This week: We break down Ocean’s 12 like a fraction for ‘ya. We check out one of the Trek verse’s prime douchebags, Captain Jellico. And we run down the week in geek, including the concept of a Fox-free Transformers 3, MTV’s upcoming Teen Wolf remake, Pac Man’s 30th anniversary, and the cancellation of Heroes/re-up of Chuck.
uber SWEET!
So, wrapping up listening to the podcast here, just have to say I really hope you guys manage to get up a bonus commentary podcast about Ocean’s Twelve. It’s not been my favorite of the movies (primarily because I watched it and found out at the end everything I had watched was a trick that took me in), but I am immensely intrigued by having the hints and the drops pointed out in a commentary style. Before you mentioned trying to do a bonus cast, I was totally going to hop on here and suggest that we do a movie night with Twelve at the next meetup or something to get that experience. Hell, I’d still like to sit down with you guys and just watch something to jaw the things out and talk about the film. People hate me for doing that in movies at home, so I’d love to hang with you guys while you did it.
Enjoyed the Jellicho/Asshat douchebag bit. I actually remembered his name (though maybe not how to spell it) from when I watched the series. He’s one of the few non-enterprise or station or voyager captains I can remember from the series. I don’t like him overall, but I have to say one thing in his defense, if he was commanding a warship in the middle of a major war, I think he’d probably be a pretty good commander dealing in conventional warfare in a pure war ship of the line. The Galaxy class, in addition to being the major ships of the Federation, is as much an exploration and cultural contact ship as it is a fleet ship. Also, the Enterprise is a far more broad spectrum ship in terms of its crew, and is unusually able to be non-conventional because of the excellent members it has on its crew.
So I’ll cross my fingers for a bonus cast, and probably be re-watching 12 just to look for things. Then looking forward to 13 and the next cast next week.
I’m Approving the motion for a Bonus cast as well. Kind of when you were doing direct to archive. The Ocean’s movie instead of Iron Man next year could be a great Idea too. This is so cool as a arc.
I can’t wait for the Thomas Crown affair, it’s one of my favorite Brosnan movie!!!
12 was on Bravo this weekend, and the TV edit doesn’t butcher it too badly. 13 is on cable next Sunday, the 30th.
Anyhow, 12 is the most underwhelming of them… on first viewing. But I took the Crew’s word for it and rewatched 12, and it really is an engrossing film. It’s not BigSexyFun like the others, but it’s swell. The first scene is just awesome filmmaking. The DVDs are now on my must-own list.
Once again, I repeat the point that even if you think you know the movie that’s up for discussion this week, it’s always worth watching fresh if you have the time and means. GWC ain’t gonna steer you wrong.
hey all,
Nightfox’s moves in the laser show is based on a real Brazilian dance/martial art called Capoeira, which was brought over by slaves from Angola. And, yes, the moves are authentic. They’re more rooted in the slow Angolan style known as regional Capoeira.
Speaking of which, I know it’s just a wiki or imdb away, does anyone know who’s the Nightfox guy, and what’s his deal? That sequence is amazing. Nice little tip of the hat to Charlie Chaplin at the end.
Also, if you own the DVDs of the Ocean’s movies, what’s the version to get? The Amazon listings are vague about the extras. There’s an Ocean’s trilogy version that runs like $40, but there’s a pack with all three plus the original for like $14.
Vincent Cassel. Been in some of my favorite movies: Le Pacte des Loups, Irreversible, Derailed, Eastern Promises. Dude is a phenomenal actor.
holy crap! The DUDE is married to Monica Bellucci. Come to think of it, he kinda reminds of me her on-screen husband in the Matrix…
yea, he was in Brotherhood of the Wuff.
I vaguely remember him as a baddie playing off Angelina Jolie in some movie… was it Hackers?
So here’s a question. EDIT: We’ve discussed it before. How does everyone rank the Ocean’s flicks in the annals of all-time trilogies?
I tend to exclude Lord of the Rings and Matrix because some of the movies were made back-to-back.
