Are you going to see 2012?

I will withhold my commentary, but I am curious if people are generally excited about this or rolling their eyes.

Im a John Cusack fan (hes in this movie right?), but the fact that people think this is really going to happen has my stupid radar blaring so loudly the mere mention of this movie makes me upset. So, no, definitely wont be watching.

I hear you on both counts. Yes, John Cusack is in this…but in these kind of movies you could have a sock puppet in the lead role (no 'talos, you keep your frayed one out of this).

I also agree with you about people thinking this is going to happen. It is like people don’t research anymore, are given half a thot and they go hysterical.

People should start by reading this and get frakking informed.

It’s a movie by the people responsible for such cinematic masterpieces as the 1998 version of Godzilla and The Day After Tomorrow. I’m saving my money, thank you very much.

Gotta go “Baltar” on this one. I have zero interest, but The GF thinks it’d be fun. We’ll see.

probably–only cuz I like watching things go boom

but even this may be bit over the top

I most defiantly will be going to see the movie. I am going in expecting to see absolutely no story, completely implausible/impossible acts of physics, reality, and little to no common sense. I am going soley for the action and destruction scenes which Emmerich does really really well. And these types of movies are meant for the big screen with the great sound system. I am however waiting to go see it next week when the ticket prices are $4.50 .

No, no, and no. I’m annoyed that people are giving credence to “the world is going to end in 2012!” stuff, and the blatant cultural appropriation of the Mayan calendar. Um, seriously? Let’s look for mystical magic indigenous peoples who are obviously more in touch with the cosmos than the rest of us, and just take their calendar like that! (just in case - /sarcasm)

That said - I’m sure it’ll be another mindless action flick. But the premise rubs me the wrong way.

I agree with Mr. Lister, Sir. I can’t see this winning any major awards or showing up as an example of screenwriting brilliance, but it might be fun. I enjoy Cusack, Ejiofor, Platt and Peat - so we’ll see. Plus the only other thing coming out this week is PIRATE RADIO and the missus wants to see that, so…

if i vote with my wallet for ludicrous plotting and ridiculous special effects, it needs more space or swords than this.

Um, hate to break it to y’all but the world is going to end in 2012. Bolon Yokte will return for the re-creation celebration. You know how the galaxy rotates? Well, last time our little blue planet entered this part of the galaxy a portal was opened and inter-dimensional beings emerged giving their knowledge to the Mayans. Anywho, that knowledge was passed down to us via some genetic virus that effects our sub-conscious. The message was that our planet will be re-cycled in 2012 instead it has been distorted into global warming and resource depletion.

Well, now you know the truth.

I agree with pretty much with Lister and I will be seeing it in a few weeks when I can use my free pass on it.

Am I “going” to see this in the theater? No.

Am I “going” to rent it on Red Box for $1 when it comes out on DVD? Possibly.

Or watch this video with Neil deGrasse Tyson and listen to someone who knows…

I will wait to see it on DVD from Netflix.

No, no, no: The world will end with the second coming of the composer Alexander Scriabin, who will finally have completed his magnum opus, Mysterium, at which we will ALL be participants; there will be no observers. Then, we will all reach the “final mystery.”

SILLY!

(The sad thing is, I’m not making this up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysterium_(Scriabin) Composers can be so kooky!)

We know, Armando. We know.

They’re creepy and they’re kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They’re all together ooky,
The Addams Family…erm composers.

Funny how one word can trigger some of the useless trivia trapped in a human brain.

Sorry, carry on.

The same thing happens to me when someone yells ‘Stop!’. I always add a silent 'Hammertime".

No for me. I’m a big Cusak fan too, but this is easy to pass on. I can’t imagine why a studio would open a film about the end of the world. We’re kinda living that right now with the economy, joblessness and our huge political debates on healthcare. I need uplifting and entertaining films right now.

Dude, there are times when some small word in conversation will trigger entire scenes from, say, Arrested Development or other comedies I’m into and I’ll start giggling maniacally to myself. My wife thinks this is hillarious.
