And so it begins......

there’s not a great deal I can add to pernnfan’s excellent analysis of the episode, admittedly it does rahter overflow with Cain hatred, in fact tbh I think I cna track her reaction to the shows through female characters she dislikes.

Dexter season 1: the Lt.
Primeval season one: (non female) LEster
BSG: umm six, ellen tigh, Admaril cain
SPN: nobody (yet).

There were some truly stunning space combat scenes, wi8th very nice classical music over the really really big explosions of the resurection shop et al.

The focus here I think should be on Lee, he essentially gave up, was ready to just float there, peacefully and die this is a theme I know will be revisited throughout the rest of season 2.

Something which Adriana has not mentioned is we are seeing even more of a sympahtetic Baltar, had he not given the Six model the gun then she would not have had the opportunity to shoot Admiral Cain and then we wouldn’t have had the Adriana Victory Dance ™.

Yep you have to get past season 2 first. Otherwise there would be other spoilers shown to you.

so now we have epiphanies…

We now have a new six on the block, one I refer to as “accountant six” (I belive she is known as Gina) and her interesting experince with Baltar
who, being Baltar, tries to come on to her, she of course refuses him.

Out “a” arc mostly involves the new “galactic peace” movment and also of course, the decision to eliminate the cylon Baby, gotta love Doc Cottle 's attitude.

Some interesting flashbacks for LAura and nice paralells drawing between her negotians with the union head of teachers (then) and the peace movement (now).

Also, the secretary for educaiton was frakking President Adar?? who knew.

Sorry this is so short we watched a lot of TV last night and I’m a little… fuzzy.

I leave the floor open to the rest of you

Just a side note, before I recap the latest episode, I do NOT have a female hate focus in every show we watch!!! Yes, BSG abounds with them, but in all fairness, that’s the only show where I’ve blanket stated that I hate a certain character. No, I don’t like Le Guerta on Dexter, and Lester on Primeval does annoy me, but I do not hate either one of them. Sticks tongue out at Phaze

Now, for the episode recap.

This was the Black Market episode, and to be honest, I don’t really have all that much to say about it. I didn’t terribly like this episode, so while I was taking notes, not much input.

I was curious who this female Lee was with at the beginning of the episode, and somewhat surprised to discover that she was, in essence, a prostitute. There was absolutely NO back story previous to this episode to set this situation up, which I find rather odd for BSG.

Really not surprised to find that Fisk was involved in the black market. He always did strike me as a shady character, though nowhere near as bad as his predecessor.

And yes, for those who might be wondering, I was quite pleased when Lee shot the black marketeer. He deserved it, quite honestly, for what he had planned for those kids. Kudos to Lee for making it clear that children were not to be touched, on pain of his wrath.

I’m*posting on behalf of us both here, as you may have noticed our recaps have been getting shorter and shorter, I’ve discussed this with Pernnfan and we’ve agreed to slow down the rate of bsg we are mainlining we won’t be posting so much about it, going to slow down the episodes a little.

please bear in mind it’s not that we like the show any less we just feel a slightly slower rate might make us appreciate the show more.

Alan (And pernnfan by proxy)

It’s kind of like when you eat the same thing night after night after night. Eventually you just don’t appreciate it as much as you used to. But if you wait a while before having that item again, you love it just as much, if not more, than before.

That’s the principle we’re trying to apply here. Enhance our enjoyment and appreciation of BSG by making ourselves wait for it.

all good. Glad to see you guys are enjoying it

well, season 2 gets better after the black market episode.

so, as those of you who follow me (nope, none of you fo9llowing @dragonessana/pernfann on twitter yet) know we dove back in to BSG tonight with the excellent and Kara-heavy episode scar, a real two hander this one (in the parlance) between Cat and Starbuck, lotsa flashbacks and lead ups to this bit with the fortuitious discovery of elemtns requried to make new vipers, yay new viper.

There’s a lot of flashback stuff, beghinning with 90 odd hours back and slowly working our way forward, the other focus being scar and KAra’s ongoing battle with him.

It is, despite the apprent focus upon the battle, mostly a character episode, it’s about the interaction between KAra and Cat (Sorry forget the pilot name) and also lots of flashbacks to Kar/Anders with some really cutting remarks from Kat on Kara’s drinking and Kara on Kat;s stim addiction.

This is IMHO the core of the show, as I’ve said elsewhere it was never a show about space combat, it was always about the human characters, a sort of west wing in space.

There are some other touching scenes but as we’ve been away so long I’m asking pernnfan to comment on this episode as well.