Offhand, before I re-read the thread, I can’t think of another trilogy that puts the ball down and picks it up again as well as the Ocean’s flicks.
I appreciate that Sean and the Crew were able to discuss my question on LeMark and being forced out of his daughter’s life. I truly love my wife adn would do anythign she asked, but I feel that when it comes to my kids, I believe that I would fight tooth and nail to be apart of their lives. Now if it were a life sentence with no chance of ever seing them again like LeMark would probably be in for, then maybe being thought of as dead to a child might be a better cover story than a Master thief. But I imagine that ever if he got pinched by his wife, he woud find a way out of any prison known to man.
Oh no, there’s water in the basement and the pilot light is out!
Gotto Go.
Okay, I’ve seen Ocean’s 11 several times. Great movie. Love the ensemble. It’s a complicated movie somewhat but not too complicated to understand.
I’d never seen Ocean’s 12 until I TiVioed it last week. And I’ve been watching it a little bit over the past couple days (about 3/4 thru so far) …and I, although, I love the style, diaglouge and setting and all that, I am TOTALLY confused about what’s going on. I’m gonna need to see it again before I get anywhere near having a clue.
I know it’s a lot to ask, but I would LOVE it if the Crue did an audio-commentary style podcast explaining the movie as you go (even if Chuck or Sean did it solo). I need that kind of short-cut otherwise I feel like I’m never gonna be able to watch it without scratching my head.
Yikes, Tivo means you’re watching on network TV? If so, try and rent the DVD. You know how important stuff gets cut so the station can advertise the latest Justin Bieber sighting…
And in a complex heist movie a couple of missing scenes can play havoc with the plot!
That being said, LOVE the idea of a commentary-type 'cast once in awhile. Great idea!
The laser field bit did put me off watching this the first time but I found I didn’t mind it this time, a tought I did have really is computers no matter how hard they try arn’t random there will always be a pattern, it’s also funny looking at it with his crazy dance when there are actually large amounts of time when you could run near the walls and encounter none of them.
I did also like the little bit at the end when the cheque is being given to the casino guy and he is being told if you do get robed it won’t be them with the night fox in the background no doubt planning to get his money back.
Will also say that the stock document was from the Dutch East India company the slightly older and bigger competator to the British East India company that was involved with the Tea.
In the trek arc on the subject of the torturer compared to Garrek I would say the clever dangerouse Cardassians tend to be either high up ruleing or dead/exiled because of the danger they pose, quite a cut throat system in Cardassia.
Victoria Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley evidently

cuz there’s LOTS of acting experience there…lots…of…yeah
To be fair, that’s what they said about Tricia Helfer.
Good point indeed
but not sure she’d have much opportunity to do much emoting in a Bay film, like you would in a TV drama.
However, again, good point. We’ll see
i09 interview with Firefly Ariel/Trash writer:

Good point. I’ll should do that. Although, ironically Ocean’s 13 is playing on USA network on May 30. Are the networks now following the GWC arcs?
So last night I watched the last 3rd of Ocean’s 12 (first time).
And I so LOVE the scenes with Tess pretending to be Julia Roberts and the stuff with Bruce Willis. Hysterical!
The scene at the end with Toulour undercover makes me intrigued to see Ocean’s 13.
LOL. I just checked IMDB and it lists
Toulour Woman #1, Toulour Woman #2, Toulour Woman #3, Toulour Woman #4, Toulour Woman #5, Toulour Woman #6, Toulour Woman #7, Toulour Woman #8 and Toulour Woman #9
…all, indeed, different actresses , in case there was any doubt.
Albert Finney was great as LeMarque. Finney is awesome playing a guy with gravitas. Miller’s Crossing with Finney is in my top 10 movies.
^^^ Did you notice the final A-list cast credit is, “And introducing Tess as Julia Roberts”?
Amazon has a four-pack of the trilogy and original Ocean’s 11 for $14. BestBuy.com lists it for $13, also. Not sure what the extras are.
