Since Chuck brought this up on the blog, I thought we could take a poll. Yes, Pike, another poll. So - 80’s movies, yes or no?
The only issue I’d have is the constant semi-depression I’d be in as caller after caller, poster after poster, began with :
“I wasn’t even born when this came out, but…”
I am going to moonwalk my black 501s and checkered Vans into the bathroom and have a little cry now.
Carry on.
I have a 55% chance of having been born at the time of release of any movie born in the 80s but I won’t make you feel bad about being an old fart.
Now, are we talking brat pack 80s movies, romantic comedies, sci-fi, action films, or quirky little things like the Goonies? I’m all in no matter what, but it would be good to know what I just voted for.
And I have a 62% chance of having been born when these movies came out. And if you are talking about them from the late '80’s, I may have even seen them near when they came out.
A Goonies episode would be teh awesome. Perhaps we could hit other movies that, unlike Matrix, Star Wars, or Terminator, don’t have sequels (yet). Otherwise, they’d be left out b/c there wouldn’t be an arc.
s’okay sweetie, I’ll keep you company in the over 40 section
So aer we talking about general movies that happened to come out in '80s, generation-defining movies (Breakfast Club, etc.), or specifically SF movies, like Terminator?
The only thing worse would be: “I’ve never seen it, but when he was a kid, my dad really enjoyed…”
Don’t even go there! That’s not even funny!!
All of the above!
Frakking youngsters. Just hush up and buzz out to Netflicks and add some good stuff to your que!
Oh, I might have a good chance of not having been born when a movie was released, but I have a pretty good education in 80s movies. In fact, my favorite kids movie and my favorite romantic comedy are both from the 80s: Land Before Time (the first) and When Harry Met Sally.
Just because I wasn’t necessarily born yet… oh, wait:
Starbuccaneer, as ever, was thinking like me I’ve seen a ton of them. I even saw a bunch when I was a wee lass (like, in the '80s). My parents liked them. And we watched all the movies as a family!
I’m in!!!
I was a teenager when all of these movies came out, and I loved them. Especially Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
I am a product of the 80’s - don’t even get me started on the music - and I am not ashamed to say it!! (so much so that I am going to add it to my signature)
You have no idea how old that suddenly makes me feel.
Maybe if not whole arc, then periodic one-offs in-between arcs? Like after the Terminator, a standalone Weird Science 'cast?
If only 'cuz there are so many good ones, it’d take at least six weeks. It’d be more fun, I think, to periodically revisit. It’d definitely be like saving more fun for later.
And once we’re into non-BSG realms, we’d be one step closer to talking Chuck into finally watching The Godfather.
The 80s are long gone…we should leave them where they are.
oh, I think I have a pretty good idea
Yeah, LD, I felt your pain on that one all the way over here… I’m sure GR really didn’t mean to crush your soul. It just happens.
