Bionic Woman

I’m not the smartest person, don’t airlock me for it though, I absolutely shrieked when I saw Chief. I miss seeing these people in new stuff. I also saw Kat in the incredibly shortlived Hidden Palms, and Racetrack in Kyle XY (yeah I watch some bad TV, it’s summer, I gotta watch something) -I know these people have real names, I just don’t see them as real.

wow, starbuck, chief, and romo lampkin.

nice.

i can see it now:

episode 12, the bionic woman must get some repairs, only to have them done by…

dr. gaius baltar!!!

Yah it makes it that much more exciting to watch, to see who might show up next.

Did you all notice Jammer? He was the medic in the helicopter. It seems that every good guy in BSG has turned bad in BW and every bad person in BSG is good in BW.

Gotta love David Eick.

Crazy I just finished watching the show for the second time. I saw a rough preview copy last week. I’m a little sad. Jamie’s sister in the original cut was hard of hearing or partly deaf. I liked the real world feel of it. I felt it brought light to a subject most people don’t deal with day to day. For me it is a part of day to day life. My son is partly deaf and has autism. I don’t feel we need to see very disability all the time on TV I just felt it bought something different to the table.

Over all the show still was great! Can’t wait until next week.

There is a very small pool of actors who can play in Sci-Fi in Vancouver. Quite a few folks on BSG also played on Dark Angel in the past. Athena, Chief, Gaeta, and probably others had roles in that show. The gentleman who portrayed Jammer also played a bad guy for an episode of the now-cancelled Painkiller Jane. The community there is small and, if you watch lots of Sci-Fi Channel, you will see plenty of familiar faces if the show originates from the Vancouver area.

Well Katee has indeed said that she modeled her acting after Six, to an extent.

And seeing Badger in the aging makeup cracks me up!

Wait, I’ve only seen that version with her sister (Ann from Arrested Development) being deaf, I thought it was cool too, how did they change it?

Well the fight scene was wonderful and I think it set up a lot of intriguing storylines for the series. I hope it does well and doesn’t get canned. If it did, you would hope Skiffy would be smart enough to pick it up since they’re already showing reruns on Friday or Saturday night.

I also love how Starbuck is like the perfect enemy from high school. lol I can’t really explain it, but she reminds me of my mortal enemy from middle and high school. It was actually a little fun going at it with her, since she was very Evil (capital “e”).

Well now she’s not deaf, just a girl with a lot of problems. That was the original pilot they submitted to NBC or Universal or whoever to pick up the series and I’m guessing the network asked them to change a few things to bring in a bigger audience. It’s also the one which got leaked to the net.

I just watched this tonight and, while it wasn’t the best thing I’ve seen in a while, it wasn’t bad. The dialogue was not as stinted as I was led to expect. There were some plot holes here and there, sure, and whoa, was that Aaron Douglas? What was he doing in this? (Not that I mind. It’s nice to see the cast of BSG get other work. Can we expect other BSG cameos on this show later?) But, overall, it was watchable. I’ll stick with it for a while and see how it develops. I was glad to see how Katee Sackhoff really steals the show in this. She really is fantastic.

Ekzackly. It is waaaay better than most of the schlock out there, so I’ll give it a few more weeks to develop. Meanwhile, I’m going to think of it as the beginning of the wave of artificial intelligence engineering that eventually became cylons. Kateee Sackhoff is the original cylon. What happened before will happen again.

I saw it! I liked it! The Cheif was in it and so was Romo! and Starbuck was in it! I hope this show does well.

So, was I the only one who noticed that in the aired pilot the sister was:

  1. Not deaf
  2. Not annoying as frak
  3. Actually kinda hot

Well, that was … interesting.

I watched the show last night and wanted to give myself a little time to digest it before providing my review.

In short, I would say this is a mixed-bag rough draft of a show that is potentially interesting. Solid moments, but they seemed linked together by a tapestry of non-sequiturs.

The Good

  1. “Time out” what an awesome way to have the evil villian take a moment while smoking on a ciggy. Of course she has to explain that the ciggy can’t hurt her, but that is fine.

  2. Truck crash - Holy frak. This made both my wife and I leap out of our seats. Well done.

  3. Michelle Ryan - Good choice. Not a drop dead beauty, but oh those eyes. Needs a little help from the writers on better lines (see #1 of the bad)

The Bad
1.THE DIALOGUE WRITERS MUST BE SHOT. Oh my, how did David Eick let bombs like, “If we do this . . . we do it on my terms”. C’mon! No actor can deliver that line. But wait, they give her another one as seen on the preview, “You know, this whole save the world thing, let’s give that a shot”

  1. I feel like the cinematographer from the Matrix and the producer of Coyote Ugly got together and had a child whose god parent is the director from “Crouching Tiger”. I am sorry, but I couldn’t see bast Katee’s WAY super-sleek styled rain quoffed hair in that fight scene.

  2. Katee’s acting. Look, we know the woman can act…why make her into an automoton? Her delivery was so stilted (except in the bar scene/bathroom scene, which showed me I am right in this criticism) that every time she delivered a line it ripped me out of the moment.

  3. The little sister. Whine. Whine. I hate you. Whine. Repeat. Puhlease.

  4. Mark Sheppard’s “aging” Wow. Bad makeup job. I thought it was just me, but my wife commented first, “That guy isn’t old enough to be his father.” With that final shot she just laughed at his makeup. Not a good sign.

GLARING ERROR

  1. Once they explained how the whole Bionics thing worked I thought to myself, “Wait a minute. So, they insert nanites to rebuild the body parts, even making them stronger. Ok. But then the boyfriend says that he added additional microchips to her brain for the ‘enhancements’” Is it just me, or did it seem like he didn’t have to add the ‘enhancements’. What he wanted to do is repair her legs, arm, eye and ear. Fine. Mission accomplished. Why then go and add the military hardware? It would seem he didn’t have to. This is either a HUGE plot gap or a signal that something more nefarious is going on. My chips are on plot gap.

Conclusion
All in all an interesting start. What is holding this show back is that it is trying to be a whole bunch of wildly different things at the same time without much thought as to why it should be those things. The show needs to find its own voice, its own style, its own look…not borrow everyone else’s. When that is done and the dialogue writers have been hung by their toenails and flogged with copies of “Great Expectations”, we may have a good show.

Saw “Chuck” and “Journeyman” recently and thought they were pretty good, but I’m a sucker for spy shows and time travel stories.

Did you notice the very brief cameo by the actor who played Jammer (anyone know his name?) as one of the med evac guys in the helicopter?

I held out and watched the pilot on nbc last night. It didn’t suck. And I totally cheered when Aaron Douglass made his appearance. But the actress playing Jaime just isn’t that good. Unless she hits the steep part of the learning curve really fast, I don’t know if I’ll stick with it. Except for Katee’s excellence and the great sfx car crash I wasn’t wowed.

Yeah, I’m with ya on that SB. THe best parts of the series so far were the BSG appearances (esp. the Chief) but I had issues with Jaime as well. I didn’t quite believe her as “the tough chick” yet. Katee looked like she could whoop anyone at anytime, as you might expect. Maybe Jaime will get up to snuff soon and it will head in the right direction.

As pilots go though not bad. I loved the cameo by Mark Sheppard and the fact that he is coming back, SWEET! I also dig that they got the guy from Witchblade.
