#241: Dragonheart, Listener Calls, 2011 Meetup

Ya know, if you are gonna mangle my call, at least beep it out instead of silence. That way people can think I called in with something really filthy.

:p:p:p:p:p

I edited your call none at all, sir. What you heard is what we got.

Excellent cast once again guys. Krod Mandoon rocks! Thanks for playing my call, that was shocking to hear on monday morning, I thought I was still hung over or something.

Same thing happened with my call in this podcast. I blame it on my mobile phone and the reception near the Cincinnati airport. I usally call in via a land line to prevent the fading in and out. Another trick is to listen/review the call before you press the button to send it. I think 1 is to listen to it, 2 is to send it and 3 is to delete it and re-record. If you press 1 after you finish talking you can review it before decided to send it.

Also, if you call in on a mobile phone while driving there is a LOT of background noise.

Finally, if you have the ability to record a mp3 file, you can review it so you sound okay on it and then e-mail it to Chuck. However, I am by far not an expert and I would defer to Chuck and Juan for such tech godliness.

Years ago I was at Disney World in Florida and was very pleasantly surprised with a special Robin Williams performance. There was an attraction in Tomorrowland called “Timekeeper” with Robin Williams continuing his genre acting from Bicentennial Man. Unfortuantely, Disney took down the attraction the last time I was at Disney for something else, but I did find these videos on YouTube:

Hopefully it will convene part of the theater 360 experience that was the Timekeeper. It was one of my favorite rides that I have experienced at Disney.

PS - If one of the moderators wants to edit this post to insert the actual YouTube videos, please do so. Apparently I can’t figure it out tonight.

You know what’s funny, I remember doing that gag and being a little freaked out there would be a backlash or someone might take offense. Lol, back in the day when Chuck and Audra had to coax me into talking… now we can’t go 20 mins without some jackass side-story I feel the need to relate. I prolly need to get better about that.

Here’s a link for those who don’t remember Don Bluth’s Dragon’s Lair.

…and for those who don’t remember Space Ace.

FYI, I think both of these are now also iPhone games!

Yes you do. We need more jackass side-stories.

ahhhh ep 1

Chuck - and with me is Sean
Sean - … hi …

Def need more jackass stories homie

Well barfy-poo. If that happens again feel free to add beeps to jazz it up. I am pretty sure the rest of the call was pretty forgettable since, well, I forgot it.

The timing of playing my better call was perfect though. Sadly, I can not read your minds or I wouldn’t need to download the podcast.

Don’t we have a rambling side-stories thread in the forum somewhere to support Sean’s, well, rambling side-stories?

If we don’t, I’ll start one.

Found it:

Yay for Role Models rec! I didn’t really want to watch it, but it was on and I was curious since it’s more or less about Big Brothers, Big Sisters (which I’ve been volunteering with for almost two years now.) And now I watch it every time it’s on HBO.

How the frak can I remember off the top of my head that Peter Posthelwaite was in Dragonheart but not Dina Meyer? I actually like Starship Troopers in a guilty pleasure way.

Krod Mandoon was a fun show with a great cast. One of the guys in it, who was also Prothero in V for Vendetta, is taking over for Ian McNiece in HBO’s Game of Thrones series.

Hope I can make it to the meetup this year!

That’s interesting cause I like Dina Meyer in a not guilty way

  1. Dragons Lair and Arcades-

I am so old I can remember when vector-graphics games were all the rage, and Battlezone, and Space Duel were king. After payday we would go to the arcade with a roll of quarters in our pockets and spend the evening dueling and trying to beat each others scores. As for laserdisk games I never cared for Dragons Lair or Space Ace, I prefered the Japanese games. They used footage from Anime, one of my favorites was the one that used Lupin the Third footage from such classics as ‘The Castle of Cagliostro’. They even had a flight sim that used Anime footage, not sure how they pulled that off but it was cool. You shot down enemy helicopters over New York city.

  1. Dorkness Rising-

I was begining to think Sean was having a ‘Brain Fart’… But it turned out I misunderstood him during a podcast, I thought he was recommending a movie called DARKness Rising. Darkness Rising was sooo bad I could only watch ten minutes of it, fortunately a few days later a GWCer posted a thank you to Sean for recommending DORKness Rising. AH HAH! I had the wrong movie! I looked it up on Netflix and had a blast, Thank You Sean! It was OSSIM.

  1. Meet up-

I am in a nasty Catch 22 on this… I am still unemployed. Which means I have loads of free time but am dirt frakking poor. If I remain this way the only way I could envision going would be to drive there and literally live out of my SUV while there. And to quote “A street car named desire”… ‘depend upon the kindness of strangers’. Or on the other hand…

If I do find a job, I will have money but will be on the very bottom in terms of seniority, and may not be able to get the time off. It sucks to be me…:frowning:

We’ll see what happens, I am not giving up hope. It ain’t over until the fat boy gets tazed!

Sean: Kurt Russell Arc?! Hell yes! Escape from New York, Escape from LA, The Thing, Soldier, and…Captain Ron (as a plus also stars Goldie Hawn)…

Yeah, a Kurt Arc is totally do-able! He’s proven himself in the genre for sure.

Awesome to hear the news about the 2011 Meetup! Aloft in Plano was a great location and I can only imagine that now that they know us it’ll only be greater! And no Techno DJ in the lobby?! Really?? Promise?? That’d be fantastic. I volunteer here and now as part-time DJ. Everybody feel free to PM me your requests.

Word to the wise: Pack a winter parka just in case.

That one might be a long haul homie. I got no ‘happy feelings’ in the room with that one. However, I have marched longer for material less worthy so I shall now begin the Kurt Russell arc campaign!

165 pages of Stupid wanderings!?!

Do I get the super-duper extra special Geek Card for reading all of that one?

By the way . . . First sheep impression . . . podcast #5.
