I am only 14 so I cant travel to meet up for any meet ups. But I live only 30 miles from chicago so my dad can drive me.
I would be up for a Chicago meet up…but I am starting to think I am the only GWC member that is in Chicago.
See my point Airlockbaltar…
That no one else posted tells me that GWC has not yet broken into the Chicago market.
Maybe you might have better luck with a different city that might also be close to you.
But it plays in Peoria! I’d be up for driving to Chicago for a meet, it’s only 2 1/2 hours drive away. Just need to plan for good driving weather.
So is it only the three of us listening to GWC in the Midwest???
Naw, there’s a few others…Glimfeather is in St. Louis. Maybe other’s don’t want to admit they’re from the Mid-west…this time of the year I’d rather be from anywhere else that’s sunny and warm.
Well…call me sentimental but I like the Midwest and all the seasons… but I admit it sucks I can’t drive my Corvette in the winter!!! Nothing better than driving down a winding open road with the top down.
I would be up for a Midwest meet up…but it looks like it would be only a few of us (would be better if we had more people) and we need to do it somewhere where Airlockbaltar can attend.
I really don’t mind the seasons either. But after several weekends in a row with ice or snow or both along with freezing fog…well I do have grype about it now and then. Now today I got up and opened windows in the kitchen as it’s 52 degrees before 8 a.m.! A taste of spring to come.
Yes yesterday was great!!! Was actually 60 degrees here in Chicago. The news said it was a new record broken from 1907!
Anyways our thread here was mentioned in the pod cast, I should correctly say Airlockbaltar’s tread was mentioned (he is the one who started it); way cool and great job Airlockbaltar!
There are three of us so far, there has to be some others near by…I know Peoria somewhat and how long it takes to drive to Chicago from there Gryper; but if you’re willing it might be a nice thing if we did have a meet up try to make it closer to Airlockbaltar since he can’t drive.
Lets keep posting on this.
Peoria hit 65 as a high and also a record warm low of 47 yesterday! And it’s 66 out right now…unfortunately I’m at work or I’d have some windows open for fresh air.
Haven’t listened to the podcast yet…really cool that Airlockbaltar’s thread got mentioned.
I don’t mind the drive up to the Chicago area at all. So between you and Airlockbaltar pick a place to meet…maybe some place for pizza or similar. Places-I can get maps to and from most any place. Work schedule-will have to be on a weekend day for me. And any weekend up until about the end of Feb will work for me.
WOW…65 degrees…good for you guys!
OK on the time frame…I would hope we could others besides the three of us.
Work is crazy right now, so I don’t know if I can get away, but I love taking the train to Chicago. Weekends are, unfortunately, when I’m busiest, but keep posting and maybe I can work something out.
Weather’s pretty awesome here at the moment, too. My place doesn’t hold the heat really well, so it’s nice to feel some pseudo-springtime temperatures. I went for a walk in the park yesterday, sat under a tree and read a book. sigh Now if only I could spray paint the grass green and sew a few leaves on the trees.
Records broke again yesterday…67 high and low warm record of 50. Of course being Illinois…thunderstorms, 1.53" of rain, tornado watches/warnings, and now flood watch since we are supposed to get another 1 to 1.5" of rain today.
Maybe more will appear due to the plug in the podcast.
Work is crazy this time of the year for me too Glim. Weekends are the only time I have off, and I’m still on call then.
I think we should see if a few more in the mid-west show up in this thread before we set a date.
Friday’s are bad for me…I don’t get off of work until 2:30 AM the earliest…
Airlockbaltar has a new thread for people to sign up for who is up for the meet up…lets all get our names on it.
just let me know. Evenings are best after 5 in the city. Weekends are anyones game.
I’m good for a Saturday or Sunday. I work until 4:30ish weekdays and don’t know my way round that great for an after dark meet. Takes me 2 1/2 + to get up there to start.
Any ideas where would be a good place? Keep in mind that AirlockB is a minor and will have to have a parent bring him. Museum? Planetarium? I know where those are without getting lost.
AirlockB, what ideas do you have?
Gryper, I know a place called Lucky Strike. It’s a awsome midnight bowling place which has a AMC theater in the same building.
Gryper…
I have made the trip form Chicago to Peoria a hundred times…I might be able to help you with the directions if you are up here after sunset.
The bowling alley sounds like a good idea.
Oh I have no problem getting from here to there and back in the dark…it’s just in the Chicago city itself. And I looked up the Lucky Strike online…if it’s on E. Illinois then I know how to get there, dark or otherwise.
Is Ohio St still one-way heading east and Ontario one-way heading west?
'Cept I can’t bowl. I have a bad hip but I can watch…just don’t make me score keeper. I suck at math!
