Well said, Thot. It’s great to see that you and future me agree!!
I had to vote ds9…thou my favorite is TOS, ds9 is simply the best.
especially on the Enterprise should have more visiting unknown planets and dealing with prime directive stuff.
maybe have them figure out along the way that sharing technology with or even revealing themselves to cultures not yet have inter-stellar capabilities would be a bad thing.
TOS - Kirk, McCoy, and Spock are my favourite characters. I never saw DS9, TNG, VOY, or Enterprise but I expect they are pretty good.
Yeah, as much as I loved watching voyager (it was the first Trek I really watched regularly), I don’t think any of the characters on the shows have as much depth or connection to one another as Kirk, Bones, and Spock (except maybe Picard). They’re great together.
It’s funny how that plays out. The original conceit (after the first pilot) was that it was going to be Kirk/Scotty/Enterprise, i.e., the captain and the engineer would have different hopes and expectations for “their” ship. The Kirk/Spock/McCoy dynamic happened largely because the writers saw the actors and started to write for them (a bit of the Kirk/Scotty dynamic survived, and the McCoy thing sorta carried over from the first pilot.)
Point being, it’s a rare show that comes out the gates firing on all cylinders. TOS got its legs really quickly, and its out-of-production-order airing actually helped.
Awesome, I never knew that about the show, but it makes total sense. That’s another sign of a great show – when the writers work with the actors and highlight the strengths of the show. So many programs go the wrong way of the writers forcing a script or plot that just doesn’t work with the cast they have.