I’ll also leave her to explain why we won’t be comenting as often and don’t worry, it’s a good (for us) reason.
Phaze
on the “yeah there are misspellings and much which is apochrichal up there but I’m too tired to correct it” ID

Wow, not really sure where to start… guess I’ll start with the explanation that you were promised lol. Just over two weeks ago, I started working!! While this is an amazing thing in the “need money to travel” department, it’s a little harder in the “time on Skype” department. We’re coping with it, figuring this whole thing out with my work schedule, so that’s why we won’t be watching BSG even every other day as we had originally intended to do.

Now, for my assessment of the episode… and my notes

While watching the recap of “previously on BSG” (which phaze and I both agree seemed conveniently longer than usual), I have to wonder… When Tyrol thinks back to that time that Boomer was talking about the raider they captured, does he see the weirdness in a new light? I’m guessing he does.

“One Tigh on a ship is enough” - Cat Isn’t that a bit harsh? Particularly considering Kara’s history with Tigh?

Cat is one cocky … you can fill in the rest. She’s arrogant, and while I liked her before this episode, I don’t like her currently

Sharon had a point when she mentioned that having the raiders reincarnate just made sense.

At times, Sharon seems to have trouble remembering she’s a Cylon, and not the Boomer that everyone knew and loved, once upon a time. For that matter, so does Starbuck.

“You’re fine with the dead guys, it’s the live ones you can’t deal with” - Lee Ouch Lee, really??

I’m surprised Kara didn’t get Cat in worlds of trouble for punching her like that. I mean seriously, striking a superior officer has consequences. Big ones usually

At the end, when Cat is rubbing it in Kara’s face that Starbuck didn’t kill Scar, that was just rude. After all, if Kara hadn’t set him up the way she did, Cat would never have been the one to make the shot.

All in all a good episode, and it was nice to be back in the BSG world, though I did notice a lack of Baltar and Six in the episode.

Scar fraking rocks. (See signature) One of my all time favorites.

At times, Sharon seems to have trouble remembering she’s a Cylon, and not the Boomer that everyone knew and loved, once upon a time. For that matter, so does Starbuck.

One of the great moments of the show was when Sharron is talking with Kara in the brig, and she accidentally gets too close, and all the marines jump in… such a great moment, especially Kara’s reaction.

It would be a bit hypocritical if she did. “Striking a superior a**hole” ring any bells?

EDIT: Oh yeah, and a common fan theory is that Scar was the reincarnation of the raider Kara used to get off that planet when she got shot down in Season 1.

so the episode we are watching tonight (hey it’s the weekend, we get two episodes in for a seven day period) is “sacrifice” s02e16, as it’s an even numbered episode we are returning to our previous habit of alternating primary comment, this one being me, pernnfan will comment on episode 17 “Captain’s hand” when we watch it.

I’m typing this as she’s currently AFK and we’re twenty minutes in, lee’s trick with the CO2 and the 02 sensor was brilliant but I have to say what a fantastically written episode so far, I was surprised (and I did comment as such) on the fact that starbuck, especially the hard drinking, near tigh level alcoholic starbuck as pictured in the episode “scar” was on R&R and not in the bar.

Also I loved her comment on the question asked by the marine.
“so what’s the plan sir”
“lock and load, we’ll make it up form there” that is so classic starbuck and one of the reasons we love her.

Another lovely exchange between tigh and Adama, “you think it’s sharon, it’s not it’s a frakking cylon”. Tigh is showing a remarkable maturity on this compared with the possible blindness adama is showing.

Now of course we have the way in which starbuck deals with a given situaiton totally frakking up and lee “got hit by friendly fire” kudos to Kara for confessing it to Adama mere minutes after it happens, perhaps she’s reminded of the situation she put herself in following the death of Zack when it finally came out that she had, in effect, killed him.

and then finally we see the actual sacrifice involved, poor, poor doomed billy, it ended the hostage situation, I’d actually forgotten that billy died in this episode, when i said “what happened to billy” at the start of it, I was thinking of a different character in a season 4 episode.

Well I suppose that’s one way of ending the lee/duella/billy love tringle, Kill billy, still it would have been even more tragic if she’d said yes.

So I agree with what was said earlier in the thread, the episodes in this season get better after black market, this ep was so compelling I wanted to not pause to re beverage and just continue watching.
Phaze
on the “yes you heard it, i considered bsg to be preferable to additional beer” ID

My dearest Phaze is completely correct, this was an amazingly written episode.

Interestingly enough, when he made his comment about “what happened to Billy” (though I know he wasn’t actually thinking of what DID happen to Billy), I knew instantly that Billy wasn’t going to survive. Not because Phaze told me he didn’t. In fact, he told me that he was thinking of an event in season 4, so I should have expected the poor kid to live for some time yet. But I didn’t. I knew he was going to die, and i knew it was going to happen soon.

