“Just what do you think you’re doing, Dave?”
I just finished watching this film for the first time…
…attempts translation of thoughts into words…
…I think I’m gonna have to watch that again…
It’s on Netflix instant watch? Yeeeeah Boi!
Not at the moment.
I’m hoping it’ll be back by the time this frak party rolls around.
Got my copy at the local library. Scratched up as all get out, but played perfectly. Also began reading the novel today. Very interesting differences so far.
The novels are odd. IIRC, Clarke actually changed the books to be more like the movies in future editions. There are numerous continuity issues between each book that he explained as each one occurring in its own parallel universe.
Am I the only one here?
I’m watching an Q&A Arthur C. Clarke gave before the premiere of 2001: A Space Odyssey. On par with Carl Sagan, this man is a pioneer filled with wonder and awe for the universe and man’s place in it.
He made me chuckle when he mentioned that the Apollo management committee rescheduled the launch of a Saturn V rocket so they wouldn’t miss the premiere of the film.
He and Kubrick felt they wanted to convey a realistic view of space travel and exploration. They were attempting to show that there is intelligence in the universe and man is just a part, a small part, of a huge universe.
He makes a bold statement about space exploration, “To most people it is regarded as a technological Olympics.” He then says, “This is a good thing because you often run faster when racing someone then if you aren’t.”
So far. By tradition, rewatches begin promptly at 15 minutes after the stated start time.
Sorry, I am a noob at this…:o
ACC finishes by saying that we shouldn’t forget about the problems on our world but some of those problems could possibly be solved by space exploration. Interesting.
Alrighty. My DVD starts with an Overture. I think we should skip that and at :15 start with the opening credits, whaddya say?
Dun…Dun…DUUUUNNNNN…DUN DUN!!!
What an amazing beginning!!
Love the Mel Brooks spoof in ‘History of the World, Part 1’.
Not a problem.
Starting at the MGM lion then?
Did they ever explain why they changed the alien artifact from a pyramid (in the original short story ‘The Sentinel’) to a monolith?
The Dawn of Man
Beautifully shot. Basically, that could be said about this whole film. Let me just get it out of the way.
According to the book, this is the desolate world after a ten million year drought that killed off the Dinosaurs.
Forgot how long this musical opening was…
Yep. That’s the one.
Yeah. That’s why I skipped it. It’s only about 3 minutes.
Whoever went to college for Monkey Makeup really made a killing in 1968.
Planet of the Apes was released in the same year.
