Anyone interested in reading (1st time or re-read) the entire Harry Potter series?

We’d do one book a month, discuss in chunks, perhaps each week. Maybe we could discuss here but have a weekly audio discussion as well. I’ve just been wanting to discuss the books really badly. The latest arc has given me Potter fever again. Any interest???

I voted maybe because I am just finishing up a reread. (1st time listen to the audiobooks, actually.) I’ve already found myself wanting to listen again from book 1 because of the podcast arc, so, yeah.

Depends on if I can find them…

I said yes, because each time i have read or listened to or watched these i find either new things I missed or things that mean something new to me. especialy, the first Postions class, and a ton of stuff starting in P.O.A. and beyond…

I am in.

I’m just now wrapping up my re-read (about 100 pages into DH), and after this plus a film re-watch into HBP and listening to the 'cast, I’m sure I’m going to be Pottered out.

This is a “yes”, but I almost put maybe because of “future cloudy, try again” results in my personal life.

HA!

I’d would be a time management thing for me, I think… but I’d be willing to try.

I love the books and am always up for a re-read.

Actually, listening to the podcast I was thinking of setting up threads for each of the books in the Book Discussion thread  if people would be interested in doing it in an organized manner (1-month, etc), we can set that up. Yay!

(and if not… having threads for them would still be awesome. Because I’m sure many of us have much to say about them)

Hey, Casilda, hope I didn’t step on your toes. I figured with your book discussion group duties, that I’d just see if a smaller group wanted to do the Potter books. I’m in favor of doing it in an orderly manner if we can. Any thoughts on this?

No, not a problem at all  Great minds think alike, hehe!

I know my tendency with the Potter books is to breeze through them all at once, but I know not everyone reads the same way. It’s probably better for my work if I keep it to one a month

So people: vote please, and then we can all get reading-discussing-chatting-etc

It’s probably easier for everyone else to keep up if we do a sequential monthly read (there’s still the regular book club, too!)

Can we start this around August 1st, after the new movie is out? I’m still reading Neuromancer! :frowning:

Heh. I had to stop WWZ to read P&P&Z.

Oy! Can’t stop now… and I’m blonde, can barely comprehend stuff just reading one book…let alone 2 at a time.

I am re-reading now for the movie but one can never get too much Potter and a group discussion would be great. Talkshoe would be perfect so that others could always listen later.

I had a thot that I wanted to share: Perhaps we read them backwards? Meaning, start with the Half-Blood Prince so it is freshest in our minds as we go see the movie and work backwards, or simply read Half-Blood Prince first and then start at the first book?

Yes, we definitely wouldn’t start until 8/1.

In a word, no.

I’m a purist. I would never consider reading this series backwards.

It would be like watching the Star Wars series backwards or reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy backwards. Or watching Galactica or Firefly backwards. The emotional impact would be all wrong. (hello, spoilers? ;))

No, I think I’ll stick to reading this series from beginning to end. Anyone who wants to read it in an experimental fashion is welcome to do so on their own or form groups on the side. I just personally cannot bring myself to do it that way. I suppose I’m a bit narrow-minded, particularly when it comes to reading a series.

I’m with you, seriously. If the movie wasn’t being released in a week I would be all for a linear approach. I was simply acknowledging that the newest movie was coming out and tackling that subject matter first before walking through the series.

But! more books! is always! better!

:stuck_out_tongue:

There appears to be plenty of interest. As Keara said, we shall formally begin 1 August. If you’d like, feel free to read before then, too. As we move into August we can figure out if people want to do Talkshoe or something similar in addition to a forum thread