I felt so bad for poor Dualla, both when Billy proposed to her and she had to say no, and then again later when she was faced by the potential death of Lee and the actual death of Billy. Even though she didn’t love him enough to marry him, she did still care about him, and it hurt her to lose him.

(As requested)

I’m editing my post to include the observation that “Sacrifice” made the second episode in a row that is totally devoid of both Six and Baltar.

I didn’t feel bad for Dualla. In fact, I really didn’t like her for a long time after this episode only because of what she did to Billy. He was a great character, and (IMHO) didn’t deserve it, and shouldnt have gone out like that.

Still rips me a new one when Laura is looking down at his body as says “He was so young”. :frowning:

Ah well…again just IMHO

Sadly there will be other gone to.
MADE YA LOOK.:D
I was hoping Billy would turn out to be someone else. That didn’t happen though.

I remember when I first saw this about 8 months ago and I screamed AW NO NOT BILLY…I was actually saddened greatly by all this, I felt bad that he fell hard for Dualla and got screwed by it (can relate to it :stuck_out_tongue: ) …and I always felt Roslin looked at him as the son she never had and it showed in her reaction (I’ve also been re-watching the series at home when I’ve had time and I’m a little bit ahead of you guys so it’s all fresh in my head), it was like once they wrote “Scar” the writers were taking their vitamins again and got back to work!

series 02 episode 17 the captain’s hand

pernfann is not feeling to hot so I’m commenting on this episode in breach of our usual procedure.

so, we have Lee promoted to major hmm interesting

someone stowed away on board a cargo container and requested Doc Connell.

some nice notes here with tom Zerek and Baltar also I’m sure pernnfan is happy to see gaius back

We see that garner is clearly frakking up to a royally screwed up sense, some very nice interactions between lee getting ticked off with Kara, quite possibly becuase he’s now in a relationship (or just f-buddies) with Dualla. One wonders if Billy hadn’t been kiled would Dualla have fallen happily in to Lee’s bunk.
Once againwe see the show for what it really represents, politics, the issue of abortion, the fundamental right of a woman to control her own body, especially when it comes to pregnancy, Laura rescinds that right.

and boom, lee has been arrested while attempting to relieve baker from violating a direct order from adama.

So he redeemed himself in the end, brought himself back by saving the darned ftl drive tht he frakked up in the first place.

nicely touching moment between Lee and Starbuck though and oh holy crap Gaius just totally screwed the president, announced his candidacy while screwing laura over, naaaasty.
Thank you and good night.

on the “liking the auto save facility, enables me to type up these note while the episode runs” ID

Thanks to my messed up self and messed up schedule, I totally forgot to respond to this thread until a few moments ago. Overall not a bad episode, though I don’t remember much detail about it (comes from it being nearly a week since I watched the episode). I do want to mention I was happy to see Gaius and Six back!!!

Okay, so thankfully I took notes on “Downloaded” because we watched it somewhere around a week ago, and I keep forgetting to post about it. But I am remembering now, and typing now. Big grin

So starting off, I just like the way that they reminded you which of the Cylon models had already been revealed in the series so far.

This is, of course, the first real glimpse we get of Cylons being reborn. I have to say, it was oddly fascinating to watch Six be reborn. And my favorite part about Six being reborn? She came complete with a Head Gaius!! You just HAVE to love the idea of a Head Six. It’s a wonderful turn around from the traditional Head Six

Surprisingly enough, this version of Six seems to have a conscience. Since I’m accustomed to seeing Head Six, who seems to find that concept totally foreign, it’s a total shock.

Gaius’ comment “One might almost call it inhuman. Oh that’s right, you are” It’s such a cold statement, but then again, the Head versions tend to be rather harsh

When Gaius is giving Six advice on what to say to Sharon’s reincarnation, it’s a very nice audio effect having Gaius and Six speaking in tandem.

Caprica Six seems extremely effected to discover that the actual Baltar survived the explosion on Caprica from the initial attack.

Has anyone else ever noticed that the Cylons (i.e. artificial life forms) have a deeper belief system than the humans?

“The humans don’t respect life the way we do” - Three. Nice quote. It becomes a beautifully ironic quote when she immediately takes aim at Anders head to kill him.

“See you again soon” was the perfect send off for Six to give Three before bashing her in the head.

Sorry that this isn’t more in depth, but that is what happens when my memory fails to prompt me to post. Goes to curl up and watch tv with her Phaze
