Stop it, FT, we know it’s you!
Caught like a red herring.
Dang. Am I that obvious?
It’s the smell of cheap Scotch.
DS9 had the most/best battle scenes and the best characters/interactions.
Voyager had a great premise, but in the end, was a bit of a letdown.
I agree about Voyager. Still I thought the show was interesting once they started bringing the Borg in.
In the beginning perhaps, but I think they overplayed it over the next three seasons.
I still believe that Voyager had the best series finale of all the Star Trek series.
Y’know what? TNG, DS9, and Voyager had series finales that summed up their particular series.
TNG went out with what it started, the Q trial of humanity. I thot that was perfect. It was fitting and satisfying like the series. It past the torch as the torch had been past to it.
DS9 went out in a blaze of glory. A huge massive culmination of all the story lines for all the characters. It was amazing and closed the book on a series that was character driven and operatic.
Voyager went out like most of its episodes. Huge bulid up…will they get out of it? Oh…whut? The credits are rolling. What did I miss? Did they? Oh wait. Where is that rewind button. Fizzle. Fizzle.
The Original Series was a different animal and don’t even talk to me about the series finale for ‘Enterprise’. What a slap in the face? Oh you guys couldn’t even get through 7 seasons like the rest so we’re gonna call in some seasoned veterans. Pathetic.
That was lame the wat Enterprise ended. The thing that makes it even sadder is that IMO the final season was awesome with all the little multi arcs.
Put TOS and Enterprise aside - they don’t count.
Episode in/episode out I think TNG was the strongest - once the show really found it’s legs (and they got rid of those unfortunate uniforms and Barcaloungers on the bridge). And reigned in Patrick Stewart, who at the start of the series sounded like John Lovitz playing “The World’s Greatest Thespian” several years back on SNL (“Acting!!!”)
Voyager - well to this day the ending still gives me a headache.
Then the most ambitious of them all - DS9. I’m sure that I am in the minority when I say that the last few seasons disappointed me (despite great battle scenes) - in comparison to the early years. That show was strong - right from the beginning, because it was character driven, the characters were complete (for TV of that vintage) and real world topics were addressed (I thought) better than in the other series. (In fact, when you think about it, the argument can be made that in several ways DS9 in the early years was the closest in mood, etc. to BSG of all the ST series.)
I still haven’t seen any episode from any ST franchise that I thought was better than “Duet” in the first season of DS9 - as I’ve written here before. It’s pretty much perfect. Just one man’s opinion though.
The frak they don’t!
Well, except Enterprise. That never happened.
Now I haven’t seen a lot of Trek (I’ve seen eps of all of them, but the only one I’ve seen all of is DS9), but yes. So good.
I can kind of see what you mean about the later seasons. When Bajor’s situation was the focus there was some great opportunities to explore many moral issues. I did however, love the feeling of galactic importance that the stories began to develop in the later seasons too. I remember the amazing ‘Oh Crap!’ moment from the episode when O’Brien, Worf, and Garak were sent to the Dominion prisoner camp and you realize that Bashir and the Klingon commander were both Changlings. That gave DS9 the same level of paranoia that the first season of BSG had with all the guess as to who might by Changlings/Cylons. Hmmmm, come to think of it is BSG just a rip off of DS9?
Duet was a fantastic episode, but my favorite of all the series will always be The Visitor.
TOS doesn’t count because we’re talking finales, and I don’t think “Turnabout Intruder” can be considered one unless of course the five year mission was cut short because the crew could no longer take Kirk seriously
Yeah. Yeah, Pike. Chill, bro. You know I love me some TOS. I guess their finale would be considered ‘The Undiscovered Country’. Or better yet, considering the topic and…ahem…my post. What kind of episode would define TOS as a finale? Take into consideration the movies and Kirk being promoted to Admiral. Hmmm…would Harry Mudd make an appearance?
What would be the outline for a TOS finale? I’m a gonna have to think about that one. Me needs some input. Oh me brain is bubblin’.
Wrath of Khan.
Just like the last episode of Star Wars was ESB.
LaLaLaICan’tHearYou
Well if you aren’t listening then I guess the Ewoks will be able to sneak up and bite you really, really hard on the ankle…
I imagine the ending would involve Gorn on frakkintalos love.
Perhaps my words were poorly chosen. TOS is the most important of the series, and not just because it was the first. Also, it has individual episodes that rank with any that came later in the franchise. And, as far as guest stars go, I’ll stack William Windom’s performance up to any. My thought was based on the overall strength of the series - that last year was pretty rough. Take it from someone who actually watched it the first time it aired.
As for Enterrpise, what a missed opportunity. Some episodes and characters were very good. But the creative types behind the scenes seemed to me to have run out of steam.
As I wrote (sort of) BSG owes a lot to DS9. And Harris Yulin, who payed Maritza, in Duet still deserves an Emmy of some sort.
The Visitor is terrific and, as you know, the #1 episode in the view of may afficianadoes. I’m just not a time “travel” type. I’m more of a starships with telephones that have wires type.
To wrap things up, and establish what a soft touch I am, my favorite moment from DS9 is at the end of the not especially memorable Shadowland, when Odo turns himself into a child’s toy top. Amazes me at it sweetness every time.
Considering the hardships the DS9 crew had being on the frontlines of the Dominion War and that the Voyager crew had being all alone in the Delta quadrant against the Borg, Species 8472, etc…I really hated the next Gen movie Insurrection What the frak was Picard and company (including a very conveniently placed Worf) doing on a planet getting more youthful and falling/refalling in love?! The top of the line Federation Starship and crew play no part in the Dominion War, beyond B.S. diplomatic missions?!
Even the great Antonio Salieri/Omar Suarez could’nt help me to enjoy that movie.
