Sarrlacc and lived to tell the tale. If you really dig Boba Fett you should check out his comics. There are some great stories about him. Another comic series to check out is Dark Empire. He has a big role in that series.

He was a big part of the pre-Empire hype. He debuted in the Holiday Special (in animated form) and was a special “send in an bunch of proofs of purchase” action figure. It was the only new SW universe thing for a while.

I can only think of a few things in starwars that are cooler,

He’s the john Wayne of Star wars

i mean i remember watching my old vhs tape of the Return of jedi for the first time. And when i saw him go down into the pit… * if legend is true cause i’ve just got my brothers word on it but as reported* i said “what the hell.” then got clipped in the head when my mom when she heard me swear. I was like 8 years old and even then i knew you shouldn’t take a pimp like Fett out like that.

he was cool cause he didn’t say much, just stood around being a badass and winning the day throughout Empire

Rebellion
Luke lost the fight and his hand,
Han all frozen and turned into a piece of office furniture
Hoth all destoryed

Empire
Vader looses Luke and or fails to kill him
The rebellion is a allowed to escape and rebuild

Boba Fett
Tracks down the falcon when everyone else fails
gets the bounty from the empire and the previously stated Solo desk set to bring back to Jaba

only one of these three had really good day there? coarse he did bang his head.

than fast forward for ROTJ he got hit in the back and falls into a sand pit… sigh…

but on the plus side he made a comeback of a sort in ep 2 cause Jango was kick ass and basically it was Boba fet vs. Obi wan so all was right with the star wars world.

Jango was lame compared to Boba IMO… the main reason being, his armor wasn’t all battle worn. Boba’s armor says “see this dent? that could have been my head… let’s see if yours dents”…

So what the thing was brand new. :stuck_out_tongue: Besides, the dude had a whole entire army cloned after him. You win major cool points in my book for that. Not only was he Cloned, but he personally train the special force clone units.

The Jango vs. Obi fight was like 1000% more kick-ass than any of the action sequences in the 1990s Batman flicks (which entirely suck, in my opinion)… All the rain and cables and sorta-rooftop action made me think of Batman.

Its easy to be badass when your 6ft tall wearing armor with a jet pack and a hand cannon.

Han shot first----Fett was digested!!! nuff said

rog

I have to admit I’m a Fett doubter… I never really got why people thought he was so cool. Yeah, the armor’s cool and all, but seriously? Not so cool.

Especially after AOTC and the whole lame stormtroopers being clones too… and to clarify, I think the stormtroopers are pretty useless in the original trilogy… they have terrible aim.

To explain that, in Ep. 2, they should have had Jar Jar at the cloning facility. And he accidentally bumps a console or something, thus creating some sort of hand-eye definiciency in a whole batch of stormtroopers.

Well by the time the Storm Troopers XFD suck craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap there’s like one battalion that’s still all clones and they rock but all the other battalions are like billy bob from Tattoine like “Uh…I can’t see craaaaaaaaaaap in this helment who designed this nonsense. Does my gun REALLY need to be this small can’t it have like I dunno a barrel so I can actually HIT something?”

That’s it Cas I’m no longer speaking to you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ouch, TF. You’ve really hurt me, and on this our (?) nation’s holiday. For shame!

I’m open to Boba Fett being less tool-ish than his father, and I guess I can understand the appeal of him in the OT, though that appeal doesn’t extend to me. It’s just that the kid Fett in the prequels is not cool at all in my mind. Even Zam the failed assassin is cooler than child Boba Fett.

As you can tell, I’m still talking to you!

Hey we all have to start somewhere. I was a little awkward when I was a kid too. :stuck_out_tongue: Personally I didn’t find Boba half as annoying as little orphaned Annie. I actually liked seeing Boba’s orgin. You try watching your father be slain before your eyes and see if you turn out to be a well adjusted citizen of the galaxy.

As you can see I was jesting.

Does it really require more than that?

Besides the fact he was the leader of a warrior-race and was the only person to talk back to Vader and live…

Knowing a character’s back story helps a little too you know.

This is true Steve…but sometimes knowing that he’s totally bad ass (sorry barb) is enough!

He’s a Space Spartan

If somebody, anybody, calls him lame that’s the absolute only thing you need to say to them

What a feeling!
